Levothyroxine and calcium interactions

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine and calcium interactions

Avatar m tn All you do is type in the drugs you're on (otc and other) and it will tell you what interactions are known with it. And if all else fails and you're unsure you can always call up your local pharmacy. They will be able to tell you if a specific drug will react to another.
482089 tn?1208355476 Had my thyroid checked about three months ago my TSH was 7. Was put on 50mg levothyroxine and was fine for around 5 weeks and then it seemed to build up in my system and i got these horendous headaches. Had to stop taking the medication as I couldn't stand the headaches. Started again a couple of weeks later at 25mg and after three weeks the same happened again. I need to take the medication but cannot cope with these headaches, whats the answer, anyone else experienced this.
Avatar n tn Almost all the oddities began AFTER I started taking levothyroxine, and yet overall, it has seemed to me that I was deteriorating rapidly into unwellness anyway, and levothyroxine has been a good thing...but oh, the ups and downs have been something else again. AppleJacs, I am glad that you have a physician you trust, and I am glad that she has referred you to an endocrinologist.
427801 tn?1203848162 my question is, some of these are supposed to be taken at certain times/doses and some should or cant be taken with other items (i.e. calcium). so im looking to get as much input as possible into the dosing, dosing schedule, and counterindications of other meds/foods.
Avatar n tn My last bone scan showed that I had actually rebuilt bone, previously lost to osteopenia - yes, in spite of my suppressed TSH. This involved implementing a regimen of calcium, magnesium and vitamin D. My FT3 is not quite to the upper 1/3 of the range yet, but endo did give me a slight increase in T3, in order to try to bump it up; I'll retest late this month to see where I'm at. I'm on synthetic med(s) - Tirosint @ 88 mcg with generic T3 @ 7.
Avatar n tn i was over the moon when they told me i was actually ill and didn't just have man flu.. my levothyroxine hasn't been with out teething prob's but it is generally massively helping. i have subsequently managed to drag my dad to the dr's (he hasn't seen a dr in years) low a behold = hypo... i strongly suspect my brother is, he totally fits the autoimmune hypo picture, he is going for bloods this week..... men you are not alone!!

Avatar n tn I was prescribed Topamax along with an appetite suppressant (Adipex) for weight loss a bit over a year ago and stopped taking them after two and a half months. I did not lose all of the weight I had wanted to, but most of it. I had gained 55 pounds while on Paxil over the course of two and a half years. By taking a combination of the two medicines, I lost 22 pounds the first month, 10 pounds the second month, and 8 pounds the first half of the third month.
Avatar n tn For now, I am omitting a bunch of details about my medical situation and just saying that there was a two-month lag between my beginning to be impaired and my starting to take levothyroxine. Then as we all know all too well, getting established on the right dose of levothyroxine is NOTHING like taking a ten-day course of an antibiotic and you are back to normal. As a result, my boss has been through six difficult months with me.
687079 tn?1230952212 8 but I felt hypothyroid even though I was having heart palpitations and severe anxiety attacks. I went off levothyroxine and felt even worse, right now tsh is at 3.4 but t4 is at 1.7, I still feel hypothyroid, awful with zero energy, depressed, anxious. My question is could I be hypothyroid at those levels. Doctors give me conflicting answers. One says I don't need thyroid meds, another says I do?
Avatar f tn he had his thyroid removed and radio iodine treatment and all is well but he is still been drinking heavily since then and is on all kinds of medications. (levothyroxine, alfalcalcidol, calcichew, bendroflumethiazide, candesartan and citalopram). Since all this medication and booze, he has changed, he says he loves me but he doesnt know if he can be with me.
Avatar f tn I drink coffee with creamer as well, but I wait an hour after taking my thyroid pill (which is pure TORTURE!). It's just the calcium suppliments or "calcium-fortified" foods and some iron fortified, that should not be taken with your thyroid pill(s). Hopefully these links will post. If not, just google "thyroid drug interactions". thyroid.about.com/od/thyroiddrugstreatments/a/bedtime.htm thyroid.about.com/cs/thyroiddrugs/ht/takemeds.
Avatar m tn When I first started thyroxine, I had a week of hyperthyroid symptoms followed by a month of worsening hypothyroid symptoms. At first I had too much thyroid hormone then my thyroid gland decided to lower its thyroid hormone production in response to medication. Sounds like to me you are in the same boat - worsening of hypothyroid symptoms. And 200mcg is far too high to start with. Drugs website - Levothyroxine Dosage... Usual Adult Dose for Hypothyroidism Oral: The initial dose is 12.
252327 tn?1250187576 I take mine first thing in the morning. Because I also have insomnia, I tend to wake up at 3am and so I have a cup of water and my levothyroxine on the night stand so I take it at 3am. Or whenever I wake up. I do that mostly because I never knew how long you had to go without eating before you had an empty stomach (if I was going to take it in the evening).
Avatar f tn Magnesium competes with calcium for absorption and can cause a calcium deficiency if calcium levels are already low. Some medications may lower magnesium levels in the body. These include chemotherapy drugs, diuretics, digoxin (Lanoxin), hormonal supplementation, steroids, and certain antibiotics. Possible Interactions: If you are currently being treated with any of the following medications, you should not use magnesium without first talking to your health care provider.
176838 tn?1211463974 I take it at Night 112mcg... I never had problems sleeping 95%I'm able to fall asleep in 10 mins. No noticed n changes except I seem to lose more weight with calorie restruction. Avatar n tn At any exertion, sweat would pour from his head and the rest of his body and he would continue sweating for a long time afterwards. Heartburn and acid reflux, especially at night. Flushing in the face, without apparent reason. His doctor diagnosed him with depression. Against his grain, he agreed to try different anti-depressants but things kept getting worse. Apart from all of the other symptoms, he started having some episodes that his doctor described as panic attacks.
Avatar n tn I am taking synthroid medication, Do any of those vitamins have any interactions with they medication, and if not, when is a good time to take them.
Avatar m tn Hypothyroidism is safely and effectively treated with the synthetic thyroid hormone levothyroxine. Generally, there's no hypothyroidism diet. Although claims about hypothyroidism diets abound, there's no evidence that eating or avoiding certain foods will improve thyroid function. If you have hypothyroidism, take thyroid hormone replacement as directed by your doctor — generally on an empty stomach.

