My doc recently doubled my Armor dosage from 120mg to 240mg taken simultaneously. Has anyone experienced this dramatic of an increase? Wouldn't this be the equivalent of 400mcg of levoxyl or synthroid? Hashi's ...been on Armor about 10 mos...switched from Levoxyl 150mcg to 90mg Armor...upped to 120mg in Nov....now DOUBLED?
Any thoughtful opinions would be appreciated...
The new endo said (to cut it short) sometimes people do better on Synthroid vs. Levoxyl so she wanted to try me on it for 2mths. I have been on various dosage of Levoxyl, and either my levels would be too high or too low, and I would feel terrible. My question is, is there really a difference between the two. She changed the brand but the dosage is the same. My other endo was changing me every 4 - 6 weeks, and she feels maybe my body had not adjusted to the dosage in that period of time.
Levoxyl is the same as it was before it was recalled. I've been on it since August 2014 and have done very well with it.
What T4 med & dosage were you on when you tried cytomel before? What dosage of cytomel and how did you take it - all at once or multiple times/day?
Hello again. I recently switched from levoxyl to armour. I was alternating 75 one day and 88 the next. I started taking armour at 1 grain and now I believe I'm sliding backward again. Could it be possible that I should need more than the 1 grain. I can not get test done for another week but I do not want to slide back more into hypo he\\. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
100mcg of levothyroxine is about 60mg of armour -- you need to work with a doctor to make sure the conversion works out for you and that labs are appropriate.
I was taking 88mcg of Levoxyl and started having anxiety, so my doctor changed my dosage to 65 mcg. 3 weeks ago I started losing my hair so I went for my doctor's appointment and they did lab work and found my TSI levels were high (12) and they wanted them to be below (4) so they increased my dosage to 100mcg. I am still having hair loss everyday and I am afraid I will go bald before my levels are stabilized. I'm hoping the increased dosage of Levoxyl will stop my hair loss.
Anyone making the switch back to Levoxyl since it's back? Did they change the formula?

There really is no other explanation for my weight gain. Looks like the doctor will lower my dosage of Levoxyl and keep me on Cytomel. I just have too much thyroid hormone in my body I guess?
Synthroid made me feel really shaky, nervous, gave me dry mouth, etc. I felt fine on Levoxyl until I gained all this unexplainable weight and just recently have been feeling really bad, such as chest pains, shortness of breath.
11 years later my dosage of levoxyl continues to go up. My Endo first ascribes this to my not being med compliant, then tells me it must be that I'm a mother and work full time, then tells me I'm lazy and I dont' exercise enough.... UGH! anyway my question is this.... if it is an autoimmune disease and it is treated with Levoxyl is that meant to be a cure??? is there a cure? or will my body continue to attack my thyroid gland?
I am thinking about switching from levoxyl to armour because I can not get leveled on levoxyl and I'm wondering if there is a waiting period before taking armour.
Hi, I am switchcing from levoxyl to armour. When on the levoxyl I had to use .88 one day and .75 the next to come close to keeping a decent level, although my T3 is below normal. Now in coverting to armour, should I take 1/2 grain or 3/4 grain? Also, how long will it take for levoxyl to be gone from my body and the armour to kick in by itself. I am sort of afraid to go through the hypo he// I've expereienced for 2 years now. Any ideas out there?
Synthroid, Levoxyl, and other brands of generic Levothyroxine all have comparable doses.
If you switch brands from generic to Synthroid, the dose would remain the same unless your doctor changes your dosage for some reason.
Since then (about 2 years now) my TSH level has varied. I was on 350 mcg of Levoxyl and tested at .9, I was then put on 300 mcg of Levoxyl and tested at 25, then I was put on 350 mcg of Levoxyl and 25 mcg of Cytomel and tested at .003. I am currently on 325 mcg of Levoxyl and 12.5 mcg of Cytomel. My question is after two years of constant medication should my TSH level be so hard to get under control?
After TT I was prescribed 125mg of Levoxyl. Five weeks after RAI my TSH was still over 30. Endo advised me to double my 125mg for 5 days, then switched me to 150. I'm about to have more blood work but based on how I feel, I suspect my TSH will still be elevated. Am I expecting too much to have a TSH in the normal range 12 weeks after RAI? I feel so fatigued about 95% of the time and seem to be loosing more hair than normal lately. Any words of wisdom?
regardless of being told Levoxyl will keep me from being symptomatic, will it also keep me from losing weight? Is Levoxyl inhibiting my metabolism from losing weight as well as gaining it. Last year for six months I kept my diet to 2000 calories , circuit trained everyday and maybe lost 5 pounds. I'm 240 pounds.....
It states on the Levoxyl drug website that: In patients with severe hypothyroidism, the recommended initial levothyroxine sodium dose is 12.5-25 mcg/day with increases of 25 mcg/day every 2-4 weeks, accompanied by clinical and laboratory assessment, until the TSH level is normalized.
Does anyone know why?
could i be considered "severe hypothyroidism" with TSH of 102 and Free T4 .17?
If so, why would my doc want me to start with 88mcg - 100mcg?
