Maxalt topamax

Common Questions and Answers about Maxalt topamax

maxalt

Avatar f tn Hi.....I have both migraines and depression. My neuro doc put me on Topamax (I take it daily) for migraine management and when I do get "breakthrough" migraines I take Maxalt. The Topamax has worked wonders!!! But it isn't without some nasty side effects. Initially it causes your feet, hands and face to tingle (that goes away)....but it plays hell with your memory (not everyone gets this, but I did). It takes away your appetite (at least it did for me).
Avatar f tn I have been off Topamax for approx. 8 months and was wondering if I began to take Topamax again would it help with weight loss or once it has leveled off it will no longer aid in weight loss? I currently take Maxalt for headaches only as needed so the Topamax was only used as an anti-seizure med. Please let me know so that I can discuss this with my neurologist about adding Topamax back into my daily routine. Thank you, any help you could give would be wonderful.
Avatar f tn If you are like me with having BP nothing knocks you out, so the Maxalt will not make you sleepy. Or what about Topamax? There are other dissolvables out there too. I am surprised depakote is not helping, because it is used for migraine treatment. Start that darn magnesium or I am going to find you and kick your behind!!
Avatar f tn you might see if they can put you on a medication in case you have a headache while on the topamax.
Avatar f tn Maybe you should talk to your dr about taking a preventative medicine for your migraines. I take Topamax daily for mine. Like you I especially have menstrual migraines. That's pretty common.
Avatar f tn Hi, I would suggest you to discuss with your doctor if Topamax will be suitable for you. Topamax has proved to be very effective for migraine prophylaxis. Recent studies have shown that Topamax is very effective for reducing the frequency and severity of migraines. http://www.*************.com/migraine/medications/topamax.html http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/topamax-migraine.html Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn By the time I got there she was having seizures and the doctor gave her Maxalt and had called an ambulance. The hospital did numerous tests; blood, urine, CT scan, spinal tap. They couldn't find anything wrong and sent her to a neorologist. He put her on Maxalt and Topomax and ordered an MRI and a sleep deprived EEG. They both came back clear. Three days later she was in the hospital with another migraine and seizures.
Avatar n tn They tried to give her courses of maxalt and topamax to break the cycle of headaches and also treat it with the topamax. NOTHING has worked. Two days ago they sent her home. She is now taking the medication given to cancer patients to control the pain. It also is NOT working. She has a bulging disk in her upper neck as a result of a car crash about 10 years ago. Could this be contributing to this new development that started right after she began attending college 7 years ago.
Avatar f tn ve had a headache that put me in bed every week, usually Sunday through Wednesday. I have taken Norontan and Amitryptiline; both had negative affects. Maxalt does me no good. Feverfew and other herbs like that were not recommended for grown women. I take nettle tea. Alieve seems to be the only drug that helps. My doctor said that atmosphere can have a lot to do with it--and advised me to relocate. Is there anything else that works which I could take?
1524673 tn?1327841500 I can no longer take triptians, no maxalt, Ematrex ect... as these types of meds will make the bleeding in my brain worse. I have been on them for 10+ years. I am still on Topamax and other meds. There is a long story befind this which I can not share right now. What I wanted to share is this, for anyone who has been diagnosed with complicated migraine, has numbness, vision impairment, weakness, speach problems, on one side of your body, please get re-checked.
Avatar f tn We have had a negative MRI/MRA, spinal tap and blood work was ok with just WBC and platelets elevated. We started with 5 mg of maxalt, naproxen, compazine, zofran, toradol and phenergan injections. No ease of pain or symptoms! Spinal tap last Wednesday and that night, again severe headache, nausea, and vomiting. We were admitted to the hospital and given IV decadron, depakote, compazine, toradol, and Benadryl.
Avatar f tn I had been on Topamax for almost three years. Suddenly in end of January my headaches came back. I was weaned off of the Topomax to Amitryptaline 100mg at night to prevent the headaches. It was also noted that I had an AVM on the left periatal lobe of the brain in addition to a cavernous hemangioma on the right frontal lobe. My headaches have continued despite the increase of Amitryptaline. Last night I had such a terrible headache I could not sleep.
Avatar f tn Since the middle of March till now, she has only been in school for 8 days due to these. When they start, they stay for 3-4 days. She is on 25 mg. Topamax in the AM and 50 at night. We have also tried Imitrix pills, Advert pills and Butalbital/Apap/Caffine/Plus, none of which take it away, as I've said they last 3-4 days. Is there anything else I can do? I've been tracking everything from weather to foods eaten to her moods, activites and where and what she is around.
