Avatar n tn During moderate/sever flare-ups I took prednisone orally, in foam suppository as well as mesalamine orally and through suppository. In moderate flare-ups mesalamine orally w/ mesalamine suppositories. My question is - beyond the general risk that HSV presents - how additionally risky is this for me? It is a possibility that at some point I will have a flare-up that will require immonusuppressive therapy. If I was to contract HSV could my UC symptoms become more severe?
163305 tn?1333668571 At 1 year, the recurrence rate was 46% in the placebo group (unusually high), approximately 14% in each of the mesalamine and lactobacillus DG groups, and 0% in the combination group. We know from other trials that 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) drugs have a preventive benefit, but now it seems to be apparent that the combination with a probiotic makes some sense. What do I do in my patients now?
Avatar f tn He had a flare up and has been in the hospital for 3-4 days twice. In the hospital they put him on 4.8g of mesalamine and 60mg of prednisone. After that they put him on 1.6g of mesalamine and 40g of prednisone. It worked for couple of weeks but now he started having fever at night so they put him on 2.4g of mesalamine and 40mg of prednisone. Will see how this one works. This has been the 3rd night on this dosage. I feel like this dr are not caught up on their readings.

Avatar m tn The cost of a radio frequency ablation in the United States can run from around $2,000in facilities that only specialise in this procedure to around $3,000 elswhere. It is my understanding that medical procedures in India can be as much as 70% less than the same treatment in the US which would make this procedure the equivalent of between $140 and $210 in India if what I have read is true. I hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Six years ago he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, and it extended from inside his rectum all the way up and around the first bend in his colon. He never took medication for it, because he's hardheaded - but he smokes, and the nicotine had kept him from ever having any flare-ups. Today he had a follow-up colonoscopy, and the doctor seemed very shocked to find that my husband has absolutely NO signs of ever having the ulcerative colitis.

878413 tn?1240304669 I am very sorry that I cannot personally vouch for any of the Indian medical schools. I know that the Indian physicians here in Kansas City are excellent and most did at least their medical school and internship there. You might do a literature search on CSR and look for Indian authors. I'm sure there is a list somewhere of the top 10 ophthalmology programs in India. Last resort you might ask you local Eye MD what is the best second opinion he might value on his case.
