Avatar f tn What other symptoms are present? Mesalamine or Canasa suppositories works by preventing the production of substances that cause the inflammation of the colon. The usual side effects include diarrhea; dizziness; gas; hair loss; headache; mild stomach discomfort or pain; and nausea. The sour taste could be indirectly related especially if you have other gastrointestinal issues like acid peptic disease or gerd.
Avatar f tn Hi Nicky. I'm sorry about your recent U.C. diagnosis. According to the mfg: "The dosage of Mesalamine 500 mg suppositories (Generic Canasa) is one rectal suppository once daily at bedtime. The suppository should remain inserted for one to three hours or longer, if possible. The normal course of therapy is from three to six weeks depending on symptoms and sigmoidoscopic findings". So the 30 day supply falls within the recommended duration.
Avatar m tn I have read about a study in which Boswellia was used in conjunction with Mesalamine. My gastroenterologist knows notheing about herbs, but is open to information that I can give her. What is available? Are there any interactions with boswellia and mesalamine that I should be cautious about? Are there any precastions about its use?
Avatar m tn They are all different names for Mesalamine. So they should all be the same formula and work the same. I know from experience that sometime the brand works better than generics, but thought I would share this information with everyone.
Avatar f tn Her gastroenterologist started her on Mesalamine (4 capsules daily) and later added prednisone 100 mg enemas to try and get the flare-up under control. Things are getting better and she has some of her strength back. There is one puzzling thing that the doctors are not able to pinpoint. This is an intermittent fever that starts in the afternoon and lasts to the night. In the morning the temperature is back to a low 97 degrees fahrenheit and stays stable until afternoon below 98 degrees.
Avatar f tn My recent result of biopsy after the colonoscopy indicates epithelial dysplasia. My doctor just advice me to continue taking the mesalamine (Asacol) Do i need an another urgent medication/treatment for dysplasia? What should be my next move?
Avatar m tn Not any of those will delay seroconversion.
Avatar f tn Have any of u had to use glycerin suppositories for constipation? If so how horrible is it?
Avatar n tn Hi there, I was diagnosed with sigmoidal colitis in 2005, but I reckon that it went unchecked for about 4 years prior to that. I was initially treated with mesalamine (Asacol) but it had no effect. My GI guy then hit me with prednisone and that knocked it down. I have been on Asacol in a prophylactic capacity since (800mg tid). Does it keep me in remission. Maybe, but maybe it is the tremendous quantities of fentanyl, diacetylmorphine and morphine I abused as well for all I know :P.
Avatar n tn There have been a few cases of liver failure possibly related to the use of mesalamine (the active ingredient in Asacol HD), but I haven't read anything about fatty liver as a side effect. A fatty liver, it takes between 6 months and 2 years to fully reverse. Dr Sandra Cabot's article "Fatty Liver - What Is Fatty Liver And How To Reverse It?
Avatar m tn She again had colonoscopy and histological examination inferred that it was ulcer. She is being treated with Mesalamine and now she is well. Please check with your doctor.
Avatar f tn The periods of remission can last from weeks to years." *** Springer - Mimics of Ulcerative Colitis... "Infectious colitides such as Clostridia difficile, hemorrhagic E. coli, Campylobacter, Aeromonas, and Salmonellosis can often present as severe ulcerative colitis. Other infectious pathogens, which also need to be included in the differential diagnoses, include Amebiasis, Shigellosis, Cytomegalovirus, and Rotavirus.
Avatar f tn Do you mean when on progesterone capsules? Are the suppositories yellow? The progesterone suppository capsules I was prescribed were white and powdery if you opened the capsule, like powdered sugar in appearance. They did give me lots of messy discharge, but it was certainly not yellow -- it was chalky, sticky and white. Maybe there are different types of progesterone suppositories, but the idea of the discharge being yellow and smelling seems very unusual.
Avatar n tn I was put on progesterone suppositories on Jan 21st. I am now 5.5 weeks pregnant. I have 3 children and all pregnancies were healthy, but then had 2 miscarriages last year. No tests were run they just called them in for me over the phone without even seeing me (same doctors office that delivered my 15 month old daughter). I don't see my doctor until feb 21st. I'm so nervous.
299260 tn?1304216105 Good morning :) Well, I was prescribed progesterone suppositories because my luteal phase averages 9-10 days & I've been TTC since February last year. I started taking the progesterone two weeks ago. I'm past my usual luteal phase. It's now 12 DPO & no sign of AF, yet negative pregnancy tests. I usually at least get spotting by 9 DPO, but so far, nothing. Has anyone had experience with progesterone supp. while TTC?
Avatar n tn You should stop taking them if you are using them now. When you begin ttc again you can take them again after ovulation or when u get a positive pregnancy test whichever your dr recommends.
Avatar f tn Anyone using Progesterone suppositories? When did you dr tell you to stop??
651151 tn?1224618087 I forgot to ask my doctor this morning. Can we BD while on the progesterone suppositories? They told me to use 1 in the morning and 1 at bedtime. Is it safe to do so? I was reading someone else's post and they said BD should be between CD11 through CD20. I had 2 IUI's and was just wondering if by doing so I can increase my chances?
Avatar n tn Hi, I am about to do an I.V.F. and my doctor has given me progesterone suppositories to be inserted into rectum three times a day. My question is: If let's say about an hour or so after I insert the suppository I need to go to the bathroom (#2) will the suppository come out and if some of it does would I have to replace it? Also, how far should the suppository be inserted?
419990 tn?1228259126 t seem to do that, but as the two weeks goes on it does, i had to wear a liner.... the suppositories seem to be worse though, than the oral capsules.. i switched back to the oral capsules, and just insert those vaginally, works the same way, but its a smaller capsule, thats what my RE recommended. GOOD LUCK!
