I don't think Meloxicam is a good choice for anyone , it will ruin your kidney like mine, I was told by a kidney doctor to stop taking them they were ruining my kidneys. I have been taking Meloxicam for years for arthritis. Now I have stage 4 kidney disease. Stage 5 is kidney transplant or dialyses. it's your choice.
If that is what it is used for then it's not working on me, I am trying to detox from methadone, so I can try other pain treatments, and I still have severe withdrawal symptoms.
Every symptom I experienced is listed as a possible side effect yet no doctor has admitted it nor can they tell me what it is. Today is almost 6 months since the incident. The body trembling is down to a tolerable level, my entire abdomen is still covered in dots, and the pain in my side has never left. I have days when it's better than others but it never completely leaves. Has anyone ever had a similar experience? Thanks so much!
I also have high blood pressure and take Ibuprofen (which is like meloxicam as its an NSAID), I was told to drink MORE water so that the Ibuprofen doesn't make the blood pressure worse. Its some sort of chemical thing, a pharmacist told me once. Ever since then, my blood pressure has been so much better. Good luck to you.
8-19-13 I went on 1mg of Klonopin twice a day because I was having panic attacks for about a week. After a couple days, I felt better but it started making me irritable so the Dr. cut be back to .5mgs twice a day. About a month later I started having pain in my big toe then into my ankle. I got x-rays and was diagnosed with degenerative arthritis in my big toe joint and on 9-18-13 I started taking Meloxicam (Mobic).
My non narco drug that I found to work really good for my back pain is called meloxicam I think that's how u spell it it's just the generic of mobic andbis just an NSAID like motrin or naproxen just a good bit stringer is what my doc told me and it works wonders for me so that's another one to try
It's the best medicine I've ever been on n if I skip a day or two you'll find out how much the pill is actually working I have 5 herniated dehydrated bulging discs in my lower back n some in neck I hurt everywhere. N I can tolerate doing house work or walking if I take them. Some days I go 3 or 4 days cuz I'm horrible with medicine but as my pain is heightened that much I'm like did I forget n I take it.
my arthritis pain has been in my larger joints for a few years now but within the last 8 months it has gotten to the point that i cant even braid my hair some days because my hands hurt so bad. i have been on meloxicam for about six months and i take vitamins regularly. since i have been on the meloxicam my bursitis(which i have delt with for fifteen years and no meds) flared up and has not subsided, my body still aches daily and i take vicodin at night so i can sleep which does help.
I also take meloxicam, and tylenol is about the only thing that I know of that can be taken in conjunction with it. You still need to be careful not to take more than the prescribed dosages, though.
I believe there were studies done recently that showed too many people take over the counter tylenol, believing it's safe - too much of it is hard on the liver. Most people really only need one regular strength tylenol, not two extra strength.
Anyway, that got a little off topic.
I have gained a considerable amount of weight will taking Meloxicam. Once I stop taking will the weight come off??
Good that you are getting into a rheumatologist. It is important that they treat the disease and not just the symptoms.
On your first visit take a listing of all drugs, vitamins, supplements, etc. that you take and the dose. Bring a family history of any auto-immune or arthritis issues. Be ready to fully explain all your symptoms (remember skin issues, headaches, memory issues, etc. can be related to arthritis so leave nothing out).
Just wanted to update my own post in case anyone happens across this. I found that the 15 MG Mobic / Meloxicam helped immensely. My chest pain is almost gone - only felt it a few times today. I called the Dr's office and spoke with the nurse and asked her if I could take one in the morning and one at night because it worked great at night, but I started feeling it a little around 1pm (the prescription said 1 with dinner each night).

You've asked a good question - and received some good information. I'll just add a bit.
As you know Meloxicam (Common Brand Name, Mobic) and Ibuprofen are NSAIDs. Each can be effective in reducing pain and inflammation. As with all medications, their effectiveness often depends on an individual's reaction (metabolism).
I have ulcerative colitis for a few years, I been in hospital a couple of times but the last time i was in it was due to the pain killing drug meloxicam for joint pain. I am almost sure celelbrex is in the same family, so to speak, as meloxicam.. I ended up losing the lining of my stomach. I had had a problem with anti flams for a while and i new i couldnt take celebrex as i had terrible cramps in my stomach.
cant even attempt to do a straight leg raise. Finally seen a doctor who take new insurance. Gave me meloxicam claimed tendonitis. 2 months of nothing but meloxicam,rest,electric stim, pool workouts, and massage. I had minimal healing/recovery. I decided to try eccentric strength trainiing as it worked for my hamstring tendon. and its known for achiles tendon. Its been about 3-4 days and i already feel much much better. anyone else had similar issues/advice on this topic?
