5160872 tn?1385248794 I use modafinil (200mg in the morning) for MS related fatigue and it works wonders for me. I take it as early as I can in the morning and without it I am not sure I would be able to continue to work full time. When using it I feel more alert, sharper and definitely less fatigued. However the one thing I have noticed is that my appetite completely diminishes.
572651 tn?1530999357 I don't have MS but I have had experience with real Provigil and fake Provigil BCBS won't cover Provigil, even with dramatic results of a sleep study and literally my going to sleep at the wheel.Even with excessive caffeine I never woke up and most of my days were spent napping. The authentic Provigil samples from the Doctor and the Modafinil, manufactured in Canada, sold at Walmart in US (BUT THE PILLS ARE STAMPED PROVIGIL) are not the same.
7126533 tn?1388405470 I have suffered MS related bladder incontinence for over a year. I recently started taking Modafinil for fatigue and apart from the fatigue being much improved, the incontinence has also vastly improved - fingers crossed it has actually stopped. Is this coincidence or can the Modafinil have caused this?
667078 tn?1316000935 I know Modafinil is used for Narcolepsy but they really want a sleep study to take it for MS? That seems unfair to slow the process down when it is such a common medication for MS and not just those with sleep disorders.
14631020 tn?1436545476 I did get a little foot swelling, and eventually asked for a change since I had vein patterns appear while on the drug. I got a prescription for modafinil, and was told to start at 200mg. I thought it was amazing but at my regular annual checkup the gp was concerned about BP. I took the does down to 100mg and still felt as if it was affecting BP. I am not taking it right now because I can more or less handle what I'm doing now, and I have more time to plan out the day and sleep if needed.
738075 tn?1330575844 Modafinil just wasn't cutting it. I've switched to Amantidine, and lucky for me, no nasty side effects. Still, my fatigue is kicking my @$$! I'm good 'til about 2 pm, but pretty useless for the rest of the day. Any other Amantidine users out there? What are your experiences?
Avatar f tn Can anybody tell about a website that I can trust, where I can buy Provigil(modafinil)for less?.I dont have medical insurance and I cant afford to.pay for it at regular price.I suffer from MS and I have chronic fatigue at all times.please,Anybody know about this.
Avatar f tn I have been put on Modafinil for my sleeping issues and it makes my birth control less effective according to my neurologist and pharmacist. Is there any way I can find out how MUCH less? Am I even protected at all? I have been on the pill for 10 years and after hearing this, I immediately called my gynecologist to discuss other options. She told me that the oral pill would metabolize through the liver much faster on Modafinil and so she put me on the Nuvaring.
Avatar n tn The precise mode of action for Modafinil is not yet known. Modafinil is a complex drug which appears to act on a large number of neurochemical pathways. It has only been approved for sleep/ wake disorders such as narcolepsy and although there is plenty of anecdotal evidence of use by students, it has never been studied for use in the general population.

Avatar f tn Modafinil is a drug for narcolepsy prescribed for MS fatigue. I am interested in knowing if you have narcolepsy or MS fatigue. Recently I have been experiencing extreme fatigue for which my neuro prescribed amantadine. It is working. The next step would be modafinil but I was told that many of their patients use Ritalin or adderall. Both are addictive so they start with the ones with least side effects first. So far amantadine has been helping get me through my day without crashing.
Avatar n tn This can produce euphoria, it can be abused for a high sensation particularly by students as stimulants for staying up all night for exams. There are certain common side effects associated with its use like headache, dizziness, difficulty in falling asleep, drowsiness, nausea, heartburn, confusion and burning, tingling and numbness of skin. There could be certain withdrawal symptoms associated with it. Dizziness could be part of this sudden stopping of the drug.
19327666 tn?1475833305 Hi and welcome. It's been so slow around here lately, sorry no has answered yet. Your post made me sad yet I related to it. You are trying anything to feel better, including (and I had to look it up) taking an off label drug. Like all addicts who aren't in recovery, you substituted one drug for another. In your case opiates for alcohol. What you are going thru right now is withdrawl. There is NOTHING that will fix it or hurry it up except time.
