Hormone levels and hair loss

Common Questions and Answers about Hormone levels and hair loss

hormone

Avatar f tn There have been lots of members with hair loss due to insufficient levels of Free T3 and Free T4. I'd bet my money on that being the cause of your hair loss as well.
Avatar f tn You may even want to consider a short style until at least 6 months postpartum, when estrogen levels return to normal and hair loss is minimized.
Avatar f tn s more common when carrying boys as when testosterone is starting to be produced, it can carry into your own blood and cause hormone imbalances. I never had this problem with my first(girl), and having a boy this time.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had hair loss post tx, like 1 yr. later. I am having alot of hair loss in the past 3 weeks. I am also wondering if it is o.k. to take hair vitamins. Not currently on tx. I take fish oil, garlic, vit D and calcium. I think since I am not on tx. that this is O.K. Am I wrong?
Avatar f tn If it doesn't specifically say free T3 and free T4, or FT3 and FT4, then it is most likely total T3 and total T4 (TT3 and TT4). The totals are just what they say, which is the total amount of T3 and T4 in your blood. Most of this is bound up with protein and thus inactive. The unbound, or free, portions are the biologically active thyroid hormone. Free T3 is the most important because it largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions.
Avatar n tn Even in aging when hormones change naturally - hair loss is prominent. Key is to keep you hormone levels in check and keep the body functioning as normal as possible. Alot of anti aging material is out there that concentrates on adrenal fatigue - thyroid and sex hormone levels to learn how to keep the body in optimal preformance to slow this process down. Reading about hormone balancing in a natural way along with testing for depletions is so important as we age.
Avatar f tn Recognizing and treating an infection may help stop the hair loss. Correcting a hormone imbalance may prevent further hair loss. And to avoid stressful situations if possible. To check if this hormonal or due to underlying problems, blood tests may be done to check your hormone, glucose and even thyroid levels. Discuss this with your doctor to be able to arrive to a definite diagnosis. Take care and do update us.
192918 tn?1199451179 So this is a very silly question - but I'm having A LOT of hair loss....to the point that I'm getting some ugly bald spots (not at all pretty on women!!) When I finally get on the right meds, will my hair grow back or will I always be stuck with bald spots/thin hair?
Avatar f tn My thyroid levels are normal taking armour and still having hair loss. Could it be the medications? I was on all the different thyroid meds. and still had hair loss. Would anyone be able to help?
Avatar n tn I've been treated for hypothyroidism for the past 6-7 years. In November, my endocrinologist said it would not cause any further harm to stop synthroid for 3 months and then recheck levels to see if my hair loss stopped. Unfortunately, my TSH level skyrocketed to 91 and my cholesterol was high as well. So I went back on synthroid (100 mcg). I'm still suffering from hair loss and am become quite concerned/stressed/depressed.
1882966 tn?1320745459 There are many things that can cause hair loss; however, hair loss associated with being hypo, normally stops and hair usually grows back, once thyroid levels are where they need to be. Thyroid related hair loss is not a side effect of the medication; it's a symptom of being hypo. Some people do, however, report that once they begin taking medication, symptoms worsen for a while, as the body adjusts to having hormones its been doing without.
1031264 tn?1318524241 Im recently 9 weeks pregnant.I had some bloodwork done last week for hair loss and she did a TSH and free T4. My TSH was 6.09 and my T4 was .97. She said seems how my T4 was normal there was no need for concern at this time and we would just retest in a few weeks. That my high TSH was just because my pituatary gland was just working extra hard to produce hormone because of the baby. Is this something I should be concerned about and see an endocrinologist about?
Avatar m tn HELP! My hair is falling out at ever-increasing rates. For six months I've been on Tirosint 50 mcg/day b/c of mild allergic reaction to Synthroid (facial puffiness after taking it and mild hair loss) and Levoxyl (worse swelling.) I'm doing great on Tirosint BUT my hair is falling out and I'm developing really thin hair after a lifetime of thick hair. I'm Hashimotos so Armour won't work for me. If this keeps up, I'm going to be bald.
Avatar n tn Treating to normalize thyroid hormone levels and eliminate hypothyroid symptoms results in the suppression of TSH. This is understood as a normal part of treatment once we accept that the thyroid set point has been lowered. This is not an argument to use thyroid hormones to increase metabolism above normal to achieve weight loss.
Avatar n tn D should be at least 50 ng/mL, B12 in the upper end of the range, and ferritin should be at least 100. Hair loss like you mention is likely due to inadequate thyroid hormone levels and also low ferritin. If you want to confirm what I have said, click on my name and then scroll down to my Journal and read at least the one page overview of a paper on Diagnosis and Treatment of Hypothyroidism: A Patient's Perspective.
Avatar n tn to 75mcg.How long will it take for the hair loss to stop and regrowth start?I do not understand why son=me adjustment was not made 8 weeks ago, hair is noticable thin, damage will not be permanet will it? Any suggestions how to permont hair regrowth sooner? All iron levels were good.Is it a fact a true hormone panel cannot be done because I take a very low dose birth control pill? All that has bee tested is testosterone very low.012 and dhea sulfate 30.
Avatar n tn I am in the process of having my cortisol levels checked but the doctor does not feel it necessary to check female hormone levels. I have had a complete hysterectomy 18 years ago and have never taken HRT. At this point the hair on the crown of my head is thinning and I have an extra 20 pounds that will no go away. I eat a very excellent diet with minimal carbs and good carbs if I choose to eat them. I exercise 3 days per week at a local gym for one hour each day. HELP!!!! What can I do?
Avatar m tn It frustrates me that they cant even do the job properly. I still have symptoms eyebrow loss and hair loss with cold hands. Can you tell me what to insist on the next time I get a blood test?
Avatar n tn I agree with your doctor that hair loss is more often a symptom of improperly adjusted FT3 and FT4 levels, not a side effect of the meds.
