Maxalt pill

Common Questions and Answers about Maxalt pill

maxalt

Avatar f tn t mean to interrupt but I am actually a pharmacist and thought I could clarify the maxalt questions.... Maxalt is not a beta blocker. It is a 5HT1B receptor agonist. Basically it's a triptan drug that is used for vascular migraines. Vascular migraines cause vasodilation of blood vessels and that dilation causes pain. Triptan drugs cause vasoconstriction of those blood vessels and thus reduced the pain caused by pressure.
1817265 tn?1317302747 I also suffer from migraines & used to take Maxalt. When I was pregnant with my 1st, the dr prescribed Imitrex & I've been taking it since. I take 1/2 a pill & if it doesn't work (which it does most of the time), then I take the other half. You are supposed to take it at the onset of a migraine otherwise it gets so bad that the meds are not as effective. Talk to your dr ASAP! And congratulations on your blessing!!!
Avatar f tn I have never had any visual problems caused from my migraines until this morning which frightned the life out of me. My doctor has put me on a form of the mini pill to try and stop my periods hoping that my migraines and other symptoms may improve I have been taking the pill for 5 days now.
1030950 tn?1261010513 Hey there, Maxalt shouldn't cause rebound headaches, BUT it is true that you can only take 2 doses every 24 hours. So, never take more than two doses in 24 hours and never take more then 2 doses for the SAME migraine. OTC medications such as Ibuprofen (advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) are much more likely to cause rebound headaches than triptans such as Maxalt.
Avatar m tn She proclaims that she diluted and injected her migraine medicine (Maxalt) because she keeps throwing it up. Her symptoms, however, where those of an opiate overdose....blue hands and face, low respiration, eyes rolling backwards, staggering, tremoring arms upon waking up, disorientation, etc. Does anyone know what the side effects would be of injecting maxalt? I find this impossible to believe that it would knock her out and turn her blue.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn I had other triggers like stress, fluorescent lights, flickering lights, etc. My gyno tried me on pill after pill and I would always have a headache, every day. Not a migraine, though those did increase. I finally gave in and went on Topamax. The migraines stopped. I did have side effects and had to stop it. I had kidney stones, twitching, tingling, cognitive function difficulties, and weight loss. I am 5'8 and I lost down to 120 lbs. For me, that was too thin.
655875 tn?1295695107 My question is, are these rebound headaches from the Maxalt? I use the Maxalt no more then once to twice a week. This could also be sinus headaches too, I'm not 100% sure as I feel pressure in my head also. Is it okay to take the Maxalt 1-2 times a week? I also have a spinal cord nerve injury and I do take the long acting oxycontin every 8 hours for the pain.
Avatar n tn They have been increasing in quantity and severity until about a year and a half ago I had to stop working completely. I am on a combination of darvacet, tramadol, topomax and maxalt. The combination leaves me in bed about 18 hours a day. I have had two MRIs. One with contrast and one without. Neither shows any good reason for my pain. The headache never goes away and I have no idea what makes it hit so hard every few days (room blacked out and crawling to the bathroom). Am I the only one.
655875 tn?1295695107 My friend had called me and I told her that I was too sick to talk and that I had run out of my Maxalt. My friend is a life saver! When she got off of work, she picked up my Maxalt and brought it to me. She also brought me some hot dogs, chips and pop because I had nothing to eat in the house. Hubby left on Wednsday and took the kids up to the cabin, so I've been here alone. I thought that was extremely nice of my friend to go and do that for me.
Avatar f tn When I was having frequent migraines and my insurance would only pay for one refill of Maxalt each month, I obtained prescriptions for both Maxalt and Relpax and filled both each month. They worked equally well for me.
Avatar f tn Yes, definelty read as much as you can about all the medicines he is taking!!!! I am on Oxycodone, Maxalt, Propranolol, Cymbalta and Ambien. Through my OWN research on these medicines, I found that I should not mix any of them together....but yet, My Dr. nor the Pharmacy told me it was dangerous so at first, I was....I could have died. Luckily, I only take the Maxalt as needed for Migraines and I always take my last pain pill a few hours before bed...
Avatar f tn I also get migraines. have you paid attention to any of the known migraine "triggers" like red wiine & chocolate, hard cheeses etc. You probably have but I thought I'd mention it. Like the others, I take Maxalt for mine & it always works. Maxalt is from the migraine interrupter family & also includes imetrix & Zomig. Good luck - it sounds very difficult.
Avatar n tn i took 2 maxalt on saturday for a migraine, it didnt help at all, actually made it worse making me vomit for 3 days and today is friday, 6 days later and i still feel like, tired, weak, foggy, not hungry, cant really go to the bathroom even though i feel like i have to. is this gonna go away?
