Avatar f tn Wow thanks Stephen and Staff. Nice to know that. But, we cannot donate blood right? I was a regular blood donor till 5 years ago (roughly) that time they did not find hbv in my blood. But now it's better I so not donate? Or I can donate to another HBv person?
Avatar f tn http://hepatitis.about.com/od/questions/f/OrganDonor.htm By all means…donate if you are able, many people are in need. They may not go to someone who is not infected with hep, but it just may end up saving a fellow heppers life or even someone that is a member of our forum.
Avatar m tn The plaintiffs in the case argued that bone marrow donation is not so different from blood, plasma, sperm, or egg donation, which are not protected under the National Organ Transplant Act.
Avatar f tn I really hate to disagree with you but my understanding is that having HCV antibodies or even active HCV doesn't automatically prohibit one from being listed as an organ donor. There are very few diseases which absolutely preclude organ donation - HIV is one. At the time of death medical experts will determine whether any tissue or organ are suitable to be used.

398059 tn?1447945633 According to Alberta Health Services, organ and tissue donation is still an option for patients with MS, hepatitis, and diabetes. 1103179 tn?1260208148 This is definitely a question that you need to bring up to your surgeon before your surgery in May. Organ donation is a wonderful thing and recipients now do so well because of the advances that have been made in this area. To see if you would be a good donor for your daughter you would have to have compatible blood types, compatible tissue types and they would have to be crossmatched to assure the lowest risk of rejection. Is your daughter already on the transplant list?
Avatar f tn Transplant professionals will evaluate the condition of your organs at the time of your death and determine if your organs are suitable for donation. You should consider yourself a potential organ and tissue donor, indicate your intent to donate on your driver's license, donor card, or state donor registry, and discuss your decision with family members.

648910 tn?1290663083 m not sure about the organ donation since I have confirmed MS. I was looking at their site this past week and started to call the national organization with the question but got sidetracked. Perhas I'll get it done this week - if so, I will let you know the answer. What got me started again was doing the blood donation since we are now approved to donate blood.
Avatar f tn You can go to bethematch.com and request a donation kit after 28 weeks preg. I'm on my 4th child and I have donated with my previous 3. The most common hospitals that use be the match is st Jude's children's hospital and cancer centers of america. Both are non profit hospitals. And of course st Jude's only treats children.

Avatar f tn What a wonderful article, Trish, thanks for posting. I know of bone marrow registries, but this takes it to a whole different level. We often talk about organ donation after death, but what Ms. Taylor did is absolutely phenomenal. It's so sad that in many other countries organs have become a trade commodity, but perhaps programs like this will help eliminate that growing black market.
53186 tn?1225749549 I've attempted organ donation on and off since my teenage years - sometimes with greater discrimination for the intended recipients than others. My pitch is not unlike frijole's: "Hey c'mon, it's better than death, right?" Actually, I've carried a donor card since I was 16. It's a lot less likely anyone's gonna want my left over parts these days, but you never know. Donating your body to medical research is another way to go, so to speak.
