Maxalt triptan

Common Questions and Answers about Maxalt triptan

maxalt

Avatar f tn Maxalt really helped my migraines. I had tightness & hoarseness with Imitrex which is a Triptan, but not with Maxalt or another one. I took them for years until 2003 when the migraines stopped.
1981713 tn?1389860165 Really? I dont think Maxalt is a benzo at all. Isnt it a triptan? I wouldnt worry about it.
768044 tn?1294223436 s experiences with migraine medications. This is a poll about what triptan medications the migraine patients on the forum currently use. In the comments section, let us know if you are currently satisfied with your current triptan medication. Feel free to also post a comment explaining what triptans you have tried in the past. What is the current triptan medication you are using for the acute treatment of migraine headaches?
1102283 tn?1257817472 First-line acute migraine medications are triptans. There are currently 7 triptans on the market, plus one triptan that is also mixed with an NSAID called Naproxen. I believe that fast acting triptans are the best in most situations because they work the fastest. Fast acting triptans come in orally disintegrating tablets or nasal sprays. I personally use Zomig Nasal Spray and find it works extremely well. I also have found great success with Maxalt-MLTs.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used Remeron for depression, while taking Maxalt for their migraines? I have migraines about every other day, and take 5mg maxalt for them. I was just given Remeron for depression, as the doc said i cannot take any SSRI's because of serotonin syndrome. I cannot find and interactions for Remeron, but just wondering if anyone else has tried these together. Any info appreciated.
Avatar f tn I had a similar problem with Maxalt (a drug in the same class as Relpax-they are both triptans). My insurance would only cover 12 pills, and I need more. My doctor filled out the necessary paperwork for my insurance co., saying I need more than "typically alotted". The pharmacy division of your insurance co. can give you more info. If that's not possible, have you tried another triptan? Maxalt, Imitrex, and Relpax all work for my migraines. Good luck!
Avatar f tn try a different triptan. imitrex help some. i have added maxalt to my repertoire, and it actually works better then the imitrex. it is worth a shot!
Avatar m tn A really fast acting triptan is best, such as a quick dissolve tablet or a nasal spray. Then, when you feel one coming on or it starts, you can use the medication and stop it from lasting for as long as it usually does. The reason why they started is just because some people get migraines. Someone in your family maybe suffers from migraines... migraine tend to be a genetic neurological disease. But, it's nothing you really have to worry about.
655875 tn?1295695107 My question is, are these rebound headaches from the Maxalt? I use the Maxalt no more then once to twice a week. This could also be sinus headaches too, I'm not 100% sure as I feel pressure in my head also. Is it okay to take the Maxalt 1-2 times a week? I also have a spinal cord nerve injury and I do take the long acting oxycontin every 8 hours for the pain.
1088430 tn?1259159773 Maxalt! Maxalt is a great triptan! I think that the fast acting triptans like Maxalt-MLTs are some of the best. Fast acting triptans are any triptans that are orally disintegrating tablets (like the Maxalt-MLTs) or Nasal Sprays or Injections. I use Zomig Nasal Spray which is another type of fast acting triptan, but Maxalt-MLTs work amazingly too... out of all of the triptans I've tried I think that Maxalt-MLTs and Zomig Nasal Spray have worked much faster than any of the other triptans.
390338 tn?1206462648 m curious why your dr. gave you Frova? Usually the triptans, like Imitrex and Maxalt are very effective and have fewer side effects..
Avatar m tn t give you any other triptan at the hospital usually because sumatriptan by injection is pretty much the best triptan out there!! But, the names of some other triptans are maxalt, axert, zomig (like i take) ... etc. There are lots on the market so if imitrex doesn't work for you, there are more you can try that might work better for you. Are triptans safe? Well, for a normal healthy adult who isn't on any other medications YES they are VERY SAFE!!!
768044 tn?1294223436 In the comments below, let us know if your triptan is a tablet, an orally disintegrating tablet, a nasal spray or an injection, especially if the triptan is Imitrex, Zomig or Maxalt (as these medications come in multiple delivery methods). Feel free to discuss how satisfied you are with your current triptan medication and if you have any specific complaints, compliments or comments about the treatment.
Avatar n tn d suggest trying another triptan. There are lots on the market. I use zomig nasal spray, it works fairly well... not 100%, but, it can stop a lot of my migraines. If zomig doesn't work for you, there are still tons of other triptans on the market.. maxalt... and try different types of delivery methods too. Are you taking tablets. Tablets do NOT work very well AT ALL. Try a triptan in a nasal spray.
591470 tn?1218975186 I have tried stadol, fiorinol, migranal, and triptan? Oxycodone, hydrocodone provide no releive . DHE-45 only gives partial releif. Stadol NS made me rebound even worse. Benzodiazpans didn't even knock me out for migraine releif withthe stadol, Baclofen is not helping.
Avatar f tn I forgot to mention that I take Imitrex for my migrianes and sometimes add Ibupropin. It is best to stop the migraine cycle by taking a triptan drug then you won't keep getting them. There are many types of tryptans and some work on some people and not others Maxalt works better for some people. Excedrine migraine helps my friend too. It is best to get diagnosed though. But you can't take triptans more than 2 days a week.
Avatar f tn I started seeing a neurologist to help get it under control but I have been left frustrated. I am on doc #2. I have been on about every triptan there is, maxalt, topomax, beta blockers, and some high blood pressure med that nearly sent me to the er since I already have low bp. I am now on depakote and back to maxalt with naproxin. my main frustration is that the abortive meds only work about half of the time and my migraines last about 2-3 days.
Avatar n tn I personally use Zomig Nasal Spray and find it works best for me. Another triptan I think is very good is Maxalt-MLTs. Although, you can probably find at least one person who uses one of the seven triptans here on the forums so different triptans work well for different people, ask your girlfriend to speak to her doctor about if triptans are appropriate for her and what the most appropriate triptan would be.
Avatar f tn As for physical dependency... well, I have heard of the triptan Maxalt causing rebound headaches, which could be considered a type of physical dependency maybe... but, out of all of the triptans, the ONLY triptan that has shown this is Maxalt, not Imitrex. So, Imitrex is not a type of medication that you can become dependent on physically. So please don't worry about becoming dependent on the medication!!! Use it when you are in pain if it works!!
Avatar f tn But, since you also experienced unwanted side-effects the last time you took the medication, it may be better to switch to an entirely different triptan. Two of the statistically most effective triptans are Zomig Nasal Spray and Maxalt-MLTs (quick dissolve tablets). You may want to ask your doctor for a prescription for either of these medications.

