Hello, My sister needs extensive dental work i.e. root canals and fillings and crowns. She is a heart patient and we are wondering if Lidocaine, EPI, or any of the 'caines' are safe for dental work in heart patients? We do not want to start an arrythmia attack. Any safe meds? Thanks much.
Most doctors tell me that the lidocaine/epi should be out of my system but then why was my entire head numb for three days after? I actually felt the medicine inside my head and circulating through my body.
My tongue is still numb so nerve injury? guess I'll be going to the ENT soon after these other doctors. Wish I could bill my dentist for all this mess.
It passed of course in a few minutes and when I went in yesterday for a root canal I asked for the anesthetic without epi. The first shot was fine, but the second injection sill caused my heart to pound hard, my chest felt shallow and made me feel a little panicy. It passed and the 3rd injection did the same. The assistant said "we did not give you epi, but that does happen to some people".
Just as the doctor left the room after shooting him up with the novacaine on both sides of his mouth top and bottom he went unconsious and had a seizure. The doctor stated it was because he fasted and was nervous. He has never had a seizure before but it was deffinately not just passing out. What should I watch for as future side effects of this treatment?
I have to go have a tooth filled tomorrow and I'm somewhat apprehensive about the anesthetic. I know most often the ones they use contain epinephrine because it's a vasoconstricter and causes the anesthesia to work longer. I know you can request the anesthetic without the epi but then it wears off quickly (like when they are drilling on your tooth). I asked my cardiologist and he said if I didn't get a big dose of the epi, if it was mixed, with the beta blockers I should be ok.
With this baby my 2nd I don't want an epi! With my first I got one & I don't care wat anyone says they hurt the doctor had to stick me 3 times before it worked & bout a hour later I could feel the pain because the epi slipped out. My back was messed up for six months after I had my daughter I couldn't sit for more then 5 mins without needing help getting up!....epi! Scare the crapp out of me I think ill pass any natural births out there ?
But u can get one as soon as u get to ur hospital but most times they like for u to be 4 cm before so usually they will offer demoral (not sure of the spelling) with ur iv! I tell my hubby he has one job.....get me to the hospital in time I want my meds!
Sadie I think my site is similar to yours 2-3 cm from nipple. Nanno is right...a little pain is worth it to get the results..I think the waiting is the horrible part.
What were your mammo and sono results that made you go for the biospy? I go on Wednesday so I'm hoping for good news soon.

t tolerate Lidocaine or epi., so I used Procaine or Marcaine for my procedures--at the dentist too. It was at the dentist that I discovered this problem. If you want an alternate drug, KEEP REMINDING THEM--they automatically use lidocaine it seems. Certainly they can numb you with something!
I don't know about microcal. washing away--but I do know that 8mm of DCIS was indentified on my biopsy, and MANY scans and 2 surgeries later, no sign of cancer has been found.
ve had quite a few stellate ganglion blocks and have had some success. They thought the lidocaine infusion might help the other pain I deal with and kill two (or more) birds at the same time so to speak.
KittKat23-78, Sorry the infusion didn't help you!! I hadn't heard about having several a few days apart; I'll have to ask about it. Mine is (at least one) being paid for by worker's comp. I'm hopeful but also trying to keep things realistic and in perspective.
only 1/4 inch came out so a good 1/2 inch is still in there i can see it thru the nail. I attempted to cut and split the nail with razor blade but once i got part way thru nail it hurt bad. my co-worker gave me a new 10ml bottle of lidocaine, he uses it to give himself stitches. advice as to where to put the needle (i got from cvs insulin 31g-8mm),what to expect ie: will it burn- how long b4 its numb, and if i split the nail will it grow back? any advice will help..
Re: Lidocaine Enemas. I am warning everyone to be careful. My brother just died 3/31/12 from a lidocaine enema. He was only 28. (Lidocaine Intoxication) Lidocaine in liquid form. I don't want anyone elses loved ones to die like this. I hope everyone will be careful when dealing w/lidocaine. it is a dangerous substance when not used properly.
all we can say is to have a follow up with the doctor. To be honest with you i dont see how you could get epi from chlamydia as takes time for the germs to get into the epi and in that time you would have a puss penis discharge, burning while urinating or urethra itching which would have led you to seek treament before it reached your epi.
There are no contraindications for using lidocaine for the purpose described. The only danger is that lidocaine completely anesthetizes tissue, which is why you can cut or suture an area treated by lidocaine. Thus it is possible to cause a tear or injury that would not be noticed until the lidocaine wore off. In the case of normal intercourse, this should not be a problem.
