Common Questions and Answers about Maxalt and ssris

maxalt

Avatar f tn I have migraines about every other day, and take 5mg maxalt for them. I was just given Remeron for depression, as the doc said i cannot take any SSRI's because of serotonin syndrome. I cannot find and interactions for Remeron, but just wondering if anyone else has tried these together. Any info appreciated.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn m going to assume the later). Maxalt is available in a regular tablet form and an oral dissentigrating (ODT) form. The regular tablet form is now available in generic and is fairly cheap. If you received the brand name only ODT version then I would make sure the MD writes for only generic drugs and ask the pharmacist (who should have mentioned it came in generic in a different formulation) if there is something similar that the MD can change it to before you pay a lot for a RX.
Avatar f tn Still no relief! Finally, I took my Maxalt and low and behold the pain started to ease. I fell asleep thinking "Yes! Finally, the pain will be gone". I woke up from my nap and I'll be damned if my neck isn't just as stiff as before and my head is pounding. WTF! Is this a reaction to the Celexa?? How much longer will it take before the side effects go away?
Avatar f tn Also, my symtoms don't exactly match the standard either, but after going to a Headache clinic I was confirmed as having migraines-the pain is on either the left or right front of my forehead never goes beyond the ears and can be a real pain unless I catch them at the beginning, if wake up with "full blown" it becomes a race btw the Maxalt and the migraine, I have had anywhere from 15-18 per month, also have to use strong coffee and ice pack or it's just a waste of the Maxalt a
1125820 tn?1265284446 I personally use Zomig Nasal Spray and find it works extremely well. I also have found great success with Maxalt-MLTs. Statistically, compared to the other triptans, Imitrex Injection, Zomig Nasal Spray and Maxalt-MLTs have the highest success rates for total pain relief in the shortest amount of time.
Avatar f tn I went to the neurologist yesterdayand they have now ordered and MRI brain scan set for 3:30 this afternoon. They also gave me nortryptaline and maxalt to take instead of the fioricet that I've been taking. The maxalt worked right away, but I did wake up later on last night with a headache again. I go back to the neurologist next month for a follow-up.
Avatar m tn ve been in recovery for ten years, andas long as iIhad someone to hold my hand, support me and my habit and agree when the world was against me, why clean up. Again, great advice and good luck. I know you love them but this is best. At the rate your currently going, you'll love her into the ground, where my brother is. (I know that is harsh but it's the awful truth of addiction. Jails, institutions, and death.
Avatar f tn I am only 10 weeks pregnant and fear its going to get worse. I am thinking of taking an SSRI and would appreciate any information on it.
Avatar f tn The development of a potentially life-threatening serotonin syndrome may occur with use of tramadol products, including ULTRAM ER, particularly with concomitant use of serotonergic drugs such as SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, MAOIs and triptans, with drugs which impair metabolism of serotonin (including MAOIs) and with drugs which impair metabolism of tramadol (CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 inhibitors). This may occur within the recommended dose. (See CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY-Pharmacokinetics).
Avatar n tn If your Doctor is aware of the potential side effects of Tramadol and Maxalt and you are being closely monitored, then I apologize for alarming you. If not, you definitely need to talk to him/her about it. Should you decide to discontinue one of these drugs before speaking with your Doctor, the Maxalt would be the one. Don't stop taking the Tramadol. It has to be tapered down.
655875 tn?1295695107 My friend had called me and I told her that I was too sick to talk and that I had run out of my Maxalt. My friend is a life saver! When she got off of work, she picked up my Maxalt and brought it to me. She also brought me some hot dogs, chips and pop because I had nothing to eat in the house. Hubby left on Wednsday and took the kids up to the cabin, so I've been here alone. I thought that was extremely nice of my friend to go and do that for me.
Avatar f tn When I was having frequent migraines and my insurance would only pay for one refill of Maxalt each month, I obtained prescriptions for both Maxalt and Relpax and filled both each month. They worked equally well for me.
