Lovenox blood thinner

Common Questions and Answers about Lovenox blood thinner

lovenox

Avatar n tn I take a shot of Lovenox and an aspirin every day because of a blood mutation I have that sends clots to the fetus and that causes pre eclampsia. I know i will have to stop taking it before my C-section. Does anyone know when usually they ask you to stop it. I am at 34 weeks and go back at 35 weeks to my Dr. and that is when I will run out of my shots. However he has not scheduled my C-section until 39 weeks.
Avatar f tn So, I'm due in September but I have to take lovenox shots for large blood clots in my lungs. Today my doctor decided that I will be induced when the time comes, so that the situation can be controlled. Has anyone dealt with this situation?
1417531 tn?1365597725 I was recently told I have a vitamin K deficiency and suggested that once a FET is successful with the first beta results, I would need to be on a blood thinner more agressive than the baby aspirin regimn prescribed last time which was successful until week 6 when I miscarried... I'm nervous about taking a blood thinner- seems more risky than need... any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn Has anybody used the blood thinner lovenox? My doctor put me on it for the whole pregnancy. I just forbid out I was carrying 4 days ago. I'm very nervous because I've had 3 miscarriages before this.
Avatar f tn I've taken lovenox with my last two pregnancies(am pregnant and on it now) and there are no blood tests needed. It's a really really good blood thinner with virtually no side effects. As long as you pinch up enough fat, you shouldn't feel the needles all that much. The drug doesn't cross the placenta so it does no harm at all to the baby.
Avatar f tn I don't think the lovenox would cause any of that, since it's just a blood thinner. The symptoms you're describing are most likely caused by hormones, but 3dpo is probably a bit early for pregnancy symptoms. Were you on any fertility meds this month?
Avatar f tn Women with history of blood clotting issues are often prescribed blood thinner shots as a safety precaution and go on to have a successful pregnancy. Hang in there.
513660 tn?1217171919 That said, though, I have Factor V, and will have to take Lovenox once I get pregnant again...but for now, I just take a baby aspirin every day. Since Lovenox is a blood thinner, there i a risk of hemorrhage, so it really just depends on how easily your blood clots. Best of luck to you, and welcome to the forum!
287479 tn?1272730364 Also, if you have a clotting disorder, the clots would pose more harm to the fetus than Lovenox would.....You need to have sufficient blood flow to the placenta in order to support a pregnancy.
598654 tn?1330217159 With both of my pregnancies, I had to give myself shots 2 times a day of Lovenox (a blood thinner, stronger than heparin) and my blood thickness was closely monitored (blood draw a few times a week until the dosage was right). I did that until the day I had my baby and then I was on coumadin for 6 weeks after having both (then I was weened off of all blood thinners).
7552771 tn?1469929649 If its too high they'd put you on a blood thinner like lovenox to reduce your risk of developing clots. Slightly elevated can still be considered normal though as long as it doesn't keep trending upwards.. And if it was too high it would be harmful to you before it's harmful to baby.
1569985 tn?1328247482 Also, how long until the blood thinner gets back up to therapeutic levels and am I at any additional risk of blood clots by abruptly stopping the Warfarin? Also, I have sleep apnea, so being put out makes me nervous. I know I have to just leave it in their hands, but the "experts" don't much sound like they know what they're doing, i.e., the Warfarin issue:P Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn Im 18 weeks, my dr just called this morning saying my bloodwork has shown I should be on lovenox shots once a day. I do not want to be on these shots and have my baby have some wierd side effect because of them. Im pretty holistic and am already on an low dose asprin (which I dont like taking) a day and they still want me to do this. Ive done lots of research but still im torn between following my intuition and following drs orders.
585875 tn?1323654505 Hi Ingy! I won't be on heparin, but on lovenox (also a blood thinner), since I have Factor V. I think my RE wants me to start after retrieval...but not 100% sure.
Avatar n tn i found out that i have to get blood thinner shots in my stomach because i have a blood clotting disease called anticardiociphin and i was wanting to know if anyone knew if this would cause the baby to have birthdefects or still born?
Avatar f tn Thanks again for the re-assurance! I seen a hematologist today because i have thick blood- Factor 5, it's called. Which causes blood clots easily. He said the blood clot came from my leg. The Neurologist said that the blood clot happened because I have a PFO, thick blood and at the time was on birth control, which put me off balance, thus the blood clot going through my PFO and into my brain.
