My father takes only one forth of his Lipitor and his cholesterol levels are excellent now. Sarcoidosis runs on my mother's side of the family. It affected my mother's lungs and heart. The radiation from Cat scans is high and to have one every year would increase the risk of cancer. Heart Surgeons frequently find cancer in heart patients most likely due to the radiation from the years of heart testing. My mother had Sarcoidosis, cancer, and severe heart disease.
Hello everyone. I finished chemotherapy 5 weeks ago for Stage I BC and just finished the first week of radiation to my right breast. I have lost four pounds this week and it doesn't seem like I am eating less. This feels alarming to me because I have always been on the heavy side and it's generally hard to lose weight. I am wondering if it is the radiation? The other possibility is I started taking Lipitor 3 weeks ago in preparation for taking the systemic therapy.
I have been taking Lipitor for the last 10 years and lately I have developed muscle pains. I was told the pain might be because of the Lipitor. I stopped taking them for a couple of months, the pain was much less however my cloestrol level was back to 290.
I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.
There is much controversy about cholesterol, but it is muted because of pharmaceutical financial interests in statins. Half of those who die of strokes or heart attacks have no history of high cholesterol. DeBakey discounted cholesterol. My own doctor pays no attention to it. What is the true role of cholesterol and how should one proceed? I don't know, but I won't take Lipitor.
I cut out 99% of the sugar and salt in my diet and am eating only fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen no-additives fruits and vegetables, lean beef, pork, chicken, cold water fish, walnuts, almonds, dried fruits, raw honey, fresh herbs, and occasionally, I have whole grain brown rice. I do not eat any gluten, dairy, legumes, or nightshade fruits and vegetables (tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, peppers). I allow myself one or two treats a week like a small amount of dark chocolate or dill pickles.
The Lipitor package insert recommends that a test of your liver function should be done prior to and at 12 weeks following both the start of therapy with Lipitor and any increase of dose, and periodically (for example, every six months) thereafter. If there are any changes in your liver function, drinking alcohol may make it worse.
People taking lipitor are recommended to avoid alcohol in their diet because it raises the triglyceride levels, another lipid which is a risk factor for heart disease. Going to soft drinks would be far more beneficial for your body obviously but if this is impossible I would switch your lipitor to the mornings. Lipitor, unlike some statin drugs, can be taken any time of the day.
If hypothyrodism can cause high cholesterol is it not better to take thyorid hormone replacement than Lipitor?
I have been taking Anastrozole for about two and half years for stage 1 ER/PR positive breast cancer. About a year after I started taking the drug, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes that is not particularly well controlled, even though I take two different prescriptions. A few months after that I was diagnosed with high cholesterol. For that I now take Lipitor, which has lowered the total cholesterol quite a bit.

Lipitor? Statins have been associated with elevated liver enzymes. The correct protocol for a prescribing physician is to order blood tests and specifically liver enzymes (ALT, AST, GGT) BEFORE starting a statin. This gives the doctor a baseline against which to measure possible elevations. Blood should be checked a month or 2 after starting the statin to look for any elevations.
5 mg, Bupropion 200 mg twice a day, approx. 3yrs for this type and dosage prior types before this, lipitor 20 mg, approx. 6yrs. 2002 Angioplasty for 70 percent blockage using catheritization (arm, Dr. Saito in Japan). No stent.
2006 no restenosis. 2008 Did CT scan radioactive dye and also no restenosis.
Age: 56--> Regimen: Lipitor 5 mg, baby aspirin, fish oil (about 3-4 grams).
Congratulations on your eight years! I hate to be the one to say this but there is no such thing as "out of the woods" with cancer, I wish there was.
What you've done is reduced your risk for another estrogen positive breast cancer and ovarian cancer. But that doesn't mean you won't get a different type of breast cancer in the remaining breast tissue or another part of your body.
But you know as well as I do that each year we are NED with cancer is better for our odds.
I am 55 years old had recttal cancer removed 4/o8, and luckly no bag and no treatment. I have dense breast with micro calcification. Had a biopsy of right breast 2 years ago and was fine. Went for mamo and sono this past Monday and they saw microcalcification that they say is suspicious. So next friday I go to the hospital for yet anothet biopsy.
My question is, for my surgery in april for the rectal cancer I had a chest cat scan and a full body pet scan. Both came up good.
