Common Questions and Answers about Minocycline and rash

Avatar f tn t want to put makeup on it, so I took a break from taking the Apo-Minocycline and about a week later it finally started to fade. I had this rash for about 3 weeks all together. I was relieved it was gone, so I continued on with my life and didn't think much of it. Soon after I started taking apo-minocycline again, since my acne was popping up more without it, and sure enough, about a week and a half later, a rash identical to the last had appeared.
737143 tn?1232824698 On wednesday morning I did take minocycline. The same day I reported to dr that I ma getting the itching and when I scratch it is turning into rash. But on wednesday night I did not get any itching or rash. Since wednesday night to until now I did not get any rash. I am wondering if the itch is because of the antibiotics.
Avatar m tn two to three months later the rash broke out on my arms and legs, I had what appeared to be poison which went away and then reappeared. I did have contact with some bushes in the yard a week before the outbreak. After seeing a Dermatologist and given prednisone and a shot, it went away only to be replaced by what appeared to be an extremely itchy form of Dermatographism which later changed into a spontaneously occurring papular dermatitis which I've had for 6 months.
Avatar n tn have been on roaccutane for 3 weeks now, I tablet a day, from by derm, cos apparently i have perorial dermititus, after 2 months on doxy and 3 months on minocyline, and my rash (on each side of my mouth) are getting bigger. should i go back on minocycline. And if so, can i take minocycline straight away after stopping roaccutane.
Avatar f tn Im currently taking minocycline and been on this for two weeks, bout a week before my face broke out in a rash and its on my upper and lower cheeks sometimes neck. Im demographic, don't understand that yet. My dermatologist said that the rash on my face was allergies?!?!?!? take a claritin or zyrtec. ive been taking claritin and it worked for the first three days and her i am... perioral is gone while im on this anitbiotic and this itcing is driving me insane!! Somebody give me some advice.
Avatar n tn I notice that you have suggested oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs to combat perioral dermatitis. I've been suffering from this condition for about 2 years. I was pregnant when I was diagnosed with it and my doctor was only comfortable prescribing a topical antibiotic. This did very little to help the condition.
Avatar n tn I went to my dermathologist and she prescribed me Scheriderm for one week. The same day I quit using the cream, the rash came back, so she told me to continue using it untill we have the results of some blood tests I made. When the rash seemed to have disappeared, the same dermathologist told me to use it less and less untill I finally quit it. But the rash came back the same moment I stopped using the cream twice a day.
Avatar n tn I have gone to the doctors 3 times and I've just been given Benadryl and Minocycline. Both of which have not helped me at all. As time passes on, this issue has gotten worse and worse. I used to only get those bumps every so often, now I get it atleast 2 times a day.
Avatar m tn It says that minodene belongs to a class of drugs called tetracycline and the active substance is minocycline as minocycline hydrochloride dihydrate. Still no difference to the result??
Avatar f tn I have been reading that minocycline can cause black thyroid in some people and can take up to a year to reverse after stopping medication. it is given to teenagers for acne and my son was on it for 6 mths twice a day having severe headaches yet the dr ignored it until I googled and realized that it could be effecting his thyroid and causing the headaches since those were listed as symptoms and wondered if anyone else ran into that.....his thyroid test did come back 4.6 with the top normal of 4.
Avatar f tn t really understand what the connection was, but I wanted to know if I could trust my HIV test results even though I am on Minocycline, and was for months before, during, and after my HIV test. Also, just to ease my mind, is there ANYTHING else that could effect the validity of an HIV test (aspirin, menstrual cycle, diet, anything)? Thank you so much in advance, I really appreciate your help.
Avatar m tn I know you said this thread is ended but could you please take a look at this and tell me what you think of it and could this data indicate that minocycline could indeed slow down replication making it possible for delayed seroconversion, which would make my test at the 5 month mark inaccurate. http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/201/8/1132.full This is where all of my anxiety has came from.
Avatar f tn Now have finished 2 yrs on daily antibiotic (minocycline and levaquin). Was doing well but have very unsightly and widespread blackening of skin, which does not clear up I believe my darkened cataracts developed as my skin blackened, and that this blackening residue is possibly in all my organs. Have recently dropped back to single minocycline/day (100 mg) but believe cysts may already be redeveloping.
Avatar n tn I have been taking 2/day now for about 5 days and have completely stopped using the cream or any other cortisone cream. My rash seem so be so much worse now that it has EVER been and I even have some now on my chin!!! I have always had clear skin so this is really frustrating for me. I have heard that my skin could be going through withdrawl from the steroid cream. Is this normal for my skin to get worse before it gets better using this type of antibiotic?
