Keep a calendar and mark the last day of your menstrual cycle and the day your ovulation test is positive. It will help you know your ovulation day for each cycle and if it varies. Also, if you have not been successful, that calendar will better help you and your doctor with your fertility and treatment if needed.

One of the best ways to understand your ovulation date is to chart or make an Ovulation calendar of your menstrual cycle. You should start with Day 1 as the first day of your period and so on. If you are using the My Cycles app, the pink/red lines on certain dates are when you are on your period. The green lines are when you are expected to be fertile or in other words, when you would likely ovulate.

I had my last period on June 19,2013 that lasted five days and had unprotected sex the 28th of that month and ovulation calendar says i was fertile that day so i didnt think nothing else about it so the next came in and i had sex again on July 11,2013 and my period was due to come on the 17th of this month but show up on the 14th. There are many things that can change a cycle late ovulation,usually caused by stress,change of diet,many things.your cycle is still in normal range.but yes i can see how it effects you trying to concieve.have you tried vitamin B6 this is good for getting your cycle on track,as for trying for 6 months with no success.that is a short time really.can take couples years to concieve.however since your cycle is a bit wacky,i would concentrate on getting that regular first.
I agree with Annie - for this method to be effective, you really need to monitor your menstrual cycle closely and know the signs your body gives you that you're about to ovulate. Otherwise, it is less than 60% effective. And if you happen to have irregular cycles, it is even more difficult to determine when your most fertile time is.
The one I found very helpful was just called "Menstrual Calendar". You could track your period, appointments, which days you have protected and unprotected sex, and it tells you when you're ovulating after you enter how long your cycle is. It worked for me! It also has a "Pregnancy Mode" for when you do get pregnant.
Wait for your expected menstrual cycle and if on the first day you don't get your period, take ONE test. If the test is negative, wait a few more days to see if maybe your period is late. If you're worried, look up the ovulation calendar online, it'll let you know when you were most fertile.

Ovulation calendar is a good method of ovulation tracking and there are success stories of women conceiving using the calendar. However it is necessary that you feed in the data correctly. It is necessary to note that a woman’s fertile window starts about 4 to 5 days before ovulation and ends about 24 to 48 hours after it. Also ovulation is difficult to predict in prolonged and irregular cycles.
Hence if periods are missed a home pregnancy test can be taken.
your due date is based off the first day of your last period not off conception date. you ovulate for about 2-3 days every menstrual cycle. you can get an estimate of what days you could have convinced but the only way to know for sure would be if you knew what day you had sex in those fertile days. for example I was fertile Sept 30- Oct 4. but my ovulation date was on the 4th. We did the the do on Sept 28th and again Oct 3rd. based off my calendar we convinced the 3rd of Oct.