Avatar f tn Oh on a side note...maxalt is a triptan and is not recommended for migraine patents who have aura because it can increase risk of stroke. It causes vasoconstriction, tightening of the blood vessels. You might want to ask your doctor why he/she says it is okay to be on that? I took my mothers maxalt when I had a migraine and my primary care physicain and my neurologist both scolded me for taking it because of my complicated migraine with aura!
Avatar n tn There are many brands of triptans on the market (Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, Axert... to name a few) but Frovatriptan is different from all of them and is used specifically for menstrual migraines. Frova is the brand name of the medication and Frovatriptan is the generic name of the medication. The way that Frovatriptan works that is different from regular triptans is that a much longer half-life, that means it stays in your body for much longer than the other forms of triptans.
Avatar m tn I am wondering if I went to the ER, is there something else they could do -- could they give me more Imitrex, or another triptan or something else to try to stop it? I don't want opiates. Any thoughts appreciated.
Avatar m tn Triptans are first-line migraine medication and should be tried first unless you have a medical condition that prevents the use of triptans. The most effective triptans are the quick-absorbing triptans, such as Zomig Nasal Spray, Maxalt-MLTs, or Imitrex Injection. Imitrex Injection is rarely used since it is an injection, but Zomig Nasap Spray or Maxalt-MLTs are simple to take and usually work for most people.
