Avatar m tn Maybe you can treat again with one of the many clinical trials or wait till the new drugs are approved next year. I have Crohn's and take Immuran to control it. Yes, treatment can flare it up but, what's the alternative to not even trying. The immuran is hard on the liver. Give thought to trying anther course of treatment if you can.
Avatar n tn During moderate/sever flare-ups I took prednisone orally, in foam suppository as well as mesalamine orally and through suppository. In moderate flare-ups mesalamine orally w/ mesalamine suppositories. My question is - beyond the general risk that HSV presents - how additionally risky is this for me? It is a possibility that at some point I will have a flare-up that will require immonusuppressive therapy. If I was to contract HSV could my UC symptoms become more severe?
Avatar f tn I have Crohn's also. I'm pregnant with my second child and have not had a problem either time. However, my doctors did tell me that if you're Crohn's is under control when you get pregnant, it's likely that your condition will stay the same or get better during pregnancy. If you're having a flare up or the disease is not controlled well when you get pregnant it will likely get worse. In terms of medication I would trust your doctors here.
Avatar m tn She again had colonoscopy and histological examination inferred that it was ulcer. She is being treated with Mesalamine and now she is well. Please check with your doctor.
Avatar f tn Hey Nicky. You're welcome! SCD stands for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, however, don't let the name mislead you, as it has not much to do with carbohydrate intake, but rather the contrary. It's been around for about half a century and has helped the majority of people who have Crohn's,UC, IBS, Cystic Fibrosis, etc. and follow this program to experience improvement.
Avatar m tn Being how I am getting random muscle aches and hives on my body, and my armpits itch and get hives as well that go away within an hour or two I grew increasingly worried. These symptoms are reported by folks that suffer with IBD as well. I performed a Oraquick test which came out negative at 5 weeks. Then I went and got a Gen 4 HIV 1 & 2 blood test done on Dec 6th 2017 which came out negative.
Avatar f tn I really think you need another GI doctor. IBD needs to be treated (and not the way you are currently) and you need a definitive diagnosis as to whether it is Crohn's or ulcerative colitis and the issues in your throat might be an indicator of Crohn's as it can be anywhere in your digestive system. It is important they know your family history. I can't say whether you should take the questran or not. You do need to be on one of the anti-inflammatory drugs I listed.
Avatar f tn Her gastroenterologist started her on Mesalamine (4 capsules daily) and later added prednisone 100 mg enemas to try and get the flare-up under control. Things are getting better and she has some of her strength back. There is one puzzling thing that the doctors are not able to pinpoint. This is an intermittent fever that starts in the afternoon and lasts to the night. In the morning the temperature is back to a low 97 degrees fahrenheit and stays stable until afternoon below 98 degrees.
163305 tn?1333668571 I get terrible leg cramps at night and when I sit for extended periods of time and the doctor told me I have neuropathy and should take this medication for it. I got the med and still have not taken it. A nurse in the family asked me about my water intake. Avatar m tn html I am talking about a girl from Poland who posted here on this forum and on other forums ..
Avatar f tn My recent result of biopsy after the colonoscopy indicates epithelial dysplasia. My doctor just advice me to continue taking the mesalamine (Asacol) Do i need an another urgent medication/treatment for dysplasia? What should be my next move?
Avatar n tn I had Crohn's Disease for 41/2 years and 2 years ago i was also thought to have bilary dyskinesia and at that time I was having a really hard time with my Crohn's and the doctor suggested I have my gallbladded removed to rule out a Crohn's flare since it is an accessory organ and not neccesarily needed....
Avatar m tn What is available? Are there any interactions with boswellia and mesalamine that I should be cautious about? Are there any precastions about its use?
Avatar f tn For the past 3 years, I have been getting recurrent canker sores. They would apprear twice a month. They disappeared only when I was in my secong and third trimester of pregnancy. I did various tests and a colonoscopy to rule out Crohn's disease. I also did the ASCA and ANCA blood tests. My colonsocopy was normal. ANCA was negative but ASCA was positive. I dont have the classic symptoms of Crohn's (diarrhea). is a positive ASCA an indicator of Crohn's?
