5160872 tn?1385248794 I use modafinil (200mg in the morning) for MS related fatigue and it works wonders for me. I take it as early as I can in the morning and without it I am not sure I would be able to continue to work full time. When using it I feel more alert, sharper and definitely less fatigued. However the one thing I have noticed is that my appetite completely diminishes.
7126533 tn?1388405470 Thanks for the tips - Because the incontinence problem has been becoming increasingly worse, I have been in touch with the MS nurse who has arranged for bladder function tests to be carried out in a couple of weeks so I'll find out then how well I'm emptying. As I have limited feeling in the bladder bowel areas I know that I am often unaware of the need to go (trying to be polite here) which can lead to incontinence. My probs actually began to deteriorate when I took up running.
667078 tn?1316000935 Hi Alex, I am sorry you are feeling so fatigued. It's rotten. Here is my experience. The modafinil not only works, but it's a complete lifesaver for me. I would be in big trouble without it. I started out on 200mg. This was a disaster for me. I am small, and I think the dose was too much. It made me feel as if I was on a train that wouldn't stop and it gave me heart palpitations. This freaked me out and I stopped immediately. Neuro recommended trying 100mg.
Avatar f tn I have been fighting for twenty plus years to find out what was wrong - Called a hypochondriac by doctors and family. Told I have bipolar and - seriously - while I was laughing and joking around told that I was depressed and it was causing my symptoms. At that point I told dr. to give me shock therapy or a lobotomy then. I will do whatever it takes not to be this sick/pain/fatigued. I have/am suffered a cornucopia of symptoms. Fatigue being the worse of them all.
14631020 tn?1436545476 I am a newly diagnosed MS patient. I have multiple lesions in my brain. I didn't present to the doctor with 'typical' MS symptoms (but as you guys already know, there is no such thing) I haven't had any real numbness. My biggest complaint was bone crushing fatigue, which I still deal with and am trying to work full time as an xray tech.
738075 tn?1330575844 Modafinil just wasn't cutting it. I've switched to Amantidine, and lucky for me, no nasty side effects. Still, my fatigue is kicking my @$$! I'm good 'til about 2 pm, but pretty useless for the rest of the day. Any other Amantidine users out there? What are your experiences?
1140169 tn?1370185076 Hmmm, 2 at once? In the morning or afternoon? If my fatigue hits late in the afternoon is it too late in the day to take it?

Avatar f tn s breakdown of estrogen, a major component in many hormonal contraceptives, resulting in reduced hormone levels in the body. This may raise the likelihood of unwanted pregnancy. If you are using hormonal birth control while taking modafinil, you must take supplemental contraceptives such as condoms to assure protection.
Avatar n tn any advice or experiences that could help me understand would be really helpful please. My brother has started university to study architecture this year and due to the huge amount of nights he had to work, started going on modafinil. Now that the year is finished and he's not taking it however, he has become aggressive, irrational and rude. Does anyone know if this is because of the modafinil or if there's a link.

Avatar f tn Modafinil is a drug for narcolepsy prescribed for MS fatigue. I am interested in knowing if you have narcolepsy or MS fatigue. Recently I have been experiencing extreme fatigue for which my neuro prescribed amantadine. It is working. The next step would be modafinil but I was told that many of their patients use Ritalin or adderall. Both are addictive so they start with the ones with least side effects first. So far amantadine has been helping get me through my day without crashing.
572651 tn?1530999357 Raz is right. Modafinil is still classified as a non-narcotic schedule IV drug in the US. Non-prescription importation by individual citizens is prohibited. I know people in the US order drugs and cigarettes from outside the country to save money, get meds their insurance denies and avoid high taxes. I don't blame them a bit but doubt their sources are overly secure or long lived. I do wonder what the custom tag content list says is inside. The government sets the regulations.
Avatar n tn I have been taking 100 grams of modafinil pills for about 2 weeks to get through exams and now that I have stopped taking anything, I am experiencing constant dizziness. I am wondering whether I should wait this out or whether I need to see a doctor asap....
