-D Seriously,tthough, I had to decide whether I wanted to try this treatment when there was no data of how it could affect my bipolar disorder, it could have made me more unwell rather than help with my Adhd symptoms, we are constantly reviewing its effectiveness and if it effecting the cycles of my bipolar disorder and if it does we stop treatment straight away.

my son is 21 and is also bipolar with psychosis so he deals with the paranoia more. he takes abilify and modafinil (modafinil is like aderol with out the addictive reactions) it helps him stay more focused. don't know if this helps - but feel free to contact me if i can help any.

Hi there, looking for insight on lifestyle habits to better manage bipolar and ADHD disorder. Taking 600mg of lithium and 30mg of vyvanse. Wondering what nutrition choices, sleep patterns and work loads people adopt to better manage there experences with or without the medication. Also looking for information on dealing with anxiety as a result of school stress and side effects from medication.

I as well was denied alertec and they chenaged to Modafinil bc it is cheaper and needs to be tried first (the are the same.. Just cheaper) My neuro still had to send in authorization papers to have coverage approved. It was no problem for ms related fatigue. I did try amantadine first which did not help so that could have been helpful in having the Modafinil covered. Hope it goes though for you!! It is great for me!!

Topomax is generally used as a secondary mood stabilizer and is often of partial help and can cause mental changes. Lexapro and Wellbutrin are standard anti-depressents but anti-depressents alone wont treat bipolar and what is needed is a full mood stabilizer. Lamictal is generally helpful in this regard. However each person responds differently to each medication. The most important thing is to discuss with your psychiatrist why they are changing your diagnosis.

I read that Its 50/50. Depends though, I know ppl that are bipolar and have three kids, one has mood disorder. I'm bipolar, so is my husband and were having a baby in Nov. Doctors try to avoid vyvanse and adderall ect with bipolar because it causes mania. Adderal is not used for bipolar. For bipolar i take abilify (aripiprizole) 10mg and 1000mg of divalproex sodium.

I feel like I'm having a mind seizure sometimes. We still have very little knowledge of the mind and brain, though we are learning more and more. We don't really know why bipolar meds work, there are theories, but no hard science. I find addiction and bipolar to be more similar than seizures and bipolar.

t take the first line medications that are preliminary prescribed for Adhd because of my bipolar so I use a medication that me and my Pdoc extensively researched and decided to try. Modafinil Is newly being tried in some cases of Adhd and a drug that is being tested for bipolar.I take modafinil, which is primarily used for narcolepsy.

s seriously diagnosed with bipolar disorder

I do not know much about this disorder, and a friend of mine informed me they are bipolar. I have heard traits such as aggression, mania, and being deceptive? I wanted a little advice or experiences from anyone who has been in a relationship with someone who is bipolar- what to expect or think about. Thank you for any insight.

I have not been officially diagnosed with bipolar disorder. However, I have been reading a lot about it and listening to this "HealthTalk" podcast about bipolar disorder. I have been diagnosed with ADD. My doctor (who I only meet with for five to ten minutes) has prescribed me to three different anti-depressants, overall. The first medication was Lexipro, which did not help with my depression. So then he put me on Effexor XR.

Bipolar I requires a full manic or mixed episode. Bipolar II requires at least one full depressive episode and at least one hypomanic episode, with no full manic or mixed episodes.

I am married 6 years and have bipolar 2. I have had a few episodes during that time. I was diagnosed 2 years into our marriage. The last episode was a biggy and lasted six months and I am still climbing out of it. It has brought us closer together because I know he meant the 'for better or worse' part of his marriage vows. I am now on meds that are really helping. It isn't unusual for it to take years to get the right medication mix.

Part of my extensive med list comes from numerous mental health issues including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, ptsd and major depressive disorder, I also have ADD-I, lol. It's hard to find a balance that works with very few serious side effects but when I do I prefer to keep it. Oddly enough this isn't nearly as extensive as it used to be. I've cut quite a few meds out. I am also not too concerned about serotonin syndrome.

That being said, it is common for people with bipolar disorder to lose friendships for having bipolar disorder because of the stereotypes perpetuated and people's general lack of real understanding of mental illness. I could see it being hard for someone without the illness to understand if their friend was manic and doing some things she wouldn't have otherwise or even if the friend was depressed and withdrawing.

Can anyone please tell me if adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) will affect taking birth-control pills? In other words, if I occasionally take adrafinil to help me study - will it make the pills ineffective. I certainly don't want to get pregnant. I know that long term use of Modafinil decreases the effectivenes of bc pills but how about short term use? Once or twice a week? Thank you!
