During moderate/sever flare-ups I took prednisone orally, in foam suppository as well as mesalamine orally and through suppository. In moderate flare-ups mesalamine orally w/ mesalamine suppositories.
My question is - beyond the general risk that HSV presents - how additionally risky is this for me? It is a possibility that at some point I will have a flare-up that will require immonusuppressive therapy. If I was to contract HSV could my UC symptoms become more severe?
They are all different names for Mesalamine. So they should all be the same formula and work the same. I know from experience that sometime the brand works better than generics, but thought I would share this information with everyone.

Being how I am getting random muscle aches and hives on my body, and my armpits itch and get hives as well that go away within an hour or two I grew increasingly worried. These symptoms are reported by folks that suffer with IBD as well.
I performed a Oraquick test which came out negative at 5 weeks. Then I went and got a Gen 4 HIV 1 & 2 blood test done on Dec 6th 2017 which came out negative.
Her gastroenterologist started her on Mesalamine (4 capsules daily) and later added prednisone 100 mg enemas to try and get the flare-up under control. Things are getting better and she has some of her strength back. There is one puzzling thing that the doctors are not able to pinpoint. This is an intermittent fever that starts in the afternoon and lasts to the night. In the morning the temperature is back to a low 97 degrees fahrenheit and stays stable until afternoon below 98 degrees.

I have been suffering from chronic ulcerative colitis (UC) over the last twenty years. I’m in control of it and lead almost a normal life. I’m currently on 3 grams of Rafassal (Mesalazine) and 200 mg of Imuran (Azathioprine).
My last colonoscopy revealed multiple areas suspicious of low grade dysplasia (LGD) in sigmoid colon and recotoanal junction. There is also doubt they might be high grade dysplasia (HGD).
My doctor advised that these LGDs be removed.
My recent result of biopsy after the colonoscopy indicates epithelial dysplasia. My doctor just advice me to continue taking the mesalamine (Asacol) Do i need an another urgent medication/treatment for dysplasia? What should be my next move?
What is available? Are there any interactions with boswellia and mesalamine that I should be cautious about? Are there any precastions about its use?
I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
Hi . I am a 20 years old male and was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis 8 month ago. It is proctitis and i'm currently taking 6 tabs and 2 supps of mesalazine daily.. i want to use whey protein or amino acids tab for muscle buliding .. i have asked about it from 6 different doctors and all of them advised me not to use them.. but i realy dont understand why i cant take them.. is it safe to take homemade whey protein ? Why shouldnt i take whey supplement and how can it affect my disease?
What other symptoms are present? Mesalamine or Canasa suppositories works by preventing the production of substances that cause the inflammation of the colon. The usual side effects include diarrhea; dizziness; gas; hair loss; headache; mild stomach discomfort or pain; and nausea. The sour taste could be indirectly related especially if you have other gastrointestinal issues like acid peptic disease or gerd.

If you still have any of the symptoms of any blood at all in your stool you should definitely see a doctor as there is a possiblity of colon cancer. I think I have blood and maybe mucous in my stool and went today though don't have any other symptoms.
1 - You think what my STD doctor told me is reasonable?
2 - Would you suggest any HIV testing to me? I think I am ready to move on if you will not tell me that tested is warranted to me.
3 - You think GE was professional by giving me mesalazine after sigmoidoscopy (when I have been told proctitis I knew nothing about causes)? You think proctitis cannot be related to HIV?
4 - Nodes - Can 2 nodes be related to autoimmune proctitis? Should I get further in analysing my nodes?
Interesting that LDN shows up in IBD treatment! Looks like a serious alternative to the traditional steroids and immunosuppressives and NSAID's. A treatment that doesn't harm the liver.. I'll definitely be looking into this. I don't imagine that "old school" GI's are big fans of LDN however. We'll see. I'm not a big fan of NSAID sides.
She again had colonoscopy and histological examination inferred that it was ulcer. She is being treated with Mesalamine and now she is well. Please check with your doctor.

"Infectious colitides such as Clostridia difficile, hemorrhagic E. coli, Campylobacter, Aeromonas, and Salmonellosis can often present as severe ulcerative colitis. Other infectious pathogens, which also need to be included in the differential diagnoses, include Amebiasis, Shigellosis, Cytomegalovirus, and Rotavirus.
This all occurred after starting a 30 day course of Canasa (Mesalamine) to which I had rash and breathing problems in what seems to have been an allergic reaction and possibly triggered the above problems.
I am now on Claritin (10mg), Lexapro (5mg) and Aciphex which together brought relief to stomach pain within hours.
Cardiologist sees no Eosinophilic infiltration or Loeffler’s.
Repeated Endoscopies show no problems. I am negative for Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis.
Hunter Hendsfield says that immunosuppressants do not delay seroconversion byt doctor on The.Body forum says that it is possible and immunosuppressants may delay seroconversion.
I'm confused...
1.Do you know the opinion other doctors?
2.Maybe only high doses of immunosuppressants delay seroconversion??
3. What's the window period for immunosuppressed persons? 3 months? 6 months? more ??
If it is not effective, then other medications like steroids, mesalamine and bismuth subsalicylate may be tried.

I have Crohn's also. I'm pregnant with my second child and have not had a problem either time. However, my doctors did tell me that if you're Crohn's is under control when you get pregnant, it's likely that your condition will stay the same or get better during pregnancy. If you're having a flare up or the disease is not controlled well when you get pregnant it will likely get worse.
In terms of medication I would trust your doctors here.
Dear doctor,
Since last 10 months I have a slight sense of pain in area just below the right ribs ,feeling of acidity , gases all the times, always i have sticky and semi loose stools. when i beat with hand on the lower right back i get pain in liver area. i always have cracking sounds in stomach 2 hrs after the meal.
i have shown to the doctor 10 months back & he said it is just a acidity problem.
The doctor has also tested cultures for bacteria and viruses and tested a stool sample, and all the tests were negative.
I'm going to see the doctor again soon, but since he hasn't yet been able to determine the cause of my problems, I was wondering if anyone here might have any suggestions for what could be causing them or how they might be treated.
