Also are you seeing a RE or plain GYN? 3 years is a long time! What kind of tests have they been doing, or have done? One thing you need to do is start charting your basal body temperature. Look up fertility friend and it has great info and a course you take for free. THey send you each course by email. You can learn alot about your problems and body by doing this yourself. THen also take OPK tests.

If you were on birth control pills, I would say that the bleeding could be from missing a pill or not taking them at the same time every day and your hormone levels fluctuated. Hormone fluctuation or stress could be a cause. There is some chance that fibroids or cancer caused the bleeding, or maybe you were briefly pregnant and miscarried, but it was probably just hormones or stress (mine gets delayed when I am under a lot of stress, then I get it immediately when I relax). Main causes of spotting or bleeding between periods could be due to pregnancy, birth control pills, infection in an area of the body related to menstruation (including the vagina, the cervix and even the bladder). Other causes could be polycystic ovarian syndrome, diseases of pituitary gland, hormonal imbalance of estrogen and progesterone and uterine abnormalities like fibroid and cervical dysplasia.
If less than 60 years old and taking tamoxifen or toremifene, the blood levels of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and estradiol should be in the post-menopausal range.
So for your case, you should have your blood levels for FSH and estradiol tested. If the levels are low enough, you could be considered as post-menopausal.
Hormone levels as in HCG? I'd say no, that's not possible, there is a specific type of blood test (I believe) that you can get done to tell gender, but I don't think insurance covers it, so you'd have had to pay it out of pocket, did you have any issues that would require a specific blood test, or did you request one?
