255075 tn?1208136424 and the pain has been really horrible, the lidocaine patch did not do much for me, i am 36, fairly healthy and have bad back and leg sciatica/nerve damage/pain, i have heard it works well w/ folks w/ chronic but not horrible pain, hope it helps
Avatar f tn When I talked to my surgeon he told me that meds really are not a good solution for me because they dont work for nerve pain??? and that physical therapy is out of the question because it will do nothing for "nerve pain".....I have been reading a lot of your posts lately and i must admit......I thought you were a just a disgruntled ex-addict. Underneath your angry exterior you really are a wonderful person.
728965 tn?1266377245 Have you tried to rub some muscle creme on it? You could also ask the doc. for Lidoderm patches and see if they help alleviate the pain. I hope you can get relief soon. Please be safe and take care.
Avatar m tn while I was in my full blown addiction my train of thought woudl of said the only thing that could help my severe lower back pain is Oxycotins or Percs or Vic ES But if you would like to try a new drug on the market please try Lidoderm patch 5% It works frigging if anybody out there is truly trying to find a non narcotic medication that truly works so that you can get off the hard narcotics and their dependency try it........
19965699 tn?1487515118 I ONLY take Ocycontin 20mg x3 a day, 4mg Tizanidine (muscle relaxer) 1xdaily as needed, and Lidoderm patches. I also use a TENS unit, sometimes for hours! Am I still in pain? YES!! But it is livable!! I have my mind, can think and do for myself.. things I could not do while on all those meds..
Avatar n tn I have had moderate to severe pain in my left thigh for about 5 years with varying degrees of pain in my left forearm and left buttock. In the last several months I have been also been experiencing some symptoms almost every day – beginning in the early afternoon my skin gets pink and is warm, then within the hour, I have body aches, slight fatigue, and joint pain mostly in my hands but sometimes in my shoulders.
Avatar f tn I have been on oxycontin 20mg 3 times a day for almost 4 years. No problem there. I also have tens unit and lidoderm patches. I also have GERD. I do not smoke or drink and have many allergies. On Jan 16 I had a spinal epidural shot. Normally it causes insomnia and I have stayed up for over 65 days before. Not this time. I had extreme fatigue sleeping 16 hours a day. It let up after a week and I got up ate dinner at table. Here is what scared me.
Avatar f tn So the thing is if you want to give them up the sooner the better, and just be prepared. I had some epsom salt for hot baths, heating pad for back pain, I got lidoderm patchs from my DR (non narc) and things like that. It made it so much better when the pain did come and the w/d's. Ther are all kinds of things to help, the people on this site know alot more things that help ie...herbs, such. So what do you think ? time to stop ?

Avatar m tn The sleeplessness tends to hold on for a little bit longer. I too started taking pain meds for a bad back and sciatica due to an injury. Two surgeries later and still suffer from pain. The best advice I can give is to treat the cause and not mask it with pain pills. If you're anything like me you will have to deal with it for a long time to come and you don't want to get hooked on narcotic pain meds.
Avatar f tn I continued working, but the pain in my lower back was so bad that I alomost forgot the pain in my arm and shoulder. I could not stand for more that 20-30 minutes and I could not sit for more than 20-30 minutes. In 2006 I began with a pain specialist who began steroid injections bilaterally of the Sacaral Joint (He noticed obvious swelling in that region). I had these injection performed alot over several month but they only gave a 2 week relief.

Avatar f tn Thank you all for your quick replies and also thanks for understanding my pain. 2-3 days back when I had severe leg pain I found small red brown colored patch on my skin on left calf muscle. As leg pain eases while walking. Is it related to blood circulation. ? When I visited doctor he is also not sure what causing this.but he told there is no neurological problem. He suggested will do some blood tests for arthritis if same type of patches come more in feature.
6815927 tn?1395515025 You are right, hyperalgesia is quite common after being on opiates for a LONG time for pain. I had it too. I chose to wait and re-evaluate my pain levels after I'd been totally off opiates for 60-90 days. Lots of healing is taking place...and our pain/opiate receptors have to begin to work on their own again. Initially, the pain INCREASES....I'm sorry to say that, but it does for a bit......then as we produce our own "endogenous morphine"....
Avatar m tn "I had a laminectomy in August of '06...back pain and sciatica returned in about 4 months, so I just live with it. I do not take pain medicine and use Lidoderm patches, but, lately that doesn't seem to help either. When I exercise, after 15 minutes, my toes go numb - same side as the sciatic pain. Sometimes it's feels as if my vertebrae are sliding across each other without any cushion - bone against bone.