Avatar m tn Thanks i'll try it out..just didn't want to have to resort to pill/painkillers or stuff like that.i got these pills recently called Maxalt not sure how they work I woke up with a migrane couple days ago . took one and eventually fell back asleep woke up and was fine..so these pills seem to help when the pain gets bad.thanks for your help DrNoopurMD i love this site.
Avatar f tn My first 2pregnacys they also gave me vicoden for when migranes were unbearable. This pregnancy my Dr told me I could also take maxalt( I was told w my first 2 that maxalt was not safe AT ALL) after doing some research I decided against maxalt but am continuing firocet.
Avatar f tn With that said - has the doc spoken about being on the pill? The pill may help delay the growth and return of these issues a bit. It delayed mine from returning for about 2yrs which was quite a stretch. I hope to become pregnant this year - don't know if it's possible but time is on your side. I also have a close friend who became pregnant (now has 2 boys) with HALF of an ovary!
Avatar f tn Maxalt rocks. I love it and carry it everywhere with me. www.maxalt.com Another new med www.relpax.com (I have some, just not had a headache lately to use them) because I take my magnesium :0-). Here is a good site with migraine info. http://www.achenet.org/ And you need to get your migraine "bible" I got mine off of half.com cheap. This book helped me a lot in understanding my headaches and lots of good info.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm 17 and I was diagnosed with migraines when I was 7. I've been getting them almost daily since that summer. Although with each new pill they put me on it stopped for a while. I was on midrin for a long while but I got used to it and started to max out and had the aide of other pills. I was put on Maxalt and it stopped working in a couple of months and I often time had to mix it with other pills.
1088430 tn?1259159773 Maxalt! Maxalt is a great triptan! I think that the fast acting triptans like Maxalt-MLTs are some of the best. Fast acting triptans are any triptans that are orally disintegrating tablets (like the Maxalt-MLTs) or Nasal Sprays or Injections. I use Zomig Nasal Spray which is another type of fast acting triptan, but Maxalt-MLTs work amazingly too... out of all of the triptans I've tried I think that Maxalt-MLTs and Zomig Nasal Spray have worked much faster than any of the other triptans.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used Remeron for depression, while taking Maxalt for their migraines? I have migraines about every other day, and take 5mg maxalt for them. I was just given Remeron for depression, as the doc said i cannot take any SSRI's because of serotonin syndrome. I cannot find and interactions for Remeron, but just wondering if anyone else has tried these together. Any info appreciated.
Avatar f tn It is an excellent pain pill, but if you take it more than two times in a week, you risk severe rebound migraines. That's the only reason I can think of besides it being a narcotic. But you probably need a narcotic, so I agree to look for a neurologist who specializes in headaches. These days, regular doctors are being monitored and penalized for prescribing pain pills. That's probably the real reason.
Avatar f tn It took away the headache, however, I have to drive a lot for work and it made me very drowsy and dizzy, and each day I needed more Fioricet to control the headache (started with 1 pill per day, on day 7 was taking 1 pill every 4-5 hours). So, I stopped the Fioricet, and ended up in the ER again a few days later after spending the night curled up in a ball with a horrific headache and vomiting several times. 1. Do I have migranes?
Avatar f tn Hello! I am 34 years old for the past 2 years I have been getting nausea with constant headache for 6 days before my period. It's to the point where I'm on zofran and have maxalt for headache. I can't leave my house because I feel like I'm going to vomit but I don't. I guess that's a good thing, lol zofran works. Once I get my period it goes away! Anyone experience this or have any feedback thank you!!!
Avatar m tn or triptans are a class of medication and examples of triptans are sumatriptan (brand name imitrex), zomig, maxalt, axert... well those are just to name a few. And yes, they are migraine medication and you take them at the first signs of the migraine, the SS, and it will stop the SS as long as you take it at the very first signs that it is starting. You can get it prescribed by a neurologist or your family doctor. It is better to go to a neurologist instead of an eye doctor. But...
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response because today my therapist was asking me to explain what the difference was between using Stadol, delauidid 2 Mg. pill every 4 hurs, or Oppan 5 mg. pills every 4 hours was and which one had the worst side effects and why I liked the Stadol better so I told her first I treat my headache with 2 extra strength tylenol, and then Maxalt Melt tablets and then 2 mg.
