Avatar n tn any advice or experiences that could help me understand would be really helpful please. My brother has started university to study architecture this year and due to the huge amount of nights he had to work, started going on modafinil. Now that the year is finished and he's not taking it however, he has become aggressive, irrational and rude. Does anyone know if this is because of the modafinil or if there's a link.
Avatar n tn This can maybe only happen in heavy doses (above 350mg) because the drug is a weak D2 agonist and re uptake inhibitor and using at heavy doses has to many side effects and let to mention its very expensive to abuse this drug. Some experience anti depressant effects when they take there first few doses- but it goes away and never comes back. Its not labeled as a stimulant - but father a wakefulness promoting agent. And truly bad withdraw only appears with chronic high doses.
7126533 tn?1388405470 I recently started taking Modafinil for fatigue and apart from the fatigue being much improved, the incontinence has also vastly improved - fingers crossed it has actually stopped. Is this coincidence or can the Modafinil have caused this?
Avatar f tn The men in the study were 23 to 46 years old. They received either a dummy pill or modafinil. Effects were measured by PET scans, which showed that the drug increased dopamine, the brain's "feel-good" neurotransmitters. Modafinil once was thought to be safer than conventional stimulants because it was believed that it did not engage the brain's dopamine system, which is linked with addiction. Studies in mice and monkeys suggested otherwise.
5509293 tn?1428531475 Hi Corrie, That's interesting. I'm finding the positive effects great so far if I can just manage the negative ones by dose. It's much better than amantadine which worked for me but I often forgot to take second midday dose. I was told if the BP issues don't settle with smaller dose then neuro can prescribe something else but I think that something else might be Ritalin or something similar. Maybe your neuro doesn't prescribe that.
Avatar m tn Might want to scope out your throat to see if there are also problems down there. Under side effects for Nuvigil it says, "Skin and mouth sores, blistering, and ulceration have been reported with modafinil and NUVIGIL in the postmarketing setting. Recurrence of signs and symptoms of serious dermatologic reactions following rechallenge has been reported in some cases.
1203197 tn?1265555829 Hello there, first off all getting off seroquel is a good thing. Now speaking of Modafinil (Provigil) well i suggest it to you because it doesn't have any badside effects at all but the little side effects when you start or the ones of drinking coffee and even then i didn't notice anything stronger than coffee with Modafinil (Alertec here in Canada). I take it as a cognitive enhancer.
5160872 tn?1385248794 I am switching from Avonex to Tecifidera and from Modafinil to Symmetrel. How has these worked out for others? I am looking forward to not having the injections and being able to take pills instead.
738075 tn?1330575844 Modafinil just wasn't cutting it. I've switched to Amantidine, and lucky for me, no nasty side effects. Still, my fatigue is kicking my @$$! I'm good 'til about 2 pm, but pretty useless for the rest of the day. Any other Amantidine users out there? What are your experiences?
Avatar f tn I have been put on Modafinil for my sleeping issues and it makes my birth control less effective according to my neurologist and pharmacist. Is there any way I can find out how MUCH less? Am I even protected at all? I have been on the pill for 10 years and after hearing this, I immediately called my gynecologist to discuss other options. She told me that the oral pill would metabolize through the liver much faster on Modafinil and so she put me on the Nuvaring.
14631020 tn?1436545476 I've just started taking modafinil, 100mg per day for a month then I can titrate to 200mg if needed. It will be needed! 100mg, to be honest, is making no difference whatsoever. Sometimes I literally have to look at my pill caddy to see if I've even taken it that day. Otherwise, I just OD on caffeine and go to bed at around 8. Hoping more people answer, because I could use a few ideas too!
Avatar f tn My question - after ranting (sorry)- has anyone here tried modafinil? If so - how much of a dose helps you? Any side effects? Or is there anything easier to get dr. to prescribe? Thank you for listening. But I do feel there is help on the horizon - finally after being sick without diagnosis - yes- It stinks it is MS but I am (crazy) feeling blessed they found something.
667078 tn?1316000935 Hi Alex, I am sorry you are feeling so fatigued. It's rotten. Here is my experience. The modafinil not only works, but it's a complete lifesaver for me. I would be in big trouble without it. I started out on 200mg. This was a disaster for me. I am small, and I think the dose was too much. It made me feel as if I was on a train that wouldn't stop and it gave me heart palpitations. This freaked me out and I stopped immediately. Neuro recommended trying 100mg.
