asacol and weight gain

Hi, I was diagnosed with Crohn's a little over 3 years ago. I also was VERY sick for quite a while until they found out what was wrong and brought it under control. I've had a couple small bouts since, mostly during the first year 1/2. I have since felt so good and yes gained all of my weight back PLUS.

I was having increased fatigue and also an increase in my appetite w/o weight gain but did notice paler more frequent, voluminous stools. My GP referred me to a gastroenterologist who found no conclusive causes for my symptoms after checking blood work and a stool culture. Continued to trudge through my daily routines assuming the added responsibility of motherhood was the cause of my sub-par feeling.

The idea is to get off the steroids asap but make sure the bleeding is stopped. The other thing is to increase the Asacol right away to get the UC under control and adjust her dosage to manage it. If she is still having trouble then she needs to treat it from both ends, so get her GI to prescribe an enema nightly with her regular Asacol orally but it's very important to get her off the prednezone. It's bad taking it continuously.

My doctor put me on Asacol and I had horrible uncontrollable diarrhea. I took it for a few months and decided constipation was less painful and embarressing than diarrhea. You may try drinking Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with honey. It's a natural remedy for reducing inflammation and it works.

I enjoy the Lialda because I was taking 3 pills three times a day with Asacol and now I only take 4 pills once a day with Lialda. I haven't been on the Lialda for very long, but so far the results are good. I'm not sure that it is better than Asacol, but I think it is easier and equal in performance. You might ask your doctor if they have any prescription cards for Lialda. My doctor was given cards from Lialda, which you can use with your insurance.

I started Asacol almost two weeks ago, and it worked very well after a couple of days, but after almost two weeks, I got very weak, dizzy spells, fatigue, like the flu. It's been five days, and most of the time I need to lay down. I couldn't go to work today. When does it stop? I stopped the medication four days ago. It was for colitis.

Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead). If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future.

I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?

After having her, I had CD and went to a GI doctor and got diagnosed with Crohns. With medicine (ASACOL) all my symptons went away in about 4 months.. Then I got pregant with my son in 2005 and I had a great pregnancy.. no problems, no symptons of Crohns. The day I gave birth to him, my Crohns came back with a vengance. All my symptons came back and they were worse than before. This time, my medicine (ASACOL) didnt work and had to go with something stronger.

My brother had UC - I believe there were times when the prednisone and I think it was Asacol would force it into remission - which I believe is the best that can be hoped for.

I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?

Is there a program where my son can get help with his Rx for asacol? He does not have insurance.

saw him on the 5th and called him yesterday to remind him of my liver concern and he said the asacol would be okay. I also have a question for Dr Schiano to get his thoughts. Thank you...I will do some more checking...I did get the pamphlets from my drugstore concerning the asacol and checked online. UGH....I just dont want to do more damage.

ve stared fish oil and quercetin (natural anti-inflammatories), but should I accept the Asacol in an attempt to quell the autoantibody activity in my system and prevent a worse disease? I feel like a ticking time-bomb!

been quite bad with a few painfull flareups lots of blood etc/ currently on pentasa and steriods at the moment/ started the pentasa last tuesday after a bad flareup/ just wonderd if any one could tell me there experiance on pentasa , and how long they took to work ?

Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal. I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain.

Dosage should be properly followed and if u are experiencing digestive or renal problems, consult your doctor. Alcohol can increase the chances of a fatty liver and if u feel some type of pain and inflammation in your liver region, then consult your doctor.

I don't want to play doctor here or anything, but I was in a similar situation for several years. My apartment got broken into, then I moved home, and then my house literally got hit by lightening. I started taking lexapro for the Post-Traumatic Stress. I'd always been a bit of a snacker and stress-eater, but I a burdensome amount of weight from it. I asked my doctor about other alternatives to the Lexapro, and she suggested Welbutrin.

When I was taking Prozac I didnt gain weight.Paxcel made me gain some though.

How long did it take people to gain weight, if any on Methimazole. I want to gain weight and nothing has happened. I've been on it for about a month now.

This is the time in your life more than ever that you should be eating healthy and exercising regularly. Expect to gain weight ; that is healthy and necessary for most women, but if the gain happens too quickly you MUST Work with your OB to ensure that you are as healthy as possible. I would really listen to Alaysha's advice personally.. She's a model and one of the most stunning pregnant women I've ever seen, so I'd follow her rules for healthy weight gain personally lol.

I have taken quite a bit of different antibiotics back in May. I have stopped taking it a about 3 weeks ago, maybe longer and noticed that I have a hard time gaining weight now. I have had bad anxiety and depression as well recently which may have caused my appetite to go down drastically but when it comes back I start to eat a lot and it doesn't seem like I can gain weight like I used too.

Keep in mind you could gain weight on Zoloft or any ssri, and your weight gain on Paxil has been minimal -- I gained 50 pounds over several years on it. And be careful going off it, it can be difficult. Do it slowly and carefully.