5160872 tn?1385248794 Hi All, I read more than I post... I have been really busy with work and my kids bball games. Anyway... for those of you who don't "know" me I have been diagnosed with MS. I just did my 8th avonex shot last wk... Everything is going pretty good with the shots. The only side effects I have is muscle aches and of course my enemy tiredness... I had blood work done last week and was asked to come back for the results. The nurse said he (Dr.
Avatar f tn Can you please tell me if taking 300mg Adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) once or twice a week, to help me study. will decrease the effectivenes of birth control pills? I'm taking Levlen 1.5/30mg I know that a long term Modafinil use makes birth control pills less effective but how about short term? PLEASE ADVISE, Thank you!
Avatar f tn Can anyone please tell me if adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) will affect taking birth-control pills? In other words, if I occasionally take adrafinil to help me study - will it make the pills ineffective. I certainly don't want to get pregnant. I know that long term use of Modafinil decreases the effectivenes of bc pills but how about short term use? Once or twice a week? Thank you!
Avatar f tn The way you look at energy (MS fatigue) is like money in the bank. Once it is spent it is gone. What you need to figure out is what is most important to do. Like do your most active stuff first thing in the morning. You normally run out of gas. You are going a long and all sudden you crash. It is hard for others to understand.
14631020 tn?1436545476 ve been tested for that stuff before MS. My fatigue was explored in depth before I finally got a brain MRI that got me in trouble. LOL He also has me on Tramadol for sleep, just be sure I am sleeping well I suppose. I hope your physiatrist is able to help you feel better. Thanks for the reply:) Good luck to you too!
Avatar m tn There are no factors, including duration of therapy, that are known to predict the risk of occurrence or the severity of rash associated with modafinil or NUVIGIL. In cases where the time to onset was reported, serious rash occurred 1 day to 2 months after initiation of treatment, but isolated cases of serious dermatologic reactions have been reported with symptoms beginning after prolonged treatment (e.g., 3 months).
1323173 tn?1277137703 Hi Vic, I have MS also! I was dx'd with rrms in 1997 at the age of 27. Since then, I have had several relapses which have varied from optic neuritis to paresthesia to muscle weakness. In my many MRI'S, I have had mostly lesions on my spine, however I have had two lesions on my brain as of the last several MRI's. The problem is that even though my neurologist says that it is rrms, I believe that it's prms.
5509293 tn?1428531475 Has anyone using provigil in 200mg doses had problems with either elevated blood pressure or blood pressure spikes?
Avatar f tn I feel kind of silly posting this because I thought this was a scenario I was prepared to handle but it came about in an unexpected way and my brain is stuck. After a very long hiatus, I resumed being an active single and started dating again. I figured that if I met someone I liked and got involved that it would be a gradual road to disclosing my MS if things got serious. I was prepared and feeling confident.
Avatar f tn I dont know if this is accurate or not, but I thought it should be shared. I just read this in the "Health" Section of Foxnews.com I have heard a lot of really good things about Provigil, although I've never used it. It was recommended to me many times though. Just some food for thought. Seems EVERYTHING comes with its own set of dangers attached.
Avatar f tn Mine is pretty much constant, rapidly worsens with moderate exercise & chores and/or body temp elevation. At those times it's like i can feel it washing over me and weighing me down. But yes, day to day, those factors notwithstanding, I usually feel dragged out and low energy. I'm on 4 regular meds already and not interested in adding more to the mix if I can help it. Have played with those meds and they don't appear to be contributing to my fatigue level.
5160872 tn?1385248794 I started Modafinil last December but I honestly cannot say for sure if it works. I still get tired but it does not seem as bad as before I started it. Some days I don't take it at all and seem fine, other days I don't take it I am exhausted. I switched about 3 months ago from Rebif to Tec. Like Lori, I had to go back and start more slowly due to severe GI issues. I have been back on the full dose about 3 weeks and it is a lot better than before.
