Avatar f tn I visited the doctor Monday with a vaginal infection and was given Metronidazole to start taking. I went back for results Wednesday and I was confirmed to have BV. My doctor then gave me Erythromycin to take (2, twice a day)... as well as the Metronidazole (3, three times a day). This seems like an awful lot of antibiotics. Why was I given Erythromycin, when from as far as I can tell, Metronidazole alone is the recommended treatment for BV? Hope someone can shed some light on this. Thanks!

1472764 tn?1287588186 Has anyone ever used oral metronidazole for a vaginal bacterial infection? I'm on my 5th of 7th day and have developed a very thick clear to cloudy mucousy discharge. Is this normal. I know the gel form will pull everything out in a thick white chunky discharge but does the oral pill.
Avatar f tn I am having the same problem but i had been diagnossed with trichomonas in december I was perscribed metronidazole, in two weeks went for my follow up and the obgyn told me i still had it and that she would perscribe me tinidazole after i took it my symptoms were gone and every thing so before i went for my next follow up i had gotten a second opinion and they sad i was clear of all stds, so the very next day i go back to my obgyn and she just called me today and said that i still had trich so s
Avatar f tn Metronidazole can cause diarrhea as a side effect. But it may be also working on the infective cause of your dog's illness in the first place, so don't stop it without speaking to your vet. Meanwhile keep your dog hydrated. If you can find an unflavoured electrolyte drink like Pedialyte that would be great. Plain water would do for a short time but Pedialyte would be better.
Avatar m tn My heart beat is erratic most of the time anyway but when I tried taking flagyl for campylobacter, it didn't affect my heart at all. I just got extremely sick and intestinal issues worsened. They had to switch me.
Avatar n tn For the past ten days I have been taking Metronidazole (Two 250mg oral tablets, twice daily). I took my last pills lastnight around 10:30 pm. My question is, would it be okay for me to consume alcohol on Saturday night? I know my pharmacist told me to absolutely stay away from alcohol while I was taking the pills because I would vomit alot, and he said most people wait a couple of days after they've finished before they drink. Im just wondering if two days is enough time?
Avatar n tn I have a dog with IBD and he takes a compounded steroid called Budesonide everyday plus an enzyme supplement called Prozyme and stays on a strict diet of a fish and pot dry kibble. He still flares up every few months with bloody diarrhea which then we start up sulfasalazine 3 times a day which usually calms things down within a few days and after a week or 2 he's back on track.
Avatar f tn I had to take it last week for 5 days. Everything is great with baby. It does say that there is no harm to take it however I understand your concern. I'm 27w 5d I'm sure I would've been me hesitant at 6 weeks.
Avatar f tn a + wiff test is considered diagnostic for bv and you should've been treated for it a month ago when you were seen.
Avatar n tn Hi guys,i seen some peoples on this forum that got rid off patm with Flagyl(Metronidazole), have you tried this? Would be nice to hear some oppinions about it from peoples who actually used it.
Avatar n tn I'm a 39-year-old female with only one partner (my husband). After my recent period I noticed I had a brown, foul smelling discharge. I was on vacation so called my GYN who suspected I had bacterial vaginosis (BV). She prescribed me a 5 day course of metronidazole gel, which I just completed. The smell seems mostly better, but the discharge is still fairly significant (enough that I need to wear a sanitary pad) and I'm concerned that the symptoms haven't gone away after treatment.
Avatar n tn in your opinion should i be worried and pushing for more/other kind of testing, and if so what kind of tests, and looking for what? thanks so much for your time.
Avatar f tn vaginalis is the predominant species. Similar to what happens in many other biofilm-related infections, standard antibiotics, like metronidazole, are unable to fully eradicate the vaginal biofilm, which can explain the high recurrence rates of BV. Furthermore, antibiotic therapy can also cause a negative impact on the healthy vaginal microflora. These issues sparked the interest in developing alternative therapeutic strategies.
Avatar m tn The dose for metronidazole is 20 to 25mg per kg. The dose for a large lab would be 500 to 750mg twice per day tor 7 days (Do not overdose). If you have not given the correct dose or metronidazole than another course of metronidazole may help. There could be gastrointestinal parasites not covered by the metronidazole, of course, and it would be best to have your dog's stool checked.
Avatar f tn So just a quick question for all the women that have taken this before for bacterial vaginosis. So I started this a couple days ago and today I had a heavy amount of sticky discharge. This isnt normal for me. So I was wondering if this has happend to anyone else. Is it just the antibiotic clearing the infection.
Avatar n tn take dispirin tabs and metronidazole 400mg for 3 days
Avatar f tn ve been told by my GI doctor that my peripherial neurapathy is partially caused by the over-use of the metronidazole a antibiotic. I also have low levels of vitamin b1. my question is on the antibiotic metronidazole, Can this cause to my peripherial neurapathy be "corrected" after the toxin has finally left my body? or will this be permantent and get "worse" with time? what can I do to stave off the progression if so?
