Lotemax and alrex

Common Questions and Answers about Lotemax and alrex

lotemax

Avatar f tn He did not find any foreign object, but said i was having an allergic reaction and put me on alrex. A day later i was back at Dr because my eye was on fire. He switched me to lotemax and said i might have been sensitive to alrex. Several days passed with no relief. I sought a second opinion, and was told they could not find any foreign object, but my eye was in distress and dry, so i was told to contunue lotemax, and use gel drops.
Avatar n tn "Lotemax is the only steroid that can be prescribed for long term therapy" This statement by PDophthalmology is incorrect. Any steroid drop can be prescribed for long term use. The question is should they be and if they are needed what is the best choice. First many conditions such as chronic uveitis require long term therapy of strong steroids such as pred forte, vexol, FML As with any steroid taken long term side effects are common and close monitoring is important.
Avatar n tn m sure its not from dryness. I went to the doctor and he said he would like to try Alrex and Restasis on me, but its very expensive and I'm afraid it won't work like Lotemax didn't 1 year has passed from the time I had GPC and it doesn't seem to have got any better. sometimes my left eyelid swells to a point that I can't look up. Is this a permanent thing now? What should I do about it?
Avatar n tn I am assuming that you are NOT sleeping in your contact lenses. Elestat and Alrex are mild anti-allergy eye drops but usually effective if the problem is actually allergies. If you continue not to respond to allergy treatment your ophthalmologist should begin to consider other conditions like dry eyes.
Avatar m tn You might ask your ophthalologist about using a mild steroid like alrex or even lotemax just prior to your period just before the redness begins, or you might try oral antiinflammatory about that time such as aspirin or ibuprofin.
Avatar n tn The patients have a bottle of lotemax steroid and they use it every hour until bedtime and on the half hour preservative free artifical tears. They are instructed not to rub the eye or use a tissue without shutting the eye first. They also put a drop of lotemax the next day on awakening, noon, evening then stop them and put in refrigerator to save for next eye visit. For our eye drops sensitive patients this takes care of the product.
Avatar m tn I guess my main fear is that, say I use Alrex for 6 months, and then the condition gets better and I stop. And at the time when I stop, my eyes have no problem. Would there be a risk, years later, that I would suddenly get cataracts as a result of the previous Alrex use? I'm guessing 'not really,' based on your answer...
Avatar m tn I went back to an eye doc and he wanted to wean me off the Alrex and onto Lastacaft. The problem is that Lastacaft does nothing, and Alrex continues to be my silver bullet--it fixes the eye pain (which can make it difficult to read at night, etc), and it also clears up the redness, which is socially a real obstacle. I don't want to give up the ONE thing that I;v'e found that works, for no reason!
Avatar n tn Loteprednol (Alrex or Lotemax). And it so happens that this patient uses this medication for a week and … well… discontinues therapy prematurely. I whole-heartedly agree, speaking more from experience than from blind faith in any specialist's advice that steroids are not for chronic dry eyes. But how does the use of FML for a week constitute "chronic steroid use"?
Avatar m tn My doctor did not seemed too concerned and said that I could continue to take the Alrex. What are the odds the Alrex will continue to raise my IOP?
Avatar n tn nothing but steroids has helped with my posterior bleph, i have burning, eyelid inflammation and very bloodshot eyes; will alrex eventually lead to cataract/or glaucoma if i use it daily for the next say 20 years- is it an inevitability even if I haven't been a steroid responder up until this point?
Avatar n tn My doctor said i would have to stop using Tobradex as the steroid has caused the raised eye pressure and prescribed instead Lotemax and Cravit to be used 6 times a day and Azarga 2 times a day. Upon reading, i just realised that Lotemax also contained steroid, so why is it given to me then? I have asked her and she said Lotemax rarely cause raise eye pressure. I am just not sure. Can a kind ophthalmologist assure me this is alright? Thanks.
Avatar m tn I'm on Lotemax / Pred Forte and also on Ketorolac (generic brand of a perscription that I forget) which is an anti-inflamatory. I have access to Lotepred; is that the same as the Ketorolac, (anti-inflamatory)? Or, is Lotepred the same as Zymar (anti-biotic)? I'm trying to avoid renewing my perscription of Ketorolac for 8 more days.
