mirapex

Avatar f tn it seems they increase the dopamine levels with some side effects not to get overlooked by someone with addiction issues... The poster shared her experience with mirapex of getting addicted to gambling. It can happen. She even left a link of a documental made in Canada about this terrible effect of mirapex. So just in case, be aware of this or research in case you are given those meds. i am just repeating what it was said here, i saw the doc and it was really interesting.
279948 tn?1241270076 I did spend much of my work life in a medical environment, but as support personnel. I was exposed to a lot of information, so that has helped, but everything I've learned about RLS/PLMD has been thru personal research and experience. Hey, nothing wrong with shopping (even a lot) if looking a certain way makes you feel better about yourself. It's only a problem if those habits adversely affect your financial stability or take priority over other aspects of your life.
1094974 tn?1258046298 Step 1 Admit that you have a serious problem and that you are unable to stop yourself. Ask for help from friends, family members and counseling services. Step 2 Remove yourself from situations where you feel tempted to gamble. Don’t hang out with people who encourage you to gamble or attend events where gambling is allowed. Step 3 Turn over your finances to a trusted third party, and have them receive monies and pay bills on your behalf.
Avatar n tn Look at Gambling addiction for example. If a chronic gambler were to make the argument that they are not in fact addicted or that their addiction is somehow less serious then a heroin addiction; would you believe them? Of course not! It's simply common knowledge that gambling addiction tears lives apart and breaks down individuals just as effectively as Heroin.
Avatar f tn I cut down form 15 10mg pxycodone a day to 5 10mg oxycodone a day in just 3 days. I also got a script for mirapex a rsstless leg medication and trazadone to help sleep from my doctor.
Avatar m tn My life to date has been one of constant addiction. It all started as a child when I discovered video games I would play for hours upon hours. Then as I grew older and entered my teenage years many more addictions were developed including alcohol, marijuana, cigarettes and once I turned 18 gambling. Marijuana didn’t last very long as it messed with my head quite a bit so I gave it up and have never returned to using it regularly.
1508131 tn?1289912796 I tried to approach my wife about her vicodin addiction and gamling addiction, but she said she needed her vicodin for her chronic fatigue and gambling for stress relief. She would get severely angry at me, and tell me I only want to take the things she enjoys away from her even though she needed the vicodin for her chronic fatigue. We were only married for 2 years this month, and I had to tell her to leave. Now, she said I am 100% at fault for the marriage breaking up.
Avatar f tn a gambling addiction is very different than a drug addiction. anyway, even those who are addicted to the same things as i am may very well be addicted to them for different reasons than my own. it may be easier or more difficult for them to overcome their addiction to the same things i'm addicted to. for that reason, it's not a good idea to assume other people can't understand our addiction. in fact, sometimes a sober mind...one that has never had an addiction of it's own...

4522189 tn?1355849005 a drug is a drug is a drug... fix~pill~drink~snort~smoke~swallow~....to mention a few..... 1 disease....12 steps....when someone ask for help we extend ourselves....
Avatar m tn Well, sure the medication could be making you FEEL more impulsive, but you're still in control of your decisions and compulsions. Have you ever been diagnosed with manic-depression, or Bi-polar disorder? If not, it sounds as though perhaps the Effexor may be making you a little manic. Do you feel very "up"? The sad thing here is that the medication IS working to decrease the initial symptoms you started taking it for.
Avatar f tn Gambling addictions are treated just like any other addiction. You have a few choices. The first would be a rehab situation. Gambling rehabs are all over the country, but are less prevalent than drug rehabs. You could also look online for Gambler's Anonymous. Their website is here..http://www.gamblersanonymous.org/ They also have information there along with meeting schedules. You can also get them into a personal therapist who specializes in addiction therapy.
Avatar n tn If you wish to, you could do some counselling with him maybe to learn how to be supportive without being codependant. Gambling is an addiction like any other and you are right, it IS about self control or lack of it. Im not sure "nice, supportive" can do an addict any good without him being committed to stopping his addiction and making a commitment to treatment. I'd make getting help and sticking with it and NO GAMBLING a condition of my supportive.
749148 tn?1302860959 hands... she prescribed Mirapex. I have not started it yet and wondered if anyone out there is using this medication and what your thoughts are. She recommended a TENS unit for the rib pain I guess it's caused from a miss-firing message between my spinal cord and my brain, even though no lesions showed on my thoracic MRI doesn't mean they are not there...hummmm.
11356079 tn?1421357818 Have you asked him what kind of dad he wants to be? Did his dad leave the family to go drinking and gambling? do you think he has an addiction issue going on? Alcoholism is progressive and gambling is as well in terms of addiction. It gets worse over time. Is he depressed? But no, it doesn't sound fair. this wouldn't work for me. Can you swing it on your own?

Avatar f tn ve had RLS all my life now the withdrawing is making it worse. I remember being eight and having it. Mirapex or baclofen. They are a non addictive muscle relaxants. I told my doctor I want no narcotics. But I'm still not sure it's going to affect my withdrawals. I feel great. Except for at night. I was on methadone four years five including my addiction. So I have forgotten how bad my RLS is.
565457 tn?1216455655 Hi, Recently i writed one article about addiction. Addiction means making a bad habit of something. Any kind of addiction is bad. Making our body habitual to something good or bad can take a form of an addiction. When a person converts his liking to a habit and habit to a necessity, it takes the shape of an addiction. Addictions are of many kinds such as an addiction of alcohol, coffee, tea, drugs, gambling, etc. The one who is addicted is a patient and should be handled with patience.
Avatar n tn No medical information here to offer as not an expert eithor but one thing I learned about addiction and I don't think it any different for any addiction the cycle goes like this.... A man takes a drink The drink takes a drink The drink takes the man. Its as though the substance or act wants more of itself and you who you really, what you really want or need is irrelevant to what the addiction does. Its addiction...
410281 tn?1254229064 PLMD, RLS and apnea. My neuro put me on mirapex immediately upon seeing the results. I actually feel like myself again. I had no idea that I was sleeping so poorly, especially after hearing about so much fatigue from my friends here. I can wake up and actually be awake!! I still shake, twitch, jerk and am quite tingly. But sleeping well sure makes it all more manageable... So for those of you with sleep disorders, or that think you might, ASK about Mirapex!
8659741 tn?1399221226 I believe addictions affect my sex life. Addictions to gambling, drinking, smoking and drugs. Is this true?
Avatar f tn When it comes to addiction, my experience is that we oftentimes have a DOC (Drug of choice), though that drug, be it alcohol. heroin, pain pills, benzos, can change...stopping heroin..then the compulsion to drink alcohol can kick in and on and on we go. It's a slippery slope... I believe that alcohol and addiction are one and the same. I also think that is why aftercare is crucial. Wonder what you people think.
Avatar f tn And he should do this because otherwise, if he gives up one addiction he may be prone to starting another (alcohol, gambling, shopping, etc.) because addiction of this sort is self medicating. He needs the therapy to get to the root of wha the is self medicating for. Now, I don't get all the talk from tinkerbell about fiance's and babies and all of that . . . out of left field to your question------------- but I do agree that this is a red flag.
Avatar m tn Most people who use pornography can do so without it becoming a problematic addiction (like alcohol, gambling, even junk food). For a small number it can become an addiction, which can cause problems with relationships and marriages. Also, if you spend too much time with your pornography and not enough time with real, normal girls and women, it can give you a bit of a distorted attitude about women.
