Avatar f tn As far as treatment is concerned, minocycline can cure chlamydia but the dose you are taking is a bit lower than what might be recommended for chlamydial infection. Nonetheless, if you were infected and tool the drug for a month as you have, I would expect it to cure chlamydia. i really think you need to stop worrying about this.
Avatar m tn Hi - Minocycline may give you a false negative on an STD test for gonorrhea and chlamydia. (Any antibiotic would.) Depending on the dose, it may cure gonorrhea, though there is some resistance to it now with certain strains of gonorrhea. It MAY prevent you from getting it, but the studies done that showed it would are quite old, and were done before resistance. All that said, oral sex is lower risk, even for men who have sex with men.
Avatar m tn ve been taking Minocycline 90 mg once per day for about a month before the incident and continue to take it afterwards for severe acne. As minocycline is known to cure gonorrhea and chlamydia, will it help in fighting it off or make me more immune somehow?
Avatar n tn I had unprotected sex with a female and about 6 days after developed symptoms of chlamydia. Went to the doctor and was given 1g dosage of azithromycin and another dose of suprax and i took both of them immediately. About 5 days after this, my ex-gf and I decided to get back together. We did not have penetrative sex and as far as i could tell there was no direct genital to genital contact, but i did notice that there was a little bit of semen on her stomach area.
Avatar m tn The doctor said I most probably had chlamydia or gonorrhea, and as I am allergic to penicillin, he prescribed me 100mg of Minocycline, twice daily, for 10 days. Symptoms seemed to reduce, but after a week I still had a prolonged uncomfortable sensation in the urethra as well as redness around the end of the penis. I also now had conjunctivitis in both eyes! I should also mention that in the meantime I had read that Minocycline is not very effective for Gonorrhea (50%).
Avatar m tn I have been clean 100% since after being cured of chlamydia via minocycline and have had no problems with my stomach, but as soon as I let her give me unprotected oral, I started feeling the same stomach issued I did last year after she gave me unprotected oral. This is how I know that she is without a doubt infected, but she just cries or gets angry, defensive when I try to explain that she is infected even if her urine test came up negative.
Avatar f tn The dr did give me an rx for a 10-day course of Minocycline (sp?) in case the Bactrim did not work and I have chlamydia. As well as two fluconazole tablets to take after I had completed the antibiotic treatment in case of potential yeast overgrowth while on the antibiotics. But…the Bactrim seems to have worked based on the much lower white blood cell count in my urine and significantly lessened symptoms. And he said if it was an STD, the Bactrim wouldn’t have done anything.
Avatar f tn Minocycline is one of the listed drugs that cause vitamin B12 malabsorption. Minocycline also has anti-thyroid effects. Long term treatment with minocycline (at least 100 mg/day) can cause hyperpigmentation of the skin, nails, bones, thyroid, teeth, palate, eye, heart valves. Thyroid cancer is frequently found with black thyroid syndrome (macroscopic black discolouration of the thyroid gland).
Avatar m tn Hello Peter, It usually helps us if you have a question or want to share a potential risk. Please see a physician for the correct dosage and correct diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed minocycline for my acne on the 21st of December and started taking it that day, found out on the 27th of January that I am pregnant with my first baby and I am driving myself crazy with worry! Everything I've read is telling me that minocycline is extremely bad to take while pregnant or becoming pregnant.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Lyme based on a positive Western Blot test and a Sunnybrook test that was indicative on the 93 band (I think that was the band) I am on Minocycline and was wondering if others out there were also on it and if it worked for them. I seem to be getting better. There are ups and downs but I am able to move much better than anytime in the past 7 and a half years. Just wondering how long one has to be on the drug and if it really makes you better.

Avatar f tn I was off minocycline for five days before I started birth control,as starting will the minocycline still be in my system and effect the birth control?
Avatar m tn Thanks in advance for your response. I'm a 19 year old male that had a potential exposure 5 months ago with a female who is known to get around. The sex was unprotected. For the last year, I've been on 100mg of minocycline per day to treat acne. I looked up that minocycline is an investigatory drug for HIV because it can potentially reduce replication and activation in latent infected HIV cells, primary CD4+ cells.
Avatar f tn I know that you have already answered questions about antibiotics affecting HIV tests, but I wanted to ask this specific question. I am on 50mg of Minocycline twice a day, every day, on a long term basis for acne. When I searched the internet, I found a handful of results about Minocycline affecting HIV patients.
Avatar m tn ve read on here that a person taking PEP should test after 3 months of being off PEP to obtain a conclusive result. I took minocycline for 4 months after possible exposure. Then got tested 3 and a half weeks later (around 5 months). Negative result. The test was a rapid antibody test. Can someone please weigh in and tell me could minocycline possibly be used as a PEP drug for HIV? And if so, should I be worried about my status? Should I test again?
Avatar m tn I have acne all over the back of my head and on my back it hurts to touch in some spots and to dry my hair.
Avatar n tn Hi. I have been on minocycline since I was 21 (now 29) for acne. I recently went to a new family practice Dr. While I was there he noticed I was on mino and asked how long I'd been taking it. I told him my acne treatment history. He pointed out that my shines were green (look like bruises). He asked how long I'd had those "bruises". I replyed that they'd been there longer then normal. Months maybe.
Avatar m tn I went to the dermatologist and he gave me pills for my face Solodine 80 MG which is Minocycline. The irritation got better with the Solodine but I still have irritation. I told my girl friend to get treated and she went to her doctor but they checked her for everything and they said she they couldn’t treat her for something she doesn’t have. I told her to go back and get treated and she said her doctor finally gave her 2 pills.
Avatar f tn I was taking 1800 mgs a day of Trileptal in my first 5 weeks of pregnancy. Minocycline 100 mgs . Should I be concerned that there are abnormalities or did I possibly quick the medication in time?
Avatar m tn A clinical trial led by doctors Luanne Metz and Wee Yong shows the common acne medicine minocycline can slow the process of MS in people who have experienced initial symptoms of the debilitating autoimmune disease. The clinical trial that led to minocycline’s proved efficacy was conducted at the university’s Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the Cumming School of Medicine. The results of the trial are to be published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Thursday.
