Hi.....I have both migraines and depression. My neuro doc put me on Topamax (I take it daily) for migraine management and when I do get "breakthrough" migraines I take Maxalt. The Topamax has worked wonders!!! But it isn't without some nasty side effects. Initially it causes your feet, hands and face to tingle (that goes away)....but it plays hell with your memory (not everyone gets this, but I did). It takes away your appetite (at least it did for me).

ve been also taking percocet in place of the maxalt, but it does not work as well for the headaches. Is there something I can do to try and prevent these migraines? Are there other natural alternatives rather then medication?

does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. I have migraines about every other day, and take 5mg maxalt for them. I was just given Remeron for depression, as the doc said i cannot take any SSRI's because of serotonin syndrome. Pain is in my nose, temples and contiunes to the back of the neck. I try tylenol, motrin combined wtih a sinus reliever and that only makes me sick to my stomach. After a few days with the pain on one side it will fade and go away then come back on the opposite side for another few days always the same type of pain.

Also, my symtoms don't exactly match the standard either, but after going to a Headache clinic I was confirmed as having migraines-the pain is on either the left or right front of my forehead never goes beyond the ears and can be a real pain unless I catch them at the beginning, if wake up with "full blown" it becomes a race btw the Maxalt and the migraine, I have had anywhere from 15-18 per month, also have to use strong coffee and ice pack or it's just a waste of the Maxalt a

I went to the neurologist yesterdayand they have now ordered and MRI brain scan set for 3:30 this afternoon. They also gave me nortryptaline and maxalt to take instead of the fioricet that I've been taking. The maxalt worked right away, but I did wake up later on last night with a headache again. I go back to the neurologist next month for a follow-up.

If your Doctor is aware of the potential side effects of Tramadol and Maxalt and you are being closely monitored, then I apologize for alarming you. My friend had called me and I told her that I was too sick to talk and that I had run out of my Maxalt. My friend is a life saver! Hi im not sure about motrin but can tell you that for a while i was taking tylonolpms to sleep but they caused heart arythmias and a friend here told me to stop taking them as i dident know they were the cause and from the time i stoped useing them the heart arythmias stoped so im not saying the moltrin is the cause but yes that could be the cause but you should see your cardiologist to rule out another cause.

All tests came back normal. The Maxalt worked well when I got the migraines but insurance wasn't too happy with it so we had to switch. She then put me on Relpax which didn't work at all. The Zonisamide gave me some pretty intense heart palpitations so I was switched to Topomax.

Migraine usually presents with other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound. Rest, pain medication and ice pack may help. Take care and do keep us posted.

Hey there, Maxalt shouldn't cause rebound headaches, BUT it is true that you can only take 2 doses every 24 hours. So, never take more than two doses in 24 hours and never take more then 2 doses for the SAME migraine. OTC medications such as Ibuprofen (advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) are much more likely to cause rebound headaches than triptans such as Maxalt.