1710955 tn?1309446473 Antidepressants are sometimes a necessary and helpful therapy for treating MS symptoms. They also tend to complicate other drug therapies because they have a high incidence of adverse interactions with other pharmaceuticals - very high. Beta blockers are nearly as famous for risk of undesirable interactions but far fewer of them are classed as major. You’ll definitely need to talk this over with a physician.
Avatar f tn Can you please tell me if taking 300mg Adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) once or twice a week, to help me study. will decrease the effectivenes of birth control pills? I'm taking Levlen 1.5/30mg I know that a long term Modafinil use makes birth control pills less effective but how about short term? PLEASE ADVISE, Thank you!
5160872 tn?1385248794 Hi All, I read more than I post... I have been really busy with work and my kids bball games. Anyway... for those of you who don't "know" me I have been diagnosed with MS. I just did my 8th avonex shot last wk... Everything is going pretty good with the shots. The only side effects I have is muscle aches and of course my enemy tiredness... I had blood work done last week and was asked to come back for the results. The nurse said he (Dr.
Avatar m tn Thank you very sincerely for responding. I am extremely busy at the moment, so I am only given a quick response, with I will write a more detail one as soon as is possible. I just want to say that I am planning on reducing the dosage significantly, to reduce the potential for harm. I have noticed, and it seems to be a an atypical feature of Modafinil, that tolerance rapidly reduce. Three days, massively (but not entirely) reduces tolerance, and it seems to last for a useful amount of time.
Avatar m tn Hi. I need some help figuring out how Modafinil works. I basically have something which seems like Insomnia but it isn't. I believe I suffer from Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. I have had it since I was 15, I am 25 now. The problem is that, I can't maintain a proper schedule. I can never sleep at a particular time everyday. It keeps moving as every day passes by. For example, right now I am sleeping at around 9 AM everyday and then I am getting up at around 5 PM.
Avatar f tn I was on amantidine, modafinil, fampriya(which is usually for walking but has shown to help some people with fatigue), aand finally ritalin. It has taken about two years to get to this point.
14631020 tn?1436545476 ve personally opted for the less effective and less addictive modafinil. Do I yearn for something more along the lines of adderall or ritilin some days? Heck yea. But I had a less-than-fun experience coming off an unrelated prescription last year and it's a once bitten twice shy situation.
5509293 tn?1428531475 Hi Joie, I took Modafinil for over a year. 200 mg a day but as far as I know I did not have any bp issues but no none checked so I can't say for certain that I didn't.
Avatar m tn I took a high dose of Nuvigil for 7 days after taking Adderrall for year. In those 7 days I got sores on the side and tip of my tongue. I feel like I always have phlegm in my throat and am always clearing my throat. I now have a sore throat and I feel like I have swollen glands. Dr.'s have no idea what it is. Going on for a month now even after I stopped Nuvigil 3 weeks ago. Anyone with any thoughts or help??
1323173 tn?1277137703 t believe in saying the words progressive MS, because of the insurance companies, since they tend not to want to pay for the disease modifying drugs for MS, if it is a progressive form of MS. Even if I ask him directly, he says "shh, I don't use those terms around here"! What parameters did they use to make your dx for the prms?
Avatar f tn Can anyone please tell me if adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) will affect taking birth-control pills? In other words, if I occasionally take adrafinil to help me study - will it make the pills ineffective. I certainly don't want to get pregnant. I know that long term use of Modafinil decreases the effectivenes of bc pills but how about short term use? Once or twice a week? Thank you!
968560 tn?1307451498 like GSDgirl, I looked it up, and it’s labeled for weight loss. Have you discussed the use of Provigil (modafinil) yet? This stuff is FDA labeled for fatigue (think fighter pilots :o)), and is supposed to be non-addictive.