Avatar m tn My psychiatrist has tried me on four of the SSRIs and of the four, Celexa and Zoloft have both proved to quiet down the panic and my awareness of my ectopic beats, which in its turn led to a reduction of these beats. Of the two drugs, Zoloft is my favorite. Everyone's response is different, and I found that Lexapro and Paxil increased my anxiety, and thus were not appropriate for me.
Avatar n tn The first time I took Maxalt-Mlt it made me a bit dizzy. Also my nose and fingers got very cold. However I didn't experience vomiting so I would call your doctor asap about that. Another thing, you can only take two of those within a 24 hour period. If the first one didn't work, wait two hours then take another. Pls call your doctor regarding this. Keep us updated pls.
Avatar f tn SSRIs are not recommended for anyone with thyroid problems. It affects your hormone levels. I don't know if there is more toit than that. I have had two Endos and my family doctor all tell me I could not take SSRIs.
Avatar f tn I'm now 20 weeks pregnant and suffer from migraines and daily tension headaches. I get them daily. I was prescribed Fioricet, but everything I've read scares me. I had a friend who took them almost daily due to hormonal headaches which increased with pregnancy and her baby is healthy.
Avatar f tn Maxalt rocks. I love it and carry it everywhere with me. www.maxalt.com Another new med www.relpax.com (I have some, just not had a headache lately to use them) because I take my magnesium :0-). Here is a good site with migraine info. http://www.achenet.org/ And you need to get your migraine "bible" I got mine off of half.com cheap. This book helped me a lot in understanding my headaches and lots of good info.
Avatar f tn Hi jcovaliu, Lots of us here on the forum suffer from chronic migraines, so we can really sympathize with you. Many of us have tried multiple preventative medications before finding the right preventative medication that worked for us. The Elatrolet you are taking is a preventative medication, it's generic name is Amitriptyline.
19745875 tn?1483638911 I have a shrink, and I always recommend a psychiatrist to treat this kind of thing, because these people are MDs with a special knowledge of the biochemistry of drugs and their effects on both the mind and body. It is highly specialized experience, and for this reason, I would not suggest going to a general practitioner. In my case, my shrink tried me on four (or maybe five?) SSRIs before finding the perfect one, which, for me was Zoloft.
1577473 tn?1296177286 I saw the doctor for the first appt and she put me on Zonisamide as a migraine preventative and Maxalt-MLT 10 mg as a rescue medication as well as ordering some labs, an MRI and an MRA. All tests came back normal. The Maxalt worked well when I got the migraines but insurance wasn't too happy with it so we had to switch. She then put me on Relpax which didn't work at all. The Zonisamide gave me some pretty intense heart palpitations so I was switched to Topomax.
1503221 tn?1289584463 I went online also to look up the orgasm thing and learned that antidepressants (SSRIs) will definitely do that to a person. Now my question is, what can I take that will help my depression without taking away my sex life? My husband and I are trying to recover from a 2 year "rough patch" in our relationship and we now have a more frequent sex life, at least once a day, maybe more and it is very very frustrating to have that kind of relationship and not get everything out of it.
Avatar f tn Actually, I think Tylenol and ibuprofen are mentioned -- I believe ssris warn of possible bleeding and bruising from nsaids, and both of the above are nsaids. I doubt it stops any of us from using them, but drugs are always going to present possible problems, and docs and pharmacists are pretty clueless about them. There's just too many of them, and most only happen to a minority of users, sometimes a small minority.
Avatar m tn Celexa is one of the SSRIs, of which there are quite a few, and they all have slightly different effects for different people. My shrink has tried me on five SSRIs for panic plus PVCs. Celexa was one of them, and it worked quite well for me; that is, it is an SSRI that I found very calming. Boy, did I sleep well on that one! I'd recommend trying Celexa (there is a newer version called Zoloft).
