Started 50mg Minocycline with dinner Saturday night for perioral Dermatitis. Woke on Sunday very depressed, unable to deal with people, very irritable & crying. Chalked it up to a bad depression day. Worse next day. No other changes. Nothing else to trigger worse depression & anxiety. 2 pharmacists & my psychiatrist all say this shouldn't be the case & I can't find any info on a google search.
I am newly diagnosed with HIV last February of this year, had my cd4 count (t-cells) checked and it's still good at 462. i've been exercising regularly and taking 1000mg of vitamin C and centrum multivatimins once a day.
just recently I developed red spots on my face and on my forearms, I had it checked with my doctor and told me it was caused by an allergy and is now under medications and food observation to figure out which food i am allergic at.
Try smoking a much smaller amount instead, or skipping your minocycline dose (with dr. supervision) to see if you still feel the same negative effects when you smoke. Good luck to you!

I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.

I was diagnosed with Lyme based on a positive Western Blot test and a Sunnybrook test that was indicative on the 93 band (I think that was the band) I am on Minocycline and was wondering if others out there were also on it and if it worked for them. I seem to be getting better. There are ups and downs but I am able to move much better than anytime in the past 7 and a half years. Just wondering how long one has to be on the drug and if it really makes you better.
I started minocycline feb 10 and conceived my baby feb 21 but i didnt stop the medicine until march 9 ( only because i didnt know i was preg) im 7 weeks now and i just wanna know has anybody else expericed this with a positive outcome ?

For the last year, I've been on 100mg of minocycline per day to treat acne. I looked up that minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV because it can potentially reduce replication and activation in latent infected HIV cells, primary CD4+ cells.
For 3 weeks I never thought that the Minocycline had anything to do with what was happening to me. I was so desperate for my skin to clear up that it had never even occurred to me that I was severely allergic to the Minocycline. Until, I went to stay with my mom for the weekend because the depression was too much for me to handle. I needed to see her. I expalined everything and she saw my skin and how badly I was itching.
The question I posed was should I be overly concerned about getting rectally tested for STDs if I have had only one instance of rectal exposure vs many instances of genital exposure (all with the same person, obviously). The expert in this forum told me practically, since I had been tested negative at the genital site, the risk from rectal was low since it was all with the same person.

I have all of the symptoms, no money to get tested. I do have some old minocycline and tetracycline from old acne.

I have severe pain from spine and joint inflammation, and severe arthritis. ve read on here that a person taking PEP should test after 3 months of being off PEP to obtain a conclusive result. I took minocycline for 4 months after possible exposure. Then got tested 3 and a half weeks later (around 5 months). Negative result. The test was a rapid antibody test. Can someone please weigh in and tell me could minocycline possibly be used as a PEP drug for HIV? And if so, should I be worried about my status? Should I test again?
The only drugs that might have an effect are things have have a major effect on the immune system, like cancer chemotherapy or powerful immune suppressing drugs -- and even these are theoretical, with few if any actual known cases of intereference with HIV test result. Certainly a common antibiotic like minocycline has no effect at all.
Because minocycline is so highly lipid soluble, 100 mg twice daily is comparable with 400-mg daily doses of doxycycline in terms of CNS concentrations.