1187071 tn?1279373298 Oh no Jamie, my heart is breaking for you. If your back continues to hurt like this for another week, you should really think about going to that one doctor you were talking about to get it checked out! You possibly may need an MRI and into therapy right away. I agree with Sara that you need to rest and take it easy. I know it's not easy to do, but it will help. I've been resting and taking it easy now for the longest time. I'm not able to get up and move around.
5518617 tn?1372434482 Request from you're doctor Lidoderm Patches, they are a transdermal lidocaine patch that works well for this type of pain. It's not immediate, takes about an hour, but heat helps it kick in. Just listen to you're doc. There are limits on how long you can keep it on. And rotate from Ibuprofen and Tylenol. Unfortunately, you're gonna dealing with this for some time. And if you start down the narc rabbit hole, it will only get worse.
Avatar m tn 1935 was the co-founder of writing the Wilson developed the Twelve-step spiritual program and the basic organizational guidelines for AA known as the Twelve Traditions. It took me 37 years to understand and submit to the first step: (my words) "To admit that I am powerless to my addiction and that my life has become unmangageable".
363110 tn?1340924019 It's been a lil while since I've posted on this forum and I had my first round of injections which helped immensely for the first couple weeks then my back pain returned but not as intensely. I was supposed to get my 2nd round of injections about a week and a half ago but missed the appointment and then got ill along with my family with a really bad cold and upper respiratory thing.
Avatar f tn I had an EKG done and that revealed that my heart rate was Tachycardia (130 bpm sitting) and so I was therefore not a candidate for diet medication. She said that I was too high risk for it and she would not give it to me. She said that the rapid heart rate could be because I've been taking my thyroid medication wrong, taking it late at night with my other medication (it will bind and has done that) and doesn't dissolve at the proper amounts so that it's increasing my heart rate).
Avatar n tn So, finally, in November 2006 he referred me to a Pain Management Dr. who tried the Sacroiliac Steroid Injection. It helped my right side for 1 week, my left side for 2 weeks. He has now asked me to think about an implant of the spinal cord stimulator. I've heard good and bad things about this implant and it frightens me. I think I may try to get a 3rd opinion, actually a 2nd opinion from a Dr. at the University of Chicago.
Avatar n tn It's taking more time than I thought it would. Codeine has been the only thing that has helped my sciatica problem for the past 12 yrs. I've tried every anti-inflammatory in the book (including the newer ones). The sciatica has been recently diagnosed as piriformis syndrome. But now the physiatrist (I'd never been to one til April) says I've got a bunch of trigger points. I still don't understand what that means exactly, but will research on it. I started w/6-8 Norco (10 mg.
Avatar n tn I was taking up to 800mg per day of Ultram just for the high, and i got a Rx of 120 per month for over a year.As the Doc says above , it is narcotic like.
Avatar f tn My arms, and only my arms, have itched for 10 years. no rashes, no psiorias, excema etc. The creams, allergery list is extensive as to what I have tried but nothing worked. ---------------The only thing that helps are ice packs. ----------------------- Recently,I had an x-ray to check if I had any nerve impingement in my cervical spine - one of the possible causes but nothing showed so I continue to search for answers.
211940 tn?1267884866 I have been looking everywhere for an answer, maybe someone here can. About 1 year ago I began having pain in my right upper arm, between the shoulder and elbow, about mid arm where the biceps brachii muscle or brachialis muscle is. I went to my Primary Physician who said it was a torn brachialis muscle. Since I was working at a 2nd job, I thought it might be job related so I went through the whole Workman's Comp issue.
Avatar n tn Can a Vitamin D deficiency cause this much pain? Went to the doc for muscle pain & weakness with increasing shooting pains to the point of affecting everyday functioning. Blood test came back low in Vitamin D. Result was 11, (should be 26 to 55). Other results OK. Cervical Spine & lower back MRI OK. Treatment is 50,000 units of D per week for 4 weeks and thereafter once a month. Been on it for 4 months. Feel at times like I was in accident.
Avatar n tn I have talked to the neurosurgeon who did the surgery and he shrugged his shoulders and said I have no idea and sent me back to my neurologist. He gave me a series of injections in both shoulders and the pain stopped for a couple days but then came right back. Then we tried message therapy, it helps but only for a short period. And I have tried changing my pillows on my bed and sleeping in different positions and nothing seems to help for long term. What can I do?
