14631020 tn?1436545476 So far, nuthin' from the modafinil. But I'm on a low dose. I'm to try it for a month, then double it if it didn't do anything. Guess I'm doing that! I'm really not keen to use anything that's stronger. We all have our risk v. benefit sweet spots, and anything that's speed with an addictive component is just not tempting me so much at present. (could change!) I know our Kyle recently cut out caffeine with great results, but me at present I drink coffee. A lot.
667078 tn?1316000935 Rather than try something like Adderall or Ritalin my physiatrist has me trying Fampyra (Ampyra in the U.S.). It is for mobility issues but off label can help with a lot of MS symptoms including fatigue. Like most MS drugs it works for less than half.
14631020 tn?1436545476 Over two years I have been on amantidine, modafinil and now ritalin 10 mg x 3 a day. I can stil sleep on the ritalin and am shocked by that. Obviously I had to try everything else first due to risk. My specialist said that usuallt when people legitimally need the medecicine they usually don't abuse it. I haven't found any problems with it.
Avatar m tn For the past 30 years (I'm 53), my doctor had been treating me for "excessive daytime sleepiness" that was so bad that it was ruining my life; after a 2 night sleep/daytime nap study at a major university, the results were still "disorder or excessive sleepiness" or "similar to sleep-attack narcolepsy, but not REM-onset". No drug other than the stimulant ritalin helped, so I took that for almost 30 years and all was well.
5509293 tn?1428531475 Nuvigil, alerted, modafinil, Provigil are the same -as far as I understand. I am paying more than you - I have high deductible insurance but took the hit because I needed a replacement for amantadine to help with fatigue. Thought I was ok until the amantadine worked its way out of my system and then I crashed. But new drug is giving me BP problems. Is anyone taking the drug with NO BP problems? How much can you take?
Avatar m tn I am currently being treated for CFS with a medication called Modafinil. It’s the one medication that’s a stimulant, that’s not in the same class as Adderall or Ritalin with a very low abuse potential. It helps out a lot, but I feel while it is helping it does damage as well considering you get used to the medication and the CFS is 100 times worse then when it started. My question is this : What medical procedures are done to rule out it being an underlying medical condition ?
Avatar m tn Ive gained quite a bit of weight, and thats basically ruined my life. I just started treatment about a week ago. I would take Ritalin LA first thing after breakfast, and then 3 more short acting 10ml doses throughout the day "as needed". The first 3 or so days were amazing, I felt motivated, awake, and alert, and most of all, it helped suppress my hunger, and I already felt like I was on the right path to losing weight, and eating smaller, healthier portions. No side effects!
572651 tn?1530999357 It was me with whom the doctor was going to order the sleep study; however, I haven't seen my neuro, yet. I've talked to his nurse numerous times, and the sleep study thing dropped from the discussion. Since most of the time we play phone tag, I don't know the reason why. He ordered Ritalin and even sent his order through certified overnight mail, so I filled the prescription and started it the next day. I will see him Monday, so I will find out about the sleep study thing.
Avatar f tn Medications initiated for narcolepsy are central nervous system stimulants like modafinil (Provigil) or armodafinil (Nuvigil). As the side effects and addiction potential is less. Some people need treatment with methylphenidate (Concerta, Ritalin, others) or various amphetamines. These medications are very effective but may sometimes cause side effects such as nervousness and heart palpitations and can be addictive.
Avatar f tn I actually just saw my neurologist yesterday and was finally put on ritalin. I have only taken two pills but they seem to work. Sincce it is an abused drug we had to try everything else first. I was on amantidine, modafinil, fampriya(which is usually for walking but has shown to help some people with fatigue), aand finally ritalin. It has taken about two years to get to this point.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Buy choline, start eating magnesium,L-tyrosine, D-vitamins (double the dosage), Methylcobalamin 5000mcg a day, talk to your doc and ask him to prescribe ritalin (will probably aid your sleep). Melatonin will aid your sleep if you have issues falling asleep. You probably also have issues in you nostrals, then a cpap wont help without proper medication. Then you will need this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mometasone_furoate If this regime fails then modafinil will assist you also.
Avatar f tn It is working. The next step would be modafinil but I was told that many of their patients use Ritalin or adderall. Both are addictive so they start with the ones with least side effects first. So far amantadine has been helping get me through my day without crashing. Might be worth asking about it.
