Levoxyl is indeed a brand name levothyroxine, like Synthroid. It's the only brand my insurance covers, that's why I take it. It's works out best for me but the name has been a real pain.
Now, before leaving the pharmacy counter I have to take my med out of the bag, read it and make sure it says 'Levoxyl - 112 mcg.
I switched from generic to a brand name because my endo insisted on it (I guess we have to pick our battles). At one time or another I've been on Synthroid, Levoxyl and generic, and I saw absolutely no difference between them. However, some people do have issues with fillers, and those vary maufacturer to manufacturer.
Interestingly, when my endo switched me from generic to Levoxyl (no dose change) my labs actually got a bit worse, and I had to up my dose of Levoxyl slightly.
My endo insisted on switching me from generic to a name brand. After the switch, my labs actually got a little worse on the same dosage. A small increase in Levoxyl (from 69 to 75 mcg) brought me back to previous levels.
Different name brands or generics work well fo some of us and not for others. It's always best to stick with what works for you.
Do you have recent labs and ranges to post? Ranges vary lab to lab so have to come from your own lab report.
Hi, there is anyone else having to deal with this Levoxyl recall? I have had hypothyroidism for 18 years. Diagnosed with Hashimoto's 8 years ago. I was on levothyroxine 100 for many years and did great. Then something changed, Hashimoto's Dr.s said...Been on Levoxyl 75 for 4 years and have never felt good. Tried Armour, too much t3 for me, I swelled up on Sinthroid. I am ok on Levoxyl I guess but now they had to give me the generic because of the recall.
Levoxyl is NOT generic levothyroxine. Levoxyl is another brand name, just like Synthroid, but from a different manufacturer. Were you on Levoxyl or generic levothyroxine? If you are prescribed Levoxyl, it's just like being prescribed Synthroid, and it always comes from the same manufacturer. If you are prescribed generic levo, the pharmacy can change its supplier at any time, and you do not know where your next refill is coming from.

I have found that any of the brand names and the generic can make arrythmias worse. I have been on generic, Synthroid and Levoxyl at one time or another, and they all cause increased episodes of tachycardia. In my case, I think it's the actual medicine in the pills that causes the tachy, not the fillers. I'm also on a beta blocker to control the tachy.
My guess is that it's your increase that has caused the PVCs, not the generic versus Synthroid.
I still felt the same symptoms and my TSH stayed at the same level, I asked my Endo. why and he said the generic was sometimes not as consistant as the name brand, I just think it did not work for me, because many do OK on Levo, six weeks after I started on Synthroid, my TSH dropped from 6.8 to 0.078
and it was the same strength as the Levo I had been taking.
ve always insisted on name brand, but have had a doctor accidentally write a script for generic once before and it didn't work. In December, after years of looking at my blood work in my patient portal and questioning why certain numbers came back high and certain came back low; however, my doctors didn't seem to care, I insisted on another test, in which the numbers came back high again. At this same visit, we determined I have a gluten sensitivity and I went on a gluten free diet.
The FDA has determined that generic Levothyroxine and brand-name Synthroid and Levoxyl are equivalent. The FDA requires all drugs, both brand-names and their generic counterparts, to be proven safe and effective. Since generics use the same active ingredients and are shown to work the same way in the body as their brand-name counterparts, they also have the same risks and benefits. From my re/search, I have found the Levoxyl has the least inactive ingredients.
