"Lotemax is the only steroid that can be prescribed for long term therapy" This statement by PDophthalmology is incorrect.
Any steroid drop can be prescribed for long term use. The question is should they be and if they are needed what is the best choice.
First many conditions such as chronic uveitis require long term therapy of strong steroids such as pred forte, vexol, FML As with any steroid taken long term side effects are common and close monitoring is important.
My doctor said i would have to stop using Tobradex as the steroid has caused the raised eye pressure and prescribed instead Lotemax and Cravit to be used 6 times a day and Azarga 2 times a day. Upon reading, i just realised that Lotemax also contained steroid, so why is it given to me then? I have asked her and she said Lotemax rarely cause raise eye pressure. I am just not sure. Can a kind ophthalmologist assure me this is alright? Thanks.
Lotemax is the brand name of the drug loteprednol. It is a steroid anti-inflammatory like Pred Forte and likely is to be used in place of Pred Forte (or the other way around). You would need to ask your doctor to be sure. "Lotepred" on the label must refer to the generic name of loteprenol.
The brand name of Ketorolac, which is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, is Acular. So, nothing you have replaces the Ketorolac. Sorry. Maybe your doctor could give you a sample.

Is zylet cortiosteriod/antibiotic a good alternative to Lotemax + asasite. Asasite burns a lot and is very uncomfortable twice a day to use.
i also experience itching and irritation in both eyes from time to time. SHOULD I START LOTEMAX? will it be effective?
Worried I had an eye infection I called my doctor and I was prescribed to go on lotemax for a month. Almost immediately the discharge went away and I was fine as I finished my prescription. During this time I visited my doc to double check things and she said it was actually mostly meibomian gland dysfunction along with allergies. She just recommended the lastacaft again along with a daily eye cleanser once I finished the lotemax.
He mentioned that I had a lot of protein build up on my contacts and did a stain and he said I had dry eye. He prescribed Lotemax .05 as a first step therapy. Being fearful of steriods, he said that this is a mild steriod and hasn't had anyone have any problems with it. He said it's completely safe. Well, one month later, he informs me that I have cataracts (posterior subcapsular cataracts) and that they are a .5 on a scale of 1-4.
I have been taking Lotemax for a few months. My doctor said as long as my IOP remains low I can take this for years. If I develop a cataract from this and have to have surgery will cataract continue to comeback if I continue taking Lotemax?
My pressures range naturally between 20 and 26. I was then asked to go back on the steriod eye drop Lotemax which I was very worried about as the steriod eye drop Maxidex had caused my pressures in less than a week to rise to 58! But they said I had to so I started Lotemax and Iopidine.
I took myself back to the hospital 3 days later as I felt increased pain and my pressures were rechecked at 30 and 36. I mentioned is this the steriod as 3 days ago they were 24 and 26!
The patients have a bottle of lotemax steroid and they use it every hour until bedtime and on the half hour preservative free artifical tears. They are instructed not to rub the eye or use a tissue without shutting the eye first. They also put a drop of lotemax the next day on awakening, noon, evening then stop them and put in refrigerator to save for next eye visit.
For our eye drops sensitive patients this takes care of the product.
ve had a consistently red left eye upon waking. The doctor prescribed Lotemax drops, four times a day (to shrink the redness I assume) and asked that I see him in two weeks.
However, the flashlight I used to check my eyes was a 100 lumen Lenser LED (just and LED, no laser involved). I held it pretty close to both eye balls looking at the white parts next to the retina (sinus side on each eye).

It seems to be very slowly detaching with the use of Lotemax and Nevanac eye drops, with a small section yet to go. Today I experienced a sharp pain in my left eye while reaching for something, then a couple minutes of tears flowing. I've experienced that pain (tho not as sharp) a couple of times during this period. Felt like an eyelash in the eye, but there was nothing visible in my eye. bWhat are the possible causes? Could it be the membrane separating?

I was prescribed Lotemax drops to use in conjunction with Opcon A, and this worked for a while, but after a year or so it happened again, so I went to another ophthalmologist in Phoenix where I now live. Since June I have been suffering from extremely dry eyes. I saw my optomotrist, and she prescribed optivar, and Soothe XP. That didn't help, so next she perscribed Lotemax along with the Soothe XP. Still no help, so now I am on Restasis, Lotemax, and SootheXP. Along with this I have to apply cold compresses , & bought an extra humidifier for my bedroom. It's getting to the point of impacting my jb, which is driving as a Courier 8 hrs a day. Will this go away as quickly as it came on?
He did not find any foreign object, but said i was having an allergic reaction and put me on alrex. A day later i was back at Dr because my eye was on fire. He switched me to lotemax and said i might have been sensitive to alrex. Several days passed with no relief. I sought a second opinion, and was told they could not find any foreign object, but my eye was in distress and dry, so i was told to contunue lotemax, and use gel drops.
i am also suffering from nummular keratitis for almost 7 years and had been seeking from treatment from doctors since the last 2 years. they gave me steroids ( flarex and lotemax) and my eyes are becoming better now.
I had cataract surgery and Crystalens implantation on the second (left) eye on January 5th. The lens was to give me distance vision. After approximately 2 1/2 weeks, sight in that eye deteriorated to 20/70. My doctor explained that the lens had flexed forward but would not move back, possibly due to some fluid leakage. He performed another surgery to reposition the lens and add fluid on January 26th.
After the infection was over ,There was no pain or redness in the eye but vision was little fuzzy as compare to my right eye, I went to Opthamologist and she put me on Lotemax drops for 7 days, I used drops and went back after a week and she said, inflammation is still there and she put me on Prednisone 40 mg TABLETS for 4 days with Lotemax eye drops every one hour.
I am really worried as there are lot of side effects of Prednisone, This is my second day on Prednisone and so far i am good.

After the surgery, I was given antibiotic drops a lotemax for the inflammation. I am now almost six weeks post op with about 30% of the bubble remaining in my eye and the eye IS STILL dilated. I do not know what is wrong and my doctor hasn't given me a clear answer at all. I have read and read about the complications of the surgery and this isn't even listed nor was I informed of such a complication. Is this a normal occurrence? Will it go away? I just need to know something.
They then put 4 silcon plugs (upper and lower both eyes) and started me on lotemax drops twice daily, lotemax ointment at bedtime , xiidra twice daily and oasis tears four times a day and as needed. Am i on the right path?
My eyes still burn when I use the computer and my left eye (has residual myopia) is constantly heavy, I feel like I need to close it or squeeze it shut really hard.

I got GPC on my left eye when I overused my contacts and I was on Lotemax for about 2 months, the bumps went away but I still have problems on my left eye. its usually redder than my right eye and my upper eyelid gets itchy and swollen randomly time to time, I tried Allaway but it didn't help, I also use a lot of Artificial tears and Gels so I'm sure its not from dryness.
60 yr old female. Have been dealing with dry eye for over a year. Antibiotics, Lotemax drops, Lotemax gel, Blink lubricating drops, Now; Refresh PM gel, Systane Ultra lubricating drops and Restasis. Optimologist prescribed Restasis 6 weeks ago. Still not sure why eyes are red all of the time. Suggested allergy testing, which I have scheduled now. Optomologist says that he still isn't sure what is going on and wants to put plugs in my eyes.
