Lidocaine drug class

Common Questions and Answers about Lidocaine drug class

lidoderm

Avatar m tn This can be overcome by using preservative-free lidocaine. In case of true allergy another class of anesthetics, the esters like benzocaine can be tried. Discuss all the options with your doctor before consenting for surgery. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn They both can have effects on the heart, adrenalin has an obvious effect and lidocaine is actually an antiarrhythmic drug (class 1b sodium blocker) which may have proarrhythmic effects. The problem is - adrenalin is added to prevent the lidocaine from having systemic effects, the blood vessels are constricted. If you have reactions towards lidocaine, choosing the one without adrenalin would be bad.
Avatar m tn I know what you mean about the firelike feeling of nerve pain. Unfortunately, there are no good medications on the market yet for this. That's why they have been prescribing off-label use of medications for Epilepsy like neurontin/gabapentin etc. etc. There doesn't seem to be any real good research on the use of this class of drugs for this nerve problem either. Some people do get some relief, but from what I know most patients can't tolerate the side effects of these drugs.
Avatar m tn Each individual are known to respond to a drug differently in drug allergy. If the drug is too much sensitized then it can cause more severe reaction. The spectrum of these reactions can vary widely; reactions may present as typical allergic symptoms (eg, itching, urticaria, rash, and edema) after a single dose, or may manifest as severe idiosyncratic dermatologic reaction, usually after multiple doses.
1571533 tn?1322943509 Lidocaine (INN) ( /ˈlaɪdɵkeɪn/), Xylocaine, or lignocaine (former BAN) ( /ˈlɪɡnɵkeɪn/) is a common local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug. Lidocaine is used topically to relieve itching, burning and pain from skin inflammations, injected as a dental anesthetic or as a local anesthetic for minor surgery.
Avatar m tn Hello and Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am sorry that this has happened to you. Urine drug screens are looking for narcotics, THC and similar substances. Lidocaine is from the "cain" drug family of local numbing agents and not the "caine" drug family of cocaine an opiate. In spite of the similarity in names, these drugs are not very closely related chemically and their chemical structures are very different.
Avatar n tn Not to my knowledge, there is nothing that can cause a positive cocaine result.
Avatar m tn Drugs: lidocaine and triamcinolone acetonide injection. At night after lumbar paravertebral nerve block injection, the lower back skin burning sensation, numbness of the right groin hip hip the next day and radiation to the lower limbs, a heavy sense of her left leg, 5 days double legs pain to the heel, the activity increased after skin hypoesthesia. 8 days later, the abdominal perineal these symptoms, abdominal muscle spasms. Avatar f tn I had a follow-up PM appointment today. I haven't seen her in a couple of months. We stopped my Cymbalta about a month ago and it made a HUGE difference in how I feel mentally and emotionally. Apparently that wasn't the drug for me, and it makes no difference in my pain, which was the point of going on it to begin with. I had a terrible fibromyalgia flare-up before Thanksgiving. The worst in a long time. To the point I had to crawl up the stairs and go down on my bum.
18663 tn?1198171815 In the lists that follow, the generic name of the drug is given first, with the trade name, if available, following in parentheses and capitalized. Also, many times a particular generic drug is produced by different manufacturers with different trade names. The trade names mentioned in this article were selected by the author over other trade names purely by coincidence.
Avatar f tn Hi, whew, that's rough. I'm sorry! So, first. Lidocaine patches. What about lidocaine cream? It's cheap, REALLY cheap. I've gotten it on Amazon for under 6 dollars a tube. You can spend more as well and it is going to last you and go a lot further than 2 patches. And I use it and it is helpful. You could look for alternatives. They also make a spray, also inexpensive. Ketamine infusions I've heard are pretty amazing.
Avatar m tn In a simple dental procedure, I had what I can only describe as a seizure after getting what was supposed to be lidocaine and epinephrine injection. The area never got numb, and the pain from the point of the needle each time they attempted to inject me was painful. I was taken to the ER and released after 8 hours with no explanation. I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong?
Avatar n tn I am a 25 year old female and I had a seizure while having dental work done about 3 weeks ago. I had been given lidocaine and nitrous oxide. Following the appointment, I went to a neurologist and had a CT scan and an MRI done. Both showed no brain abnormalities. I had eclampsia 4 years ago and had seizures which resulted in the early delivery of my child. Aside from my seizures 4 years ago, I had no previous history of seizure disorder.
14051 tn?1238251732 The action of lidocaine is that it is a local anesthetic hence it prolongs the action of any drug when administered together. Keep me informed if you have any queries. Bye.
Avatar m tn Also I am prescribed lidocaine patches. Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic. I apply the patches to the affected area, they can be left on for up to 12 hours then you have 12 hours off. They work pretty well too particularly when it come to wearing shoes. That all that has been suggested to try by my pain Dr. I hope it helps.
Avatar n tn All 3 meds mentioned are class C drugs, which means none have been tested on pregnant women, but have shown to cause defomities or problems in laboratory animals. I would strongly think twice about getting pregnant while being on all of these meds. Ask yourself if the benefits out weigh the risks.
Avatar n tn The first thing to consider to whether the acid reflux has gotten worse. Nausea, throat pain, coughing, increased mucus... these are all symptoms of LPRD and GERD (with nausea being a symptom of possible delayed gastric emptying/dyspepsia). You can see abut a throat culture, but based on your description here, I don't know if that'll be enough to find the problem. Get yourself to a gastroenterologist and ask for an EGD.
Avatar f tn Beta-blockers and a number of class III anti-arrhythmics are commonly used. Lidocaine is now being replaced by amiodarone as the first line anti-arrhythmic treatment of VT. For some of the rare congenital syndromes of VT, other drugs, and sometimes even catheter ablation therapy may be useful. The implantation of an ICD is more effective than drug therapy for prevention of sudden cardiac death due to VT.
Avatar n tn He is behind his peers. He is also the youngest in his class. Prior teachers have mentioned his short attention span. He has no behavior problems. I have spent 3 entire days researching so I am fully prepared for his doctor appointment next week. I want to rule out any other causes for his attention. If he is diagnosed with ADD, I want to try everything before drugs.
Avatar f tn What are the odds of those of us that are suffering from from tooth decay and paying outrageously for doctors appointments, prescriptions, and now dentists and dental bills, what do we need or have to do to begin a class action lawsuit? Four members of my family have been on subutex for about 6 years some for general pain and some for addiction and we all have the same issues with decaying teeth and such. Our doctor has no means of tapering us off but we all have started ourselves.
Avatar n tn Trigger point inj are usually a cortisone drug and lidocaine mixed together. You also failed tp mention if the injection site is what hurts or a larger area of skin around injection is effected. Its hard to advise you without more specific information.
Avatar f tn With my first bb i never took a birthing class n i was gonna do it without the epadural too but the pain was so unbearable to where i had to get it!