483733 tn?1326798446 Hi there. I find that the gastroenterology forum is way too busy. If you post a question it has been pushed to another page within hours and then doesn't get answered. I wondered if it might be best to break off a few separate forums with Crohn's and Colitis being one to start with.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am 23 years old and am currently in a flare up that started back in November 2009. I have tried Mesalamine, Prednisone, 6MP, Remicade, and am currently taking Humira and Methotrexate once a week. I feel like my life has been taken away from me. I was studying abroad for a master's degree when the flare up set in and decided to fly home to my parents to get proper health care and support.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm a 31 year old male with Crohn's disease. I have a question regarding the appearance of my anus, and whether this is caused by Crohn's disease. For a while (probably years) I've noticed while cleaning that my anus felt as though it had flaps, or almost lips for a lack of a better term. Recently i decided to take a picture, and this was confirmed. And to my horror, was fairly unattractive. Almost as if my anus is loose or has developed hanging tags.
Avatar m tn Hi, What I can tell you is that it may be related to something like crohn's, ulcerative colitis, etc. I personally have crohn's, and when it flairs up it hurts like hell. I think you may be on the right track, as these things do have to do with ulcers. Also the fact that you are experiencing constipation which you say is a first is also one of the symptoms to crohn's. I would suggest seeing a G.I. Dr and they may want to do a colonoscopy. Here is a link to research more on them.
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been taking melatonin supplements for a couple weeks now. The past couple days I had abnormal looking stools, and I started looking around on the internet and found that melatonin can cause abnormal looking stools, and even sometimes trigger symptoms of Crohn's disease. But what I was wondering is this: when it says that it can trigger symptoms of Crohn's disease does it mean it just "mimics" Crohn's disease?
Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
571928 tn?1217126869 Welcome to the Crohn's Community forum, where our members hope we can give the benefit of our own experiences and emotional support. I am so very sorry to hear of your daughter's current health problems. I have had Crohn's for 38 yrs, diagnosed when I was 24 yrs. As far as I am aware, a CT scan can show evidence of inflammation in the GI tract, but only biopsies, after colonoscopy of the large bowel and/or endoscopy of the small intestine, can definitively give a diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I have been through a lengthy dx for CD. I had a peri-anal fistulotomy with a 6 week seton stitch placement (ouch), followed by several bouts of episcleritis, 70 lb weigh loss, hospitalizations for dehydration and upper rt quad. ab. pain. Even with the weight loss, I am still considered obese at 240 lbs at 5 foot 10. Capsule endoscopy looks good (it took so long to schedule I was asymptomatic at testing), MRI showed no strictures.
Avatar f tn What other symptoms are present? Mesalamine or Canasa suppositories works by preventing the production of substances that cause the inflammation of the colon. The usual side effects include diarrhea; dizziness; gas; hair loss; headache; mild stomach discomfort or pain; and nausea. The sour taste could be indirectly related especially if you have other gastrointestinal issues like acid peptic disease or gerd.
Avatar n tn Please see a rheumatologist because you may have Ankylosing Spondylitis, an autoimmune disease that is often associated with Crohn's. AS is an arthritis-like condition of the spine and can be debilitatingly painful and may result in spinal malformation. The good news is that it is treated with meds that help Crohn's too. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Does Crohn's disease affect an hepatits c antibody test... and if so how long should you wait to be tested after exposure? Exposure was through a sub q needle stick at work... i was wearing gloves and got tested 7 and a half months after it. Negative results but I have had crohn's disease for at least 2-3 years... I am currently taking ASACOL HD 800mg 2 tabs twice a day.. i also have ulcerated colitis... I have ocasional diarrhea nothing to bad.
Avatar n tn I have been a type 1 diabetic since age 10--53 years now. Approximately 30 yrs. ago I started having a lot of bloody diarrhea, etc. It took 2 yrs.+ to clear it up and I went for approximately 20 yrs. without any symptoms. When it started up again I was diagnosed with Crohn's and have been on various treatments since then. I have been taking Asacol for years. I have also used enemas--sometimes daily and sometimes twice a day.
Avatar n tn Dosage should be properly followed and if u are experiencing digestive or renal problems, consult your doctor. Alcohol can increase the chances of a fatty liver and if u feel some type of pain and inflammation in your liver region, then consult your doctor.