270512 tn?1333177636 With my last pregnancy (which was a possible molar pregnancy) I took a baby aspirin a day for a blood thinner and they also put me on folnate (extra folic acid and b vitamins). My doctors do not want to put me on Heparin when I become pregnant again...Have you had a m/c before? To be honest the MTHFR thing is hard to explain partly b/c I don't understand it that well myself. It has to do with the way your body can absorb folic acid and b vitamins.
193609 tn?1292180293 My biggest fear is that there would be complications and I will have been on a blood thinner....for example...I went into labor at 29 weeks and then again 4 days later....if this was to happen the second time around, I would not have stopped taking the anti-coagulant 24 hours prior to the birth ( have to have c section because my incision is twice as long as most peoples). I ended up having an emergency c-section because the cord was around my son's neck 6 times.
330481 tn?1309488243 You said you have the exact daignosis. Can you explain which you have? Which MTHFR do you have? Do you have the PAI-? You mentioned your Dr put you on it 6 weeks prior. Can I ask why? My Dr said not until i am confirmed pregnant & that is from a homotoligist. Blood thinner can be dangerous. I am on baby aspirin (Forever) along with the folbic acid. Science teacher..let me know which one you have when you find out.
7454812 tn?1391877431 Is anyone else having to take the Lovenox shot everyday. if so what areas do you take it? I usually take it 2-3 inches from my belly button but its sore there now?! Im wondering if I move closer towards my back if it makes a difference?!
Avatar n tn Hi there. Went today for my 31 week appt and my ob had mentioned that we switch from lovenox to heparin at about 36 weeks. I'm on lovenox for factor 5 with history of a blood clot. She also then recommended induction at 39 weeks.... the heparin would be a good idea if an epidural was needed/wanted but it's more cost and twice a day rather than once. I'm really focused on a natural delivery but understand that plans can change suddenly.
Avatar f tn Maybe you could even post the question to one of the docs on this forum. What blood thinner does he want to put you on, and how high of a dose? I have a history of DVT and pulmonary embolism, myself. I am having a colonoscopy tomorrow, which shouldn't involve any cutting, yet I was instructed to stop my blood thinner on Friday. I take Arixtra shots every day, so maybe that's the difference, though.
Avatar f tn My ob has perscribed Lovenox shots (blood thinner) as a preventative measure because i had a blot clot 3 years ago. I am not really comfortable with it but i am being told it is necessary. Has anyone else had to do this? Any side effects?
1524811 tn?1333241301 m not sure if the doctor told you but, Lovenox is pretty much the only blood thinner you can take that does not pass through your placenta. I guess for me, I had to weigh the risks of not taking the shot vs what "might" happen. My doctor has assured me (several times) that this is one of the safest blood thinners to use while you are pregnant, but you HAVE TO be consistant on when you take it to keep yourself at a therapuetic level.
Avatar n tn m 17wks pregnant and take Lovenox injections (blood thinner also). My OB doctor told me I would do the injections until I am 36 weeks and then switch to Heparin because it's easier to reverse during delivery if there is an issue. Did you talk to your doctor about this? If I were you, I would call ASAP and see what you should do. Coumadin IS a blood thinner that has to cross your placenta, that's why I had to do the injections. Please call your doctor and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I would say that he is having improvement. I know that if they had given my mother in law a blood thinner when she was having Afib she would have done much better. Her blood clot was in her heart as well. I think that this is a good thing, It is however a fairly new medication for the group. Just give it time and think possitive.....
Avatar f tn and yes, it is an acutal blood clotting disorder, which is why lovenox and/or 81 mgs of aspirin is a must. the reason why mthfr causes miscarrage is tiny blood clots get caught in the placenta, which causes the flow of oxygen to get cut off from the fetus thus the pregnancy ends. if you get this disorder you should not ever take birth control again, because bc increases the chance for blood clots. bc with this disorder can be deadly.
178698 tn?1228774338 I have to take this blood thinner throughout my pregnancy and I give myself injections just under my belly button. I've been experiencing welts at the injection site. I don't know if I am doing something wrong. But these welts stick around for a few days. They aren't painful and don't bother me, I just think I am giving myself the shot incorrectly. Has anyone else experienced this issue?????