Avatar m tn The test was a rapid antibody test. Can someone please weigh in and tell me could minocycline possibly be used as a PEP drug for HIV? And if so, should I be worried about my status? Should I test again? I'm worried because I read on the web minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV that has been shown to reduce replication of the virus. Here's the link. http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/201/8/1132.full Please advise. Any replies are helpful. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CRP after years of trying the shampoo and typical fungal treatments. I must be one of the lucky ones, because after seeing a dermatologist and getting on minocycline, I have been pretty much CRP free for about 5 yrs now. I have one little brown spot on each side of my armpit area, and that's it. Oh, and I only took the minocycline for about 6 months. I know for some people, they have to take it continually in order to prevent reoccurance.
Avatar f tn Here is a great article about food interactions with drugs sometimes used to treat Lyme and coinfections. I have been on a few of the meds listed in the artIcle, and I was unaware of these conflicts, especially dairy / calcium with the tetracyclines (Doxycycline, Minocycline) & fluroquinolones (Cipro, Avelox, Levaquin). It also mentions that caffeine, and therefore chocolate, can interfere with some antibiotics, but then doesn't say which ones. http://health.yahoo.
Avatar m tn 3% not as strong as the retin a mico 0.1% i was on and minocycline 100 mg daily to 40 mg a day oracea for only redness and not pimples would help ?seems like it would make it worse..please explain...
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me minocycline and I started taking it for about four days and then found out I was pregnant. I have stopped taking it since, but now I've read some of the birth defects that it causes and I'm really scared. I'm only about 5 weeks and was just wondering if someone could give some more in depth info on the possibilities of something happening to my baby. I was taking 100mg twice a day.
Avatar n tn I have had this rash only on my neck for over a month now. Just red, doesn't itch. I went to the derm which was actually a nurse practitioner last week. She took one look and said acne/ follicullitis. But I don't have acne anywhere else? So she gave me minocycline, which i had already been taking on and off. Also, told me to get Panoxil 10%. The day after I used the panoxil the rash has become redder and progressively spreading.
Avatar f tn I noticed behind my neck and breast I have brown blothcy, 3D ish looking rash. The rash behind my neck tends to be itchy now and then but not much at all. I noticed that this is under folds. I try to shower 2 times a day and keep my hygien clean as can. I went to the derm and they gave me Minocycline but nothing seems to be working. My derm., says she doesnt have much experience in my situation, so I left with no answer. Pls., help me out...I need answers as I would like it to go away.
Avatar m tn I still have some of the capsules and every now and then I have to take them for 4 or 5 days and the rash will go away and stay away for months on end. The rash seems to come back during periods of time where I am very athletically active. It seems that my skin gets dry and flaky and then I will start to notice the rash. I stay hydrated but it happens anyways. I have done some reading about vitamins and it has brought me to wonder, could it be caused by vitamin deficiency?
Avatar n tn Thank you for your prompt and reasuring response. My only concern is that I have been taking the minocycline for five weeks and although much better the dermatitis is still there. Every dermatology site I checked said anitbiotics are needed for a 12 week period. Is this the case with your experience of POD.
Avatar m tn Eating hot foods or entering a room temperature building after walking outside in the cold also triggers the persistent itching, without any visible signs of rash or changes to the skin. The itching is often followed by a quick chill and usually dissipates after I start to sweat. I have tried topical corticosteroid ointments in select areas of the body in which itching is more prominent but there has been no change. Daily moisturization of the entire body does not help much either.
Avatar f tn My concern is that after being on Minocycline for two weeks I developed a rash on my chest and arms, discontinued its use (rash went away) but developed a yeast infection about a 1.5 weeks after discontinuation (1/11/2010) and it has lasted at varying levels of intensity for a month. I've learned that persistent yeast infections and skin can be a sign of HIV infection. Questions: (Assuming he is positive) How reliable is my original negative result?
Avatar f tn I have Neuro Lyme and from an MRI found I had lesions on my brain from a co-infection of Lyme called Bartonella. You may have that infection and minocycline is often used for Bart's. Do you know if the tests were taken at IgeneX labs? Things do improve with treatment so I am glad you will be on your way soon.
Avatar n tn Hi, You have not described the nature of the rash nor is the photo available but nonetheless the most common causes for rash on the face would be allergy and acne. Azelaic acid (FINACEA Gel), 15%, is indicated for topical treatment of inflammatory papules and pustules of mild to moderate rosacea. Rosacea begins as erythema (flushing and redness) on the central face and across the cheeks, nose, or forehead.
