Lidocaine with propofol

Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine with propofol

lidoderm

Avatar m tn this situation can be dealt with by local anesthesia like lidocaine. since it is (the procedure) not time consuming and the area is readily accessible. Nitrous oxide could be used if you are anxious about the procedure, it is to deal with your anxiety, nothing more. I don't recommend General anesthesia, since the case is not inquiring. If I were you, I would go for local anesthesia alone. but as I said, if you are afraid of doing it, you may choose nitrous oxide.
212161 tn?1599427282 Hi Barbara, Not to worry at all. Propofol is a perfectly safe drug when used under approved anesthetic situations with either a nurse anesthisis or anashesiologist adminstering it properly. In fact, it's a major improvement over some of the older anesthetics, as the recovery times are faster with less side effects to the digestive system and kidneys (constipation and renal slowdown.) It's really a very safe drug used properly.
Avatar f tn my mom was on a ventilator and now has a trache, the whole time she has been given propofol infusions, she has very little movement but why wont she wake up, could she have possible brain damage i am emotionally devastated, i hope someone can help me
Avatar m tn One week later, for an exam, our cat was given Propofol for sedation. The following 2 weeks our cat was not herself, almost demented. Finally, at her last exam our doctor reported an extremely low pH (7.1) and increased chemical imbalance. Are there specific known threats of combining these drugs?
Avatar f tn my gastro is a friend and let me watch an upper and lower one with propofol and one with versed; the propofol patient just squirmed but the versed patient looked like they were being killed. It was awful to watch; but immediately afterwards neither remembered much, but they knew something bad had happened. A week later, I spoke with the versed patient (a co-worker) and he said that the experience was awful.
Avatar m tn I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong? This discussion is related to Lidocaine induced seizure during dental procedure.
212161 tn?1599427282 found out they put you to sleep with propofol with someone montioring you the whole time, is this safe, dr tells me they dont use stronge amount just a lite one really scares me in to anxiety attacks and not sure i will have the colonoscopy now
Avatar m tn I've had 4 bad reactions to anesthesia. My GP says it was midazolam and to list that as a drug allergy. When I do that, I frequently get interrogated like I'm some sort of nut case. I have to have a colonoscopy this year and from my reading it looks like midazolam is the drug of choice. Are there other options? I've read about propofol, but the cost and risk discussed in the various articles make it seem like a controversial choice.
Avatar f tn I had my procedures today with no problem and the Propofol worked great. No varices, no portal hypertension, which is good news on both fronts. I do have a hiatal hernia, mild inflammation in the stomach with gastritis - which he did a biopsy on to rule out H. Pylori, I had a colon polyp-which he removed and sent to pathology and internal and external hemorrhoids. Now that you know all of the gory details!!
383138 tn?1314167773 I read later, it is common for women to have rt chest pain with a heart attack. Then, the well documented irregular heart beat with lidocaine. Now, I am certain that is what happened. It has scared me so badly (even though the pain relief was great). By the way, there was no mention of possible fatal side effects before hand. The pain relief will not help at all, if I am dead. So, if your cardiologist says NO.. That would definitely be my answer. NO.
Avatar m tn if I changed my mind she suggested propofol and agreed that many people have problems with Versed. Most importantly, she told me that she would stop if I asked her to; one thing about this doctor: she explained that she prefers to use sedation because she tends to rush the exam if an unsedated patient is in pain...But she also said that most get Versed and they are in pain anyway (hopefully the drug prevents memory of the procedure)....Anyway, the unsedated exam was easy and painless.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I had a colonoscopy and EGD. When the doctor came to talk to me in recovery, he advised that "normally" his patients require 1/2 to one full bottle of propofol for these proceedures. He advised that I was highly resistant and they had to give me EIGHT bottles. (?!?!?) After going home, my mother couldn't believe that I was up and about and feeling pretty good considering. When she had her colonoscopy, apparently she came home and went straight to bed.
1348686 tn?1310654243 Try to get propofol for sedation rather than the usual crappy mix of Versed./fentanyl...............this often causes significant distress (it doesn;t work) then the patient gets sent home in a daze to experience nightmares/PTSD....
Avatar f tn I can tell you, that I had general anesthesia with cephalothin-propofol. But my problem apeared a month after operation. I had propofol many times before for other reason without complications. I was at retinal specialist, but he did not find anything wrong. The last check up finding is small cupping, normal IOP. I have appointment for glaucoma specialist and ACCU MAP . But still I do not know the reason for retinal ischemia in first place and progression of vision loss.
Avatar m tn to me and suggested an upper endoscopy with ultrasound to investigate my pancreas which was my main worry. He agreed with me that my symptoms should have been investigated with an upper GI first rather than a colonoscopy - which I'd already had done thanks to a GP who never listens! So under his advise, I had the endoscopy done just today and was discharged from the hospital with a brief report.
Avatar m tn A scan might tell the story, so you could ask for that in lieu of the colonoscopy for now. But one thing about colonoscopies that you may wish to consider is that they can clip off polyps, which those things sometimes will turn into cancerous growths. So, it's a preventive procedure, too. In addition, let us say you have an abcess, which sometimes happens in the gut if there's a little pouch that sticks out from pressure in the intestine, and it can get infected and hurt.
Avatar f tn A 4 year old 8#12oz pom has not urinated in 3 days and is diagnosed with stones. In order to insert a catheter he is given 0.3mg of Buprenorphine at 10:30 a.m. Somewhere between 10:30 a.m. and midnight he received 2 more injection of this drug - dosage and time unknown. Also between 10:30 a.m. and midnight he received 10cc of Propofol and Isoflurane. Would these combinations or frequency of the Bupre possibly cause an overdose?
7282682 tn?1397237735 I have a colonoscopy next week. The stuff they put you out with isnt an opiate is it? I don't want to do anything that jeopardizes my recovery.
Avatar f tn ve had quite a few stellate ganglion blocks and have had some success. They thought the lidocaine infusion might help the other pain I deal with and kill two (or more) birds at the same time so to speak. KittKat23-78, Sorry the infusion didn't help you!! I hadn't heard about having several a few days apart; I'll have to ask about it. Mine is (at least one) being paid for by worker's comp. I'm hopeful but also trying to keep things realistic and in perspective.
Avatar f tn I concur with dolphin8088. Propofol is a really nice way to be sedated. I've had it a number of times, and can only compare it to the feeling of having one too many drinks, only it come on really fast; a momemt of dizziness, then you're awake again. The effects wear off very quickly, and within 5 or 10 minutes, you're feeling like yourself again. Do not fear this anesthesia!

Has anyone here used it before? And did it help? I tried to use it last night but it wouldnt stick to my neck.
Avatar m tn only 1/4 inch came out so a good 1/2 inch is still in there i can see it thru the nail. I attempted to cut and split the nail with razor blade but once i got part way thru nail it hurt bad. my co-worker gave me a new 10ml bottle of lidocaine, he uses it to give himself stitches. advice as to where to put the needle (i got from cvs insulin 31g-8mm),what to expect ie: will it burn- how long b4 its numb, and if i split the nail will it grow back? any advice will help..
Avatar n tn Re: Lidocaine Enemas. I am warning everyone to be careful. My brother just died 3/31/12 from a lidocaine enema. He was only 28. (Lidocaine Intoxication) Lidocaine in liquid form. I don't want anyone elses loved ones to die like this. I hope everyone will be careful when dealing w/lidocaine. it is a dangerous substance when not used properly.
Avatar m tn Propofol is a sedation drug used in colonoscopy. I want to know can it be overdosed and cause heart damage.
Avatar f tn There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