591470 tn?1218975186 I have chari malformation which is a birth defect that causes migraines and I have tried all of the above also... I take topamax nightly and morphine slow release 4 x day.. if the migraine get to the point I can't take it...off to the ER for Delotten, which is very strong but will usually knock it out... I was hospitalized last September for seven days with a migraine and basically comatose before they could get rid of it... Have they tried toradol yet? that might help at home...
618913 tn?1234747600 Hi, I don't know if anyone has any advice. I have had a headaches since last Friday (off and on) They got worse on Wednesday with really bad nausea and I had to go into my neurologist and he gave me an IV treatment. They gave me extra pain meds and nausea meds and said I'd feel like I was punched in the head the next day but that the IV treatment was successful. I felt that way the next day but I still have remnant headaches. Today I'm even sound sensitive.
Avatar f tn Hello! I have been a LONG time migraine and chronic tension headache sufferer. I have never had any form of medical treatment since each doctor I went to seemed to blow me off. This caused me to "self" medicate using a combo of over the counter meds like Excedrine and Tylenols. I ended up suffering from "Medication Overuse Headache". I am currently doing a sort of "detox" from all pain meds and headache inducing foods.
468973 tn?1212323520 Just curious where to begin. I've been going through a world of medical issues over the past 8 months. I'm currently taking Topamax 50mg 1x daily at bedtime, Lexapro 20 mg 1x daily also at bedtime, Maxalt MLT 10 mg when needed (not often). For the past month soda has been tasting flat to me. I've stopped drinking it all together and switched to Gatorage and Lipton Green Tea. My throat always seems dry and my tongue seems dry even though to touch, it is not.
Avatar f tn MRI done. Clean. Put me on Topamax. He is increasing my Topamax by one pill a week for 4 weeks so by the end of those 4 weeks I will be takinng 4 pills a day. No relief. He says they are rebound headaches. I doubt this. So he has one more week to figure this out because I am at the end of my rope. I need some advice PLEASE!
Avatar f tn t mean to interrupt but I am actually a pharmacist and thought I could clarify the maxalt questions.... Maxalt is not a beta blocker. It is a 5HT1B receptor agonist. Basically it's a triptan drug that is used for vascular migraines. Vascular migraines cause vasodilation of blood vessels and that dilation causes pain. Triptan drugs cause vasoconstriction of those blood vessels and thus reduced the pain caused by pressure.
Avatar n tn I have been seeing a neurologist and I had a MRI done and a sleep study done, my doctor stated everything seems normal. He has just increased my dosage of topamax to 6 a day. First off, I did not want to take more medications but it has cut down my headaches to instead of 24 hrs a day to about 12 hours a day. I am still having headaches every day. I am in extreme amounts of pain every day.
549637 tn?1316705828 HI.....I've been taking Topomax for several years for migraines, I take 200mg a day and yes, it can have the side effects you describe! Your doc needs to listen to you!!! Docs don't know it all despite what they think. Only you know how you are feeling. If you have the ability, find another doc. What do you take for a migraine outburst? I take Maxalt. I too am pretty much " med resistant" when it comes to ADs. Don't let a doc tell you that that is impossible.
1088430 tn?1259159773 Maxalt! Maxalt is a great triptan! I think that the fast acting triptans like Maxalt-MLTs are some of the best. Fast acting triptans are any triptans that are orally disintegrating tablets (like the Maxalt-MLTs) or Nasal Sprays or Injections. I use Zomig Nasal Spray which is another type of fast acting triptan, but Maxalt-MLTs work amazingly too... out of all of the triptans I've tried I think that Maxalt-MLTs and Zomig Nasal Spray have worked much faster than any of the other triptans.
Avatar n tn I'm still in high school and i suffer from "classical migraines" as my physician puts it. i've been back and forth with him for years since fifth grade when i first figured out i had a problem cause i couldn't help but cry myself to sleep everyday in pain.
Avatar f tn Shooting pain in the left eye, one-sided migraine on left side, I have formally been diagnosed with a Scintillating scotoma aura with classic migraine as well as the speech impairments during migraine, however Topamax, Maxalt, Imitrex, etc.. have never worked for me. I often have tingling sensations in my feet. I have irritability more so than I used to and have bouts of the inability to make a decision. I can spend hours in the meat section at WalMart deciding what meat to buy. Simple as that..
1130095 tn?1267369259 Ask your doctor about Topamax. I had daily headaches for years and this is the only thing that has helped. What most likely is happening is your pain is causing the headaches but the pills or some of the pills your taking are causing "rebound headaches" a lot of pain medications do that. I didn't know that for years and I was suffering. Diclofenac comes in a topical form, if that helps see if the doctor will give it to you that way.
