Avatar m tn those are the levothyroxine sodium, water, glycerin and gelatin. The levo in synthetic hormones, such as generic levo, Synthroid, Tirosint, Levoxyl, etc is identical to what your body would produce, if it could. All options for medication should be considered.
168348 tn?1379360675 I saw this in Endrocine Today (4/1/13) The American Thyroid Association has acknowledged a recall of levothyroxine sodium, according to a statement on their website. The drug may not be available until 2014. http://www.healio.
Avatar m tn The reason I asked was this language but now I see it is only for OVERTREATMENT with levo Overtreatment with Levothyroxine sodium may have adverse cardiovascular effects such as an increase in heart rate, cardiac wall thickness, and cardiac contractility and may precipitate angina or arrhythmias.
738890 tn?1232217879 it's ignorant and arrogant beyond measure. To also describe your intolerance to Levothyroxine Sodium, (and associated symptoms), as psychosomatic is ignorant and lacking in any kind of diagnostic acumen. There are literally thousands of cases, scrupulously documented on the web; people giving personal, detailed testimony as to their problems on that synthetic drug. The guy sounds like an idiot, ditch him! Some things that might help, bananas and turkey.
Avatar m tn I want to know could be their any problem if a person who is using thyroxine sodium for treatment change to other one or from levothyroxine to thyroxine is changed, Could both of them any significant role in replacement. It may alter treatment process.

535882 tn?1396580285 0) never came down, When I started being treated by an Endo he explained that Levothyroxine ( A Generic) was not as consistant as a Name Brand (Synthroid) he put me on Synthroid 100 mg and within 6 weeks my Tsh dropped to 0.078, now I am on 75 mg and due back at the end of May for another blood work. Although everyone is different, some do better on some drugs and some do not.
Avatar n tn I would like to know why manufacturer's use levothyroxine rather than thyroxine in their thyroid medications? I have noticed that the levothyroxine has a sodium atom, heavier molar wieght and different structural formula. Isomers are known not to function like the parent compound. So why levothyroxine and not thyroxine in thyroid meds?
Avatar n tn The new Aetna plan I am on is charging me $50 per month and I am told that I can take Levothyroxine Sodium for only $10 a month. Is there any downside to switching to this generic alternative?
1107393 tn?1263421338 Is one a generic of the other? Which one is best? I was told that Synthyroid was better but more expensive that levothyroxine. Thanks for any input. I am a newbee.
Avatar n tn There is a difference in Generic Levothyroxine and Name Brand Like Synthroid, I went from 10mg to 25, 50, 75, and finally 100 mg of Levothyroxine (Generic) At that time I started seeing an Endo, He informed me that when it comes to thyroid meds, Generics are not as consistant as name brand meds, all during this prior period my symptoms were all over the place, they would stop for a few days then reappear and I would feel bad for two days, The Endo put me on a name brand (Synthroid) 100mg, at thi
Avatar f tn Hi :) I just started Levothyroxine 50 micrograms yesterday so I've had it twice now. I feel extremely tired...more than before. I've also felt cold off and on and kind of flushed. I was having flushing before but not feeling very cold. The med was called in for me when labs showed high tsh. She just said it was over 5, she didn't tell me the actual level. I wish I would have asked more questions. I follow up in 6 weeks. Are these normal side effects as my body adjusts to the med?
Avatar m tn My question is, am I likely to have caused myself permanent damage by stupidly taking iodine supplements as well as levothyroxine for six weeks? I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid about six weeks ago and put on 25mcg levothyroxine daily. At the time, I suspected that the vegan diet I had been following for nearly a decade had probably caused the thyroid problem, as vegan diets can be notoriously low in iodine.
Avatar f tn Barb is right about the fillers as my brother is lactose intolerant and many pill form medications have lactose as a partial filler. I have been switched from a higher dosage to a lower dosage of Synthroid a few times over the past few years. I've been on thyroid medication for about 30 years and recently I had an array of symptoms where I thought I had pneumonia because I was so weak and my chest felt like someone was sitting on it.
