Lysine works wonders for cold sores. If you are susceptible to them simply take one every day. Lysine is an over the counter vitamin.

Posting for my Mom...she is in between round 2 &3 with doxil and has terrible mouth and back throat sores. So bad she cannot swallow anything but chicken broth, going on day three. She does backing soda gargle and that relieves for a bit. Is there anything that can be used to get rid of these sores.

I have had hsv 1 and gotten cold sores on my mouth since childhood so only did igg for hsv 2. One at ten weeks post exposure (but 2 days after completing 10 day course of valtrex) was negative. Second igg at 14 weeks post exposure and one month after last valtrex dose, also negative. Plan to do one more at 18 weeks exposure to get one more after no valtrex for two months. I am in a constant state of discomfort.

Go to your Dr and get a prescription for MAGIC MOUTHWASH. It works. For me it definitely lessened the severity of the mouth sores. It has Lidocaine, Benadryl and malox in it. That is the basic stuff. It can also be mixed with other things like something to get rid of yeast problems (forgot the name) if they develop.

Magic mouthwash can also be used for pharyngitis, canker sores, and cold sores. One common formulation of the mouthwash contains one part each of viscous lidocaine, Maalox and Benadryl. To use, swish and spit 5 ml every four hours. Another combination contains 12.5 mg Benadryl, 60 ml Maalox, 4 grams Carafate, and xylocaine. Swish, gargle and spit 5-10 ml of this formulation every six hours as needed.

Um absolutely a no no I wouldn't kiss my baby anywhere with a cold sore try using abreva for it it's over the counter I used to work in a obgyn office and the docs used to tell pts to buy over the counter first b4 they prescribed a rx. Good luck and congrats.

Id see your Dr if you have swollen glands, could be something you need to be treated for like strep. There are lots of over the counter medications you can use to help the cold sore. Just go to any store and ask them.

for the past 5 months on and off i have suffered from dry sores on the corners of my mouth after a while using cold sore lip cream it goes but then soon returns, its not contagious and not very painful but itchy and easy spreads and splits when i yawn !

At the time I was not sure if it even was even the start of a cold sore because it was so small. I immidiately began taking Lysine for two days and the small redness never developed into a full on sore. During that time I did not understand that cold sores could cause genital herpes to someone else. I thought the two strains were completely different and could not be interchangeable. I gave my partner oral and then we had unprotected sex. I have had oral hsv-1 since i was 5 years old.

Cold sores are harmless in pregnancy. Just after the baby is born be careful to kiss your newborn when you have another outbreak, as it can be fatal due to their llittle immune systems. Don't worry, most creams are fine.
