Mirapex and gambling addiction

Common Questions and Answers about Mirapex and gambling addiction

mirapex

279948 tn?1241270076 I have read the awful side effects of behavior with Mirapex and also think anything that works on the dopamine in your brain is risky and they warn of gambling or other things, like shopping. That is me. I like to look nice and shop too much. I use a walker and handcontrols on my car - somehow, I think my style counteracts the walker and the hand controls. Crazy, ins't it?. The last five years before I retired was before Mirapex and it was literally HELL.
Avatar f tn it seems they increase the dopamine levels with some side effects not to get overlooked by someone with addiction issues... The poster shared her experience with mirapex of getting addicted to gambling. It can happen. She even left a link of a documental made in Canada about this terrible effect of mirapex. So just in case, be aware of this or research in case you are given those meds. i am just repeating what it was said here, i saw the doc and it was really interesting.
1094974 tn?1258046298 Step 1 Admit that you have a serious problem and that you are unable to stop yourself. Ask for help from friends, family members and counseling services. Step 2 Remove yourself from situations where you feel tempted to gamble. Don’t hang out with people who encourage you to gamble or attend events where gambling is allowed. Step 3 Turn over your finances to a trusted third party, and have them receive monies and pay bills on your behalf.
1508131 tn?1289912796 I tried to approach my wife about her vicodin addiction and gamling addiction, but she said she needed her vicodin for her chronic fatigue and gambling for stress relief. She would get severely angry at me, and tell me I only want to take the things she enjoys away from her even though she needed the vicodin for her chronic fatigue. We were only married for 2 years this month, and I had to tell her to leave. Now, she said I am 100% at fault for the marriage breaking up.
Avatar f tn I cut down form 15 10mg pxycodone a day to 5 10mg oxycodone a day in just 3 days. I also got a script for mirapex a rsstless leg medication and trazadone to help sleep from my doctor.

Avatar f tn What should I be expecting? The guy said he had a gambling addiction and deals with a lot of addicts, do you think he'll be able to understand what I am going through? I have an opiate problem. I am waking up tomorrow and taking suboxone and really trying to make this work. Do you think for the first couple of weeks I should meet with him twice a week? Anyone have any good tips or advice?

Avatar m tn Check out the discussion on how terrible the withdrawal symptoms are for Effexor. That may sway you to try something else anyway-there are other options. Personally I'd avoid Effexor after withdrawal myself. Some doctors (even psychiatrists) are not that knowledgable about these very powerful drugs. Also-it COULD be the Effexor for these reasons: as 'nursegirl' said: mania can make a person feel great and do things like you are experiencing; everyone responds differently.
Avatar f tn Being that the casino nd liquor store are next to each other and only 30seconds away from my home, ugh! Where do i start?
Avatar n tn If you wish to, you could do some counselling with him maybe to learn how to be supportive without being codependant. Gambling is an addiction like any other and you are right, it IS about self control or lack of it. Im not sure "nice, supportive" can do an addict any good without him being committed to stopping his addiction and making a commitment to treatment. I'd make getting help and sticking with it and NO GAMBLING a condition of my supportive.
749148 tn?1302860959 hands... she prescribed Mirapex. I have not started it yet and wondered if anyone out there is using this medication and what your thoughts are. She recommended a TENS unit for the rib pain I guess it's caused from a miss-firing message between my spinal cord and my brain, even though no lesions showed on my thoracic MRI doesn't mean they are not there...hummmm.
11356079 tn?1421357818 Have you asked him what kind of dad he wants to be? Did his dad leave the family to go drinking and gambling? do you think he has an addiction issue going on? Alcoholism is progressive and gambling is as well in terms of addiction. It gets worse over time. Is he depressed? But no, it doesn't sound fair. this wouldn't work for me. Can you swing it on your own?

574118 tn?1305135284 I do know that taking an antidepressant without a mood stabilizer can cause mania, also I take Mirapex (a dopamine drug) to help treat my fibro and I'm under "special watch" because the dopamine meds can cause mania even in people that aren't bipolar. My husband was taking Mirapex as well for his fibro and he had to stop because it made him feel manic, and he's not bipolar. So I can't speak for the seratonin, but the dopamine can definitely make someone manic.
462570 tn?1273632977 My doc just prescribed Mirapex for me. And it helps a great deal. It stimulates the D1, D2, D3 and D4 dopamine receptors. It is an agonist and most especially hits the D4. It really helps the pain but I'm not sure if that is because it relaxs me or if it is actually correcting a deficiency in the dopamine levels that is causing the fibro. It also stimulates something that makes me dream vividly and sleep very lightly (of course, if you dream all night long - you are sleeping lightly!
Avatar f tn ve had RLS all my life now the withdrawing is making it worse. I remember being eight and having it. Mirapex or baclofen. They are a non addictive muscle relaxants. I told my doctor I want no narcotics. But I'm still not sure it's going to affect my withdrawals. I feel great. Except for at night. I was on methadone four years five including my addiction. So I have forgotten how bad my RLS is.
565457 tn?1216455655 Making our body habitual to something good or bad can take a form of an addiction. When a person converts his liking to a habit and habit to a necessity, it takes the shape of an addiction. Addictions are of many kinds such as an addiction of alcohol, coffee, tea, drugs, gambling, etc. The one who is addicted is a patient and should be handled with patience. The family of the patient has to suffer equally as the patient.
Avatar n tn No medical information here to offer as not an expert eithor but one thing I learned about addiction and I don't think it any different for any addiction the cycle goes like this.... A man takes a drink The drink takes a drink The drink takes the man. Its as though the substance or act wants more of itself and you who you really, what you really want or need is irrelevant to what the addiction does. Its addiction...
410281 tn?1254229064 PLMD, RLS and apnea. My neuro put me on mirapex immediately upon seeing the results. I actually feel like myself again. I had no idea that I was sleeping so poorly, especially after hearing about so much fatigue from my friends here. I can wake up and actually be awake!! I still shake, twitch, jerk and am quite tingly. But sleeping well sure makes it all more manageable... So for those of you with sleep disorders, or that think you might, ASK about Mirapex!
8659741 tn?1399221226 I believe addictions affect my sex life. Addictions to gambling, drinking, smoking and drugs. Is this true?
Avatar f tn I believe that alcohol and addiction are one and the same. I also think that is why aftercare is crucial. Wonder what you people think. Also, wondering how many addicts had either alcoholic or addicted parent(s) or grandparent(s) :) No, I'm not writing a book..just curious.