Avatar f tn All Synthroid is levothyroxine, but not all levothyroxine is Synthroid........ There are several different manufacturers that produce brand name levothyroxine, such as Tirosint (gel cap), Levoxyl, Levothroid, Unithroid, etc....... You could be on one of the other brands, but if the VA does not allow brand names, you'd be on generic levothyroxine. Besides those name brands, there are still other manufacturers that produce generic and each one uses different fillers/binders.
1150172 tn?1302136101 Hi - I've had symptoms of hypothyroidism for a few years now, but bloodwork remains just within normal limits. Since we've tried everything else, my doctor grudgingly agreed to try Levothyroxine in case it was indeed, hypothyroidism. He started me very low, and gradually increased the dose to .100MCG 2x per day. ...but I have NO improvement other than I'm sleeping somewhat better at night. Beyond that, if it's doing anything at all, it's making me MORE TIRED during the day.
7991152 tn?1396065410 All Synthroid is levothyroxine sodium, but not all levothyroxine sodium is Synthroid. There are several "brands" of levothyroxine sodium... Synthroid and Levoxyl are the 2 main ones. Then there are also several manufacturers of generic levothyroxine sodium. All manufacturers are allowed a certain "tolerance", meaning their products can vary by a certain amount. Some argue that generics are not as good as brand names.
Avatar f tn 43 (low), Free T3 3.83 (in normal range). I was prescribed by my Internist 25MCG of Levothyroxine Sodium. because I needed more T4 (she said). With the new medication I noticed anxiety, hot flash increase, dizziness, shakiness, jittery, moody. I had blood test on 8-5-2016 Free T4: 1.04 (.71-1.7 range), TSH: .297 ((.270-4.20 range), Free T3: 4.43 I2.5-4.3 range) At this time my doctor told me to take half of a pill of the Lexothyroxine.
Avatar f tn I just switched from Synthroid to the generic levothyroxine sodium. I swear I feel differently. I feel more wired and my feet don't hurt anymore -- kinda spaced out. I also feel itchy. But I also felt itchy when i first took the Synthroid and that went away. It has only been two days on the generic. I have been on Synthroid for 2 weeks and a few days. I started to feel the effects of Synthroid about the 5th day. My symptoms started to abate. I feel better to say the LEAST.

Avatar m tn “For most patients older than 50 years or for patients under 50 years of age with underlying cardiac disease, an initial starting dose of 25-50 mcg/day of levothyroxine sodium is recommended, with gradual increments in dose at 6-8 week intervals, as needed. The recommended starting dose of levothyroxine sodium in elderly patients with cardiac disease is12.5-25 mcg/day , with gradual dose increments at 4-6 week intervals. Avatar n tn I was found to have mild hypothyroidism and was prescribed Levothyroxine sodium 50mcg daily by my doctor. I started taking the medicine and a week later, I had severe gas problem in my abdomen (more in the lower abdomen) and muscle cramps at the lower back region. I thought it was due to some foodstuff related gas problem. It persisted for 2 days. When I took simethicone (Phazyme 180mg softgel), the bloaty feeling subsided and muscle cramps subsided.
1018470 tn?1251337123 I'm wondering if I could get to advice as to how much Naturthroid to start verses my Levothyroxine. I have looked up the conversion from Naturthroid's website, but everyone says to go slow. I just had blood work done last Thursday (2-28-13). I haven't gotten the lab report yet, but hoping I will from my doctor's office today. I know I'm probably asking to soon before you have my new labs, but I am wanting to get some good advice .
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed having an under active thyroid about 1.5 years ago, my results being "borderline". I am now on 50mg of levothyroxine sodium. Recently I have developed a itchy red rash and it keeps on spreading! Please help! Is this an affect of levothyroxine? When I was initially diagnosed I was also severely anemic, which can also be a cause of my symptoms, fatigue, hair loss, weight gain etc...