390388 tn?1279639813 I asked about all of the things I found including bld work so that is when she went over them with me and told me I had low iron, low sugar, low calcium and low thyroid issues and high hsCRP. Now my chest pains aren't as bad and I very seldom feel my heartbeat now (which is great), my face is not red all the time now -----all good news; but, I"M BEAT. I have one good day followed by 1-2 really bad days where I can just barely function mentally or physically.
Avatar f tn Also, I've had a cold for the past week or so, and I was taking Dayquil until I realized that you're not supposed to take it with a thyroid condition (I actually found this forum while searching for the interactions between dayquil and hypothyroidism.) So, I'm not sure if I just feel worse because of the cold. Either way, I don't think the cold alone can account for all of my symptoms. Additionally, I've had a yeast infection this week.
Avatar m tn Can this possibly pinpoint whether I have a misfunctioning pituatary gland or hypothalimus gland? Should I also have my cortisol levels, calcium levels, and male hormone levels checked as well as I understand they all tie in together in regulating the TSH? I do have a doctor's appt scheduled to follow up again. The only medications I've had changed since I had leveled back off was my prozac was changed to prestiq.

263988 tn?1281957896 Fast forward to 2007, still being under treated and now experiencing extreme symptoms; fluctuating back and forth from very hot and sweating to ice cold and temperature plummeting to 95.8 with shaking chills, extreme fatigue, insomnia, chest pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, exhaustion and more. Endo diagnosed me with Hashi's in mid-July. Fall of 2007, diagnosed with perimyocarditis and very ill with complications - hospitalized three times in CCU.
Avatar n tn even when I'm lazy with my other vitamins, I can always take D and B-12, and the taste is good too. The sub-lingual D3 doesn't have any soy or calcium. The brand I found is L.A. Naturals, and I feel much better since I've started taking it. Strangely enough, it's manufactured in Indiana, not L.A., where I live. I don't test positive for Hashi's , although my sister has it, so I can't speak to whether it affects your levels or not. All I know is that these brands work for me.
Avatar n tn i'm so cold, too half the time and my feet feel like ice when i take my socks and slippers off. my hands are always cold when i get to church--and i play the piano for the first meeting. i'm just feeling frustrated with the doc i have to deal with. my sister is dealing with a doc in conn. that seems to be doping her alot of good.