Avatar m tn both are combinations of steroids and antibiotics. In some people and some conditions they would work as substitutes but for many conditions like blepharitis Azacyte is better than tobramycin for the condition. You should ask your Eye MD these questions.
Avatar n tn i have shown my condition to 3 doctyors and have taken different eye drops begining with VIGAMOX and more recently ZEDATIN and FML forte. my left eye appears smaller than the right eye, it is very red in the lower part of the eye as well as in the sides. these symptoms are present in the left eye as well but are not as severe. i also experience itching and irritation in both eyes from time to time. SHOULD I START LOTEMAX? will it be effective?
Avatar f tn It was my right eye only and it was constant and bad enough that it was constantly frustrating and hard to make it through a day. I saw my ophthalmologist who told me it was allergies and gave me lastacaft. I had bad eye allergies as a kid but they were always itchy never watery. Anyway, the drops worked and the issue was gone. After a few months I stopped the drops to see if the allergies were gone, and I was fine for a few months. In August I was on a work trip and it started up again.
Avatar n tn He mentioned that I had a lot of protein build up on my contacts and did a stain and he said I had dry eye. He prescribed Lotemax .05 as a first step therapy. Being fearful of steriods, he said that this is a mild steriod and hasn't had anyone have any problems with it. He said it's completely safe. Well, one month later, he informs me that I have cataracts (posterior subcapsular cataracts) and that they are a .5 on a scale of 1-4.
1958686 tn?1468782903 No that is not normal and I would suggest you try and contact your surgeon today and speak with him/her or whoever is on call and at least get in tomorrow for them to examine your eye as this is not typical and might indicate a complication.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Lotemax for a few months. My doctor said as long as my IOP remains low I can take this for years. If I develop a cataract from this and have to have surgery will cataract continue to comeback if I continue taking Lotemax?
Avatar f tn I went to another specialist who said I had viral conjunctivitis and he gave me Alrex eyedrops. I took those for two weeks and my eyes cleared up. However, after coming off they turned red again. At this point, I didnt use any medication for three weeks to see if if was just rebound redness. My eyes got worse. They stuck together when I got up in the morning and my eyelids started cracking in the corners.
Avatar n tn In a similiar situation I would use FML or Alrex and low dose maybe twice perday for three of four months monitoring the IOP every six weeks. I have had patients on steroids for this problem up to 6 months.
184420 tn?1326739808 I went to my eye doctor and he put me on Lotemax and Restasis drops and they have helped immensely. He said he is going to keep me on the Restasis for the entire time I am on treatment. Personally I would see an eye doctor for this problem. An eye doctor can examine your eyes to be sure there is nothing else gouing on with them. The drugs can cause some eye problems so, in my opinion, it is best to get to the bottom of any symptoms .
Avatar f tn t tell if it has added to already existing discomfort. Have beenn Restasis, Alrex , Pataday and now Muro ointment. I see a well known Corneaologist and he wants me to have the Amniotic Membrane Transplant especially now that I have developed the eye cysts. I don't know what to do -- wld like other opinions on this procedure and its history on long term resolution of Conjunctivochalsis. Also, are my cornea issues related to the extended use of Restasis? Alrex & Pataday?
Avatar f tn It seems to be very slowly detaching with the use of Lotemax and Nevanac eye drops, with a small section yet to go. Today I experienced a sharp pain in my left eye while reaching for something, then a couple minutes of tears flowing. I've experienced that pain (tho not as sharp) a couple of times during this period. Felt like an eyelash in the eye, but there was nothing visible in my eye. bWhat are the possible causes? Could it be the membrane separating?
Avatar n tn t working any more, so I went to an ophthalmologist in Orlando who examined me and said there was nothing wrong. I was prescribed Lotemax drops to use in conjunction with Opcon A, and this worked for a while, but after a year or so it happened again, so I went to another ophthalmologist in Phoenix where I now live. He also found nothing wrong and gave me the same prescription for Lotemax.
Avatar m tn ve had a consistently red left eye upon waking. The doctor prescribed Lotemax drops, four times a day (to shrink the redness I assume) and asked that I see him in two weeks. However, the flashlight I used to check my eyes was a 100 lumen Lenser LED (just and LED, no laser involved). I held it pretty close to both eye balls looking at the white parts next to the retina (sinus side on each eye).
