I dont know the exact dosage they give me post op as I have always had the black box and it gives it automatically and gets set up or down by post op nurse. I do know the dosage I have used at home iv as well as oral ir and I am to embarrased to say it. I cannot believe I am alive considering what you say is the normal dosage. It tells me I am very lucky.

They have more info on dosage now so it is probably more safe now than when you were born. Also through the IV it will help relieve pain in your whole body( but won't take pain away) so they probably won't let you walk around. I will be getting Demerol when I can't take the pain anymore because I want to walk around.

They put the IV in my hand in the morning. By the evening of the same day when they gave me morphine in the IV it was excruciating. So much aching and actual pain which I found ironic as it was introduced to get rid of pain not to give more pain. This continued until the next morning (I had injections of morphine every two hours).

I am only allowed to take 4 Tylenol daily - no aspirin or Advil. I can have morphine should I want it, but no aspirin.

Reading your post, it seems you are on alot of medication. Beacuse you have a tolerance the medication amounts will be different and you'll want to make sure you are very clear with the anestesiologist as to how much of what and how often you take something.

Thankfully my throat didn't actually close, though having that feeling is one I'll never forget. I went to the ER with a severe headache, which involved near fainting and confusion. I can see being given Morphine, but what reason would I be given an IV mix of Morphine and Benadryl? Thank you.

About 1 month ago my pain management doctor increased my dosage of morphine sulfate from 10 gm to 30 mg (1 every 12 hours). Shortly after I began taking the 30mg morphine sulfate, I started to develop a slight rash. Over the last week, the rash has become much worse and a real problem. I've been taking over the counter benadryl tabs to get some relief from the rash which is helping a little to relief the itching and rash.

The 50 patch is more in line with your previous 60 morphine sulfate, plus some break through meds, dosage. The problem most have with the patches is that they do not last three days, only two for most people. See if your insurance company and doctor will allow you to do a 2 day dosage, vs the std 3 day.

Hello. Can morphine cause a person to have shiver like symptoms when their dosage is wearing off? Can morphine also cause a person to feel warmer or hot and sweaty then go to feeling cold like or shiver like when u need another dosage or is this a drug addiction or all three situations? In the hospital I had hallucinating dreams and insomnia -- also at the same time had 4 does of anthesia, plus IV pain drugs, then morphine, then percocet. My NEW APRN psych person says I didn't have anywithdrawal. Did I? I think I did.

I know in my case, that as soon as the Morphine was injected through my IV I felt chest pressure. Any thoughts on this? Should I refuse this if it comes up again?

The morphine is actually much less problematic than the oxycodone. You should be comfortable taking the morphine and not the oxy.................

what would happen if someone took (about) 20 ml of morphine sulfate(concentrated), which is 20 mg per ml? I got some m.s. from someone, and never asked how much was "safe", though, i do realize taking it at all is unsafe unless directed by a doctor. i took this amount yesterday, within a 2 hr period. lastnight i vomitted a lot, was too scared to go to the hospital (another stupid move i know) if i feel good, should i still go to the hospital?

the other 2 are potent long lasting meds/morphine...not as highkly abused as oxy or hydrocodone..but very addicting..the energy buzz or euphoria isnt there for many from these drugs orally so they are abused by IV use to get high....if u simply have to have something daily for pain then i would stay away from the oxy if u have a problem with hydro...talk to ur doctor...be safe and check out the pain forum..

I went to the drs today and explained that the oxy 15s I was prescribed were not working as well as the 10/325s I was on so my dr. gives me morphine 30 mgs I have taken a few they dont seem very strong either. I was told I was not allowed to switch for a while. I will have to just make them work. will they start working better in a while or am I just stuck on then?

t do much for you, then you may need a really high dose of oral Morphine to really help your pain as Morphine is very potent via IV but the bioavailability orally is about 25-30%, which is a fraction of the dosage listed on the bottle. Oxycontin is 1.5 to 2 times stronger than morphine and I know the Percocet I take is doing 70% of the work while the morphine is doing 30%.

My mother who has cronic back and shoulder pain is being taken off of fentanyl 100mcg patch and 7.5/500mg and being put on morphine 60mg 2x daily and then morphine sulfate 15mg every 4 hours for breakthough pain. What I'm wondering is there going to be withdrawl or is the morphine going to have enough of the same stuff in it. If not what kind of withdrawl systems will there be to watch for.

They're not going to give you morphine in the hospital!!! If you go to an inpatient detox, they'll give you things to help ease withdrawals and they'll monitor your blood pressure and make sure you're hydrated, but no one is going to give you IV narcotics or narcotics in pill form. It doesn't solve the problem. You need to decide what you're going to do and make a plan. YOu can go inpatient to detox; you can go CT at home, or you can taper at home.

I would really like to know if anyone has taken morphine in pregnancy and upon giving birth if their baby had with drawls or not AND what dosage PLEASE! I have heard a few moms say they were taking Oxycontin 40mg three times a day with no baby withdrawals, but did not know if morphine was the same. I do go to a pain management place, I am in severe pain, I do not need lecturing, there are times I think about just ending it all just to stop the pain.
