Avatar f tn With that being said, perhaps you should try an MAOI. EMSAM is the popular MAOI on the market right now, and luckily, there are no food restrictions at the lowest dose. There's mixed opinions about the effectiveness of MAOI's, but generally they are effective when reuptake inhibitors aren't doing the job. If you don't notice a significant reduction in symptoms after an MAOI, maybe its time for an antagonist of some sort like: remeron, nefazodone, trazadone, or a tricyclic.

I also had ECT during that time which stabilized me during the two weeks. I have continued with the MAOI and ECT. I follow the diet most of the time, occasionally having a taste of something on the No-No list. I have not had any problems with this.

Avatar f tn First, you have to find an anti-depressant that works for you. Some work for some people while others don't. If the medicine is working for you and you are depressed you should feel different once the medicine is working. This typically takes 4-6 weeks. If you don't feel different (relief from depressive symptoms) then the medicine probably doesn't work for you. You should then try another antidepressant.

I am not sure why a MAOI class drug was prescribed. Is it used to treat other conditions ? In her case she has had weight loss and tiredness in last few months. She also used to take Elderol due to high LDL for last couple years.
Avatar f tn None of them have given me much insight into the disease or offered up much advice on how to deal with the pain other than a prescription called Utira-C. Which is a pill containing methylene blue that I can take up to four times a day for bladder pain. However, my doctor advised me not to take it too often. If I can stand to go without it, I should, he said. Because apparently it has long-term side-effects on the heart.. So I'm scared to take it at all now.