Avatar f tn Can you please tell me if taking 300mg Adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) once or twice a week, to help me study. will decrease the effectivenes of birth control pills? I'm taking Levlen 1.5/30mg I know that a long term Modafinil use makes birth control pills less effective but how about short term? PLEASE ADVISE, Thank you!
Avatar f tn Medications initiated for narcolepsy are central nervous system stimulants like modafinil (Provigil) or armodafinil (Nuvigil). As the side effects and addiction potential is less. Some people need treatment with methylphenidate (Concerta, Ritalin, others) or various amphetamines. These medications are very effective but may sometimes cause side effects such as nervousness and heart palpitations and can be addictive.
Avatar m tn The first 3 or so days were amazing, I felt motivated, awake, and alert, and most of all, it helped suppress my hunger, and I already felt like I was on the right path to losing weight, and eating smaller, healthier portions. No side effects! Then on the 4th day, about an hour and a half after my first short acting dose, I start to feel some chest pain, not exactly sure how to explain it because Ive never felt something like it before.
Avatar f tn Can anyone please tell me if adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) will affect taking birth-control pills? In other words, if I occasionally take adrafinil to help me study - will it make the pills ineffective. I certainly don't want to get pregnant. I know that long term use of Modafinil decreases the effectivenes of bc pills but how about short term use? Once or twice a week? Thank you!
Avatar m tn Hi. I need some help figuring out how Modafinil works. I basically have something which seems like Insomnia but it isn't. I believe I suffer from Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. I have had it since I was 15, I am 25 now. The problem is that, I can't maintain a proper schedule. I can never sleep at a particular time everyday. It keeps moving as every day passes by. For example, right now I am sleeping at around 9 AM everyday and then I am getting up at around 5 PM.
Avatar m tn Hello there, Nootropic drugs like Piracetam or analeptic drug such as Modafinil could help you with this problem. A diet including Omega-3 is also to be considered.
Avatar f tn Taking diet pills or caffinated drinks or the like is a bad idea if you suffer from GAD. In my opinion there are far better medications for GAD then propranolol. I would suggest you consult a psychiatrist and discuss the alternatives if you haven't already done so. They are far better options to solve your anxiety problem without the lethargy. It may even very well be the anxiety that's causing the lethargy as much as the propranolol.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I currently take 100 mg of Modafinil every morning but was advised that I could take up to 400 mg per day. The doc who prescribed mentioned one tab in the am and one in the pm but I have heard from other people who take it that they find it better to take 200 mg in the am instead of splitting it into two doses. I tried the am and pm option today but am beyond exhausted. I would love to hear what anyone has found works best for them. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Hello, my doctor gave me some samples of this, I was looking it up and saw the above post, continued to search and I found where someone on here said that PV's generic is Modafinil and there are other names Alertec and Modalert. I don't know if this will help you but it is worth checking into. My insurance would not pay at first, my doctor had to fill out a form justifying it.
Avatar m tn my son is 21 and is also bipolar with psychosis so he deals with the paranoia more. he takes abilify and modafinil (modafinil is like aderol with out the addictive reactions) it helps him stay more focused. don't know if this helps - but feel free to contact me if i can help any.
1140169 tn?1370185076 My Neuro prescribed Modafinil to try and combat my fatigue, and I was wondering if anyone here has any exprience or comments about the usefulness and side effects of this drug. So far I filled the prescription but I haven't actually taken any yet. I would very much like to do away with the fatigue, but I am already taking a bunch of other drugs and am reluctant to add another to the mix. I'm also not sure what time of day I should take it.
Avatar f tn I am not sure what you are saying. Are you saying if he has sex with you while you are pregnant, can the marijuana get into you via his sperm? And harm the baby? If you are saying that, I don't know how you could possibly come to that conclusion and worry about that, I mean it indicates you do not have a proper understanding of several things. NO, having sex with a marijuana smoker poses ABSOLUTELY ZERO risk to your baby.
19327666 tn?1475833305 I just read where another user asked this same questions so I hope I'm not breaking rules here by being redundant. But I'm planning to try using modafinil to help deal with opiate PAWS related symptoms of fatigue/depresssion/lethargy, and just the general funkiness that we feel when we stop taking opiates after years of abuse.I'm very curious how this will work in the long term. I stopped taking percocets (about 250-500mg daily!