968560 tn?1307451498 like GSDgirl, I looked it up, and it’s labeled for weight loss. Have you discussed the use of Provigil (modafinil) yet? This stuff is FDA labeled for fatigue (think fighter pilots :o)), and is supposed to be non-addictive.
Avatar f tn I have been put on Modafinil for my sleeping issues and it makes my birth control less effective according to my neurologist and pharmacist. Is there any way I can find out how MUCH less? Am I even protected at all? I have been on the pill for 10 years and after hearing this, I immediately called my gynecologist to discuss other options. She told me that the oral pill would metabolize through the liver much faster on Modafinil and so she put me on the Nuvaring.
Avatar n tn any advice or experiences that could help me understand would be really helpful please. My brother has started university to study architecture this year and due to the huge amount of nights he had to work, started going on modafinil. Now that the year is finished and he's not taking it however, he has become aggressive, irrational and rude. Does anyone know if this is because of the modafinil or if there's a link.
7126533 tn?1388405470 I recently started taking Modafinil for fatigue and apart from the fatigue being much improved, the incontinence has also vastly improved - fingers crossed it has actually stopped. Is this coincidence or can the Modafinil have caused this?
Avatar n tn I have been taking 100 grams of modafinil pills for about 2 weeks to get through exams and now that I have stopped taking anything, I am experiencing constant dizziness. I am wondering whether I should wait this out or whether I need to see a doctor asap....
Avatar f tn Can you please tell me if taking 300mg Adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) once or twice a week, to help me study. will decrease the effectivenes of birth control pills? I'm taking Levlen 1.5/30mg I know that a long term Modafinil use makes birth control pills less effective but how about short term? PLEASE ADVISE, Thank you!
Avatar f tn It can interfere in your daily routine with mental cloudiness, a feeling of no energy, concentration, depressed mood and/or extreme exhaustion. Modafinil can be tried. Lifestyle changes like avoiding caffeine, alcohol, smoking and heavy meals. A healthy sleeping habit, scheduling daytime naps (around 30-60 minutes in length), and normal regular exercise and meal schedule may also be of some help. You can always consult another doctor if not satisfied with one who is attending.
Avatar f tn Can anyone please tell me if adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) will affect taking birth-control pills? In other words, if I occasionally take adrafinil to help me study - will it make the pills ineffective. I certainly don't want to get pregnant. I know that long term use of Modafinil decreases the effectivenes of bc pills but how about short term use? Once or twice a week? Thank you!
Avatar m tn Hi. I need some help figuring out how Modafinil works. I basically have something which seems like Insomnia but it isn't. I believe I suffer from Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. I have had it since I was 15, I am 25 now. The problem is that, I can't maintain a proper schedule. I can never sleep at a particular time everyday. It keeps moving as every day passes by. For example, right now I am sleeping at around 9 AM everyday and then I am getting up at around 5 PM.
Avatar f tn If you want to give Provigil a try, go to their website, and you can download or call them and have them send you a coupon for a week's free trial. Have your doctor write it for 200 mg. and start by cutting them in half. I tried it that way, and it made such a difference in my life that I bought myself a prescription of it for Christmas; it was only (only, ha!) $306 at my pharmacy, so you might be able to find it for less than your first attempt.
Avatar m tn Not good. You definitely want to look for a specialist. Might want to scope out your throat to see if there are also problems down there. Under side effects for Nuvigil it says, "Skin and mouth sores, blistering, and ulceration have been reported with modafinil and NUVIGIL in the postmarketing setting. Recurrence of signs and symptoms of serious dermatologic reactions following rechallenge has been reported in some cases.
Avatar f tn Hi. Concerta is the same drug as Ritalin, I believe, and could well be the cause of your wakefulness and loss of appetite. I take Adderall, a similar drug, to cope with fatigue, and it does dampen my hunger, for sure. It's a good consequence for me, if unintended. I take 20mg of the extended release type each morning, and can feel it wearing off by mid-afternoon. It doesn't affect my sleep. It's possible your dosage is too high, so a consultation with your doctor is order.
5160872 tn?1385248794 I am switching from Avonex to Tecifidera and from Modafinil to Symmetrel. How has these worked out for others? I am looking forward to not having the injections and being able to take pills instead.
