lialda and weight gain

I started on Lialda in February 2009....gained 10-15 pounds within 3 weeks. I have always been thin, I didn't even gain weight when I was on steroids! I have been working out and watching what I eat, but I can't seem to shed the pounds I gained. I even had a flare-up this winter (I usually drop 10-20 pounds during a flare) and didn't lose a single pound. I can't find any information about Lialda and weight gain.

Has anyone else experienced weight gain around the stomach while on Lialda? I've had UC for 22 years and have been on several different medications. I was on Prednisone for 14 years and never gained a pound. In February of 2009 I was put on Lialda after a 4 year remission. I gained 10 pounds within two weeks, all on my stomach. Last November, I had another flare that lasted 4 months (I never lost a pound even though I was eating very little).

Sigh...I tried Lialda for a month...the headaches were insane! My doc switched me to Asacol...my body wouldn't absorb them. So, I'm on my third med...Apriso...$248 for a one month supply! I don't see any real difference with anything so far...

I have been on Lialda for almost a year and recently noticed hair loss. Since I am also bruising very easily, it could be more related to an underlying anemia, not necessarily the Lialda itself.

I am currently taking lialda 2 capsules twice a day. I basically stopped taking the lialda because it made me feel worse than I already was. My question is is there a reason why the lialda makes me have pain in my gut. Are there any other new meds out there of UC? Are there any new surgeries to cure UC?

I started taking Lialda in August, 2008, and took it (3-1g tabs once per day) for 5 months before I got better. However, I am not sure whether to credit the Lialda or the Flora-Q I began taking after three months into my treatment. I have lymphocytic colitis so this may not pertain directly to your diagnosis, but I hope it helps.

hi--i've been on lialda approx.6-7 months...better than the other i was on..sounds like uc..i was diagnosed in feb 2009..

s very stabbing and also I have lower back pain. The later after I drink and eat something and do my daily work it disappears for the rest of the day. Sometimes in between I feel a pinch on both sides but that is not so troubling. I am so feeling dizzy especially in the morning and late evening. Could anyone please help me out with this. It would be highly appreciated.

s for the last 5yrs and am on 5mg of Prednisone/day as well just being switched to Lialda 2.4gms/day (from Pentasa 4gms/day) one month ago. I was started on Famvir today-500mg tid. I am leaving for Hawaii on Wednesday and am scheduled to swim with the dolphins on Thursday. I have completed my first full day's dose of medicine and will continue until the prescription is completed. I am then staying on a maintenance dose of 250mg/day until I can get the vaccine in 6mos at age 60.

I don't know what meds you're taking but often the drug companies have assistance programs and will provide you with discounts and even free medications. Years ago, I was between insurance coverage and couldn't afford Lipitor, and I just had to have my doctor fill out a paper, prove my income, and they covered all the expenses.

I don't want to play doctor here or anything, but I was in a similar situation for several years. My apartment got broken into, then I moved home, and then my house literally got hit by lightening. I started taking lexapro for the Post-Traumatic Stress. I'd always been a bit of a snacker and stress-eater, but I a burdensome amount of weight from it. I asked my doctor about other alternatives to the Lexapro, and she suggested Welbutrin.

When I was taking Prozac I didnt gain weight.Paxcel made me gain some though.

How long did it take people to gain weight, if any on Methimazole. I want to gain weight and nothing has happened. I've been on it for about a month now.

This is the time in your life more than ever that you should be eating healthy and exercising regularly. Expect to gain weight ; that is healthy and necessary for most women, but if the gain happens too quickly you MUST Work with your OB to ensure that you are as healthy as possible. I would really listen to Alaysha's advice personally.. She's a model and one of the most stunning pregnant women I've ever seen, so I'd follow her rules for healthy weight gain personally lol.

I have taken quite a bit of different antibiotics back in May. I have stopped taking it a about 3 weeks ago, maybe longer and noticed that I have a hard time gaining weight now. I have had bad anxiety and depression as well recently which may have caused my appetite to go down drastically but when it comes back I start to eat a lot and it doesn't seem like I can gain weight like I used too.

Keep in mind you could gain weight on Zoloft or any ssri, and your weight gain on Paxil has been minimal -- I gained 50 pounds over several years on it. And be careful going off it, it can be difficult. Do it slowly and carefully.

SSRIs are notorious for weight gain, but Prozac has less of a weight gain potential (compared to say Paxil). Your weight gain may be natural - over the course of 20 years. Or it may be the result of the Prozac. But 2-3 pounds per year to gain from an SSRI is not very much. I was on Lexapro for 2-3 years and gained nearly 40 pounds in that time.

It does make sense to take Abilify during the day if its keeping a person awake at night as it can be activating. If not it won't make a difference as regards weight gain. Abilify is the least likely out of the antipsychotics to cause weight gain. I have posted about the antipsychotics in development that won't do this but they still are not approved medications yet. If you were diagnosed with bipolar with psychotic features you need an antipsychotic.

I read some articles about this just yesterday and was surprised, for I take Lantus and have noticed no weight gain at all. So this could be a factor. However, a change in metabolism in middle age probably is the real culprit, along with possibly a slower metabolism because you are not eating. Exercise should help both problems. Start walking! Park your car further from the door, take stairs instead of elevators, etc. Or use your lunch hour to do some mild exercise right in your office.
