Common Questions and Answers about Mirapex for parkinson

mirapex

910476 tn?1245881549 Anyway I hope thsi helps abit. Mirapex is actually a Parkensons Disease drug but tests have found it works for RLS.
487070 tn?1313665952 Sinemet, Mirapex, Requip and Neurontin. All helped for a while but needed increasing doses and the side effects and augmentation became intolerable. I now use a TENS Unit before bedtime, and it has done as well for me as the meds after their initial usefulness waned. I was on so many meds that made me nauseous I wasn't sure which caused what. But I puked a lot for a while. Somehow I guess I became more tolerant because it did nearly stop. Maybe your body will adjust too.

410281 tn?1254229064 I am on Mirapex for restless leg and periodic limb movement disorder. I actually woke up yesterday for the first time that I can even remember feeling rested. AND I didn't kick my hubby out of bed. So it must be working for that, which I am very thankful. My concern comes from the research I did on the possible relation to PLMD and Parkinson's and the other symptoms that I have been suffering for over a year now. The tingling, twitching, jerking, stiffness.
Avatar f tn So meds that work to increase dopamine levels have been helpful as well- meds like the muscle relaxer, Baclofen, the antidepressant Wellbutrin, and the Parkinson drug Mirapex, which is also good for Restless Legs Syndrome which is a fibro symptom. Alternative treatments and treating underlying causes of fibro, such as sleep apnea and thyroid disease have proven helpful as well.
230948 tn?1235844329 I use to be on Reuip (an anit-Parkinson drug for Restleg Syndrome) I felt like you know what on it, but I seem to have reacted to all the drugs with l-dopa and levodopa that way. So maybe it's just me. This drug combination doesn't seem to work well with my own brain chemicals. BUT, everyone is different. If you have to go on one of these drugs, would you come back over to us and tell us how it's going? We miss you, Sam.
1390101 tn?1281000559 I was on mirapex for 3 years, my miracle drug, for my RLS during that period I develop a gambling addiction. I find out that this is a side of the mirapex. For the sake of my self and the loss od my my family I choose to get off of it.I It took me 2 trys to get off of them and have suceeded. I no long have the urge to gamble. ,Now I am on simumet for my RLS and it does not work like the mirapex , I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go to sleep.
1154672 tn?1262222616 I have severe Restless leg Syndrome. I have been on Mirapex for about 6 years now, and never had a problem. I am unemployed now, and do not have any health insurance. My doctor has been great to give me samples, however; they are out of them right now. My doctor tried giving me clonazepam 1 mg 2 nights ago, I walked the floors and tossed and turned all night. I called my doctor, and she said to increase my clonazepam to 2mg before bed.
1200450 tn?1317496867 Have any of you ever had issues falling asleep while on the mirapex? I find that once I do get to sleep it helps me stay asleep better. But for some reason the mirapex gives me anxiety and makes it harder for me to get to sleep. I spend up to 2 hours just trying to fall asleep. I even tried adding over the counter sleeping pills with it but still find it difficult to get to sleep.
Avatar m tn I think the one you are thinking about is called Hylands and it is a supplement.
410281 tn?1254229064 It's possible. Sleep deprivation causes a generalized nervous system excitability which can manifest in various muscle twitches and spasms. Mirapex (which is also used for Parkinson's) acts in your central nervous system to control your nervous system problems. Did you ever treat your sleep apnea? And if so, how was it treated?
Avatar n tn t know about the Monavie but what I take and is wonderful is Mirapex. I take it 3 times a day and have no restless legs unless I skip a dose or run out and then the RLS returns. I hope this has helped.
Avatar n tn I'm on .25mg of Mirapex for RLS and am gaining weight. Has anyone else experienced this. Any idea as to why. Suggestions? Thanks!
398059 tn?1447945633 Because of the Mirapex and Gabapentin I can sleep at all. I still get uncomfortable though. It is pain really, except in my left arm anyway. But, the uncomfortablnes and pain in left arm is toerable. I just need more sleep than i am getting.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your feedback. We would also love it if doctors would give out MedHelp's URL to their patients to help track symptoms. Then their patients could just click Email This on their trackers and send it to their doctors for review. We could easily add Restless Legs as a symptom and Mirapex as a treatment to the Sleep Tracker. Would that work for you?
Avatar m tn Starting day 4 now. Waking up, I felt a bit better. It seems things are on the upswing. Hooray! Thanks all for the advice. When I go back to my doctor I will definitely mention the meds you guys recommended. As far as being prescribed hydrocodone for RLS, it is a fairly common practice these days if anti-parkinson drugs don't work (and for me they didn't). Even the mirapex I take right now only works for about 2 hours, then I have to re-dose.
Avatar n tn I tried the Gabapentin and got up to 1200 mg - which was also taken before bed, but it did nothing for me. I have been told that Mirapex works much better than Ropinerol - you may want to talk to your doc about Mirapex as an option - it just went generic.
Avatar f tn I loose a lot of sleep. I get in day and night. My arms even jerk and have that restless feeling. Mirapex is taken twice a day and don't help. No drs will address it and I'm miserable . Is this a lack of a vitamin or mineral. Do I ever get rid of them?
Avatar f tn But waht i wanted to comment was something i read here from a poster about some meds for RLS... mirapex and requip... it seems they increase the dopamine levels with some side effects not to get overlooked by someone with addiction issues... The poster shared her experience with mirapex of getting addicted to gambling. It can happen. She even left a link of a documental made in Canada about this terrible effect of mirapex.
462570 tn?1273632977 My doc just prescribed Mirapex for me. And it helps a great deal. It stimulates the D1, D2, D3 and D4 dopamine receptors. It is an agonist and most especially hits the D4. It really helps the pain but I'm not sure if that is because it relaxs me or if it is actually correcting a deficiency in the dopamine levels that is causing the fibro. It also stimulates something that makes me dream vividly and sleep very lightly (of course, if you dream all night long - you are sleeping lightly!
574118 tn?1305135284 I do know that taking an antidepressant without a mood stabilizer can cause mania, also I take Mirapex (a dopamine drug) to help treat my fibro and I'm under "special watch" because the dopamine meds can cause mania even in people that aren't bipolar. My husband was taking Mirapex as well for his fibro and he had to stop because it made him feel manic, and he's not bipolar. So I can't speak for the seratonin, but the dopamine can definitely make someone manic.
Avatar n tn During the day, I would be walking through a room and go to sleep standing. He gave me clonazapam, and added Mirapex. I also take Cymbalta for nueropathy pain, and it works. Then I take Car/ lev. I know I take too much medicine but it is better than not sleeping and walking in my sleep. After I began sleeping at night, I would find myself lying on the floor asleep. Now, I wake up on my knees leaning on the bed. I am wondering how much longer do I have?
