Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin with food

levaquin

Avatar f tn I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.

Avatar m tn After the 8th day of taking levaquin, i had the problem of not able to swallow food.. Stopped levaquin and UTI went away. Since then, i had a feeling that something is stuck in throat and particularly at nites, i was not able to sleep properly. had mylanta and prilosec and the situation got improved.. doctor recommended aciphex and currently i am on that..
Avatar f tn Here is a great article about food interactions with drugs sometimes used to treat Lyme and coinfections. I have been on a few of the meds listed in the artIcle, and I was unaware of these conflicts, especially dairy / calcium with the tetracyclines (Doxycycline, Minocycline) & fluroquinolones (Cipro, Avelox, Levaquin). It also mentions that caffeine, and therefore chocolate, can interfere with some antibiotics, but then doesn't say which ones. http://health.yahoo.
Avatar f tn Back in January of 2012, in a report created based on the primary objective of a heart scan, the doctor also mentioned his discovery of "minimal centrilobular emphysema." My primary care doctor didn't send me to a pulmonary specialist because there is nothing (I was told) that can be done about it. However, in the past two years I have now had some pretty bad brushes with bronchitis and now am fighting a nearly month-old issue with coughing and head congestion.
Avatar f tn My prior medical history is gastroparesis (of unknown etiology) and was just recently treated for a sinus infection with Levaquin 750 mg for 5 days. I was also very nauseous and dizzy today for several hours. Had a vague pain behind my eyes. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn I would recommend that you take the Levaquin with dinner tonight (it is supposed to be taken with food) and then enjoy the evening with your husband so you can both monitor your symptoms. If you have the difficulty breathing again, you should go to an ER. Also, if you are an asthmatic, you probably just need to use your inhaler on a regular basis while you get over this infection. That will help open your airways so that you can breathe better. Feel better.
Avatar f tn I went to the dr. today and was dx with a UTI. I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
Avatar n tn With all that said, in the future, whether he can afford the ER or not, it's a good idea to have any new chest pain evaluated. The finances can be worked out later, the effects of a heart attack may not give any other option. And, yes, caregiver, I prefer Cipro to Levaquin because of the cost difference.
Avatar n tn i am taking levaquin, is that a good coverage for my clinical presentation and what is the side effect to expect from this drug.
Avatar m tn Yes, before I became allergic to the stuff I did recall feeling quite a bit of joint pain with that class of medication. I used to take care of patients who were placed on levaquin for infection and noted that they would sometimes get what we nurses called "The Levaquin Shuffle". The affected patients would walk in a shuffle and complain of joint pain especially in the knees. In my case, yes, the pain did go away after a bit.
Avatar f tn t even believe it was a kidney infection. So, to treat this infection, they put me on levaquin. Mind you that levaquin should not be used by a young adult, such as myself. I was put on a heavy dosage for a little over a month and suddenly began getting odd symptoms such as a knee swelling to to the size of a melon.
Avatar f tn I do not have a lyme dx but I am working with my neurologist on it...I am also looking for an LLMD in my area. I am sure that I will have no trouble finding one near Philadelphia. I have a question about antibiotics. Since 2001, I have what I thought was an allergy to Cipro. Took it for an upper respitory infection for 3 days and had terrible problems. The Dr then gave me Levaquin, took for 7 days, with the same side effects.
Avatar m tn Do not take Levaquin for a sore throat. The drug is a class called fluoroquinalones, and the side effects may include anything from aches and pains for months to tendon rupture. If a fluoroquinalone is prescribed Cipro has far fewer side effects.
Avatar m tn I could see that you have been a bit over dosed with Levaquin 500 mg ,taking 4-6 tabs per day and for three days. For an infection like strep throat its better to start with drugs like Cephalosporins or pencillins and azithromycin or Co trimox. As drug like Levaquin has more fatal side effects I think its better you switch off to other broad spectrum antibiotics like said above.Stop using Levaquin now.Its not that long that you have severe adverse effects,so better change the prescription.
Avatar n tn He perscribed Levaquin for a week and I felt fine after that. I ended up traveling to Ecuador and became ill with some sort of food poisoning during the last 2 or 3 days of my antibiotics cycle. The food poisoning passed I thought and I had sex with my girlfriend. During orgasm I experienced a more intense border line painful ejaculation but felt fine after that. I had sex several more times for 3 or 4 more days and then another bout of diarreha but no nausea.
Avatar n tn My husband was diagnosed with Bacterial Pneumonia and was prescribed Levaquin. He has been off the medication for about a week and a half and he is still experiencing phobic attacks in the morning. He wakes up in a panic and believes that he cannot breath. While he was taking the drug he experienced major confusion, anxiety, depression and dizziness. It was awful! He even experienced a very bad episode when he became abusive...and delusional.
Avatar n tn Thank you. His fasting sugars have been borderline above upper limits. Family history is reassuring but we will continue diet and exercise. We thought about the lower cord/cauda equina too. But no other dermatomal affectations nor pain or sensory radiations down both or either leg. The bilateral toe numbness began about a week into the Levaquin. His prostatitis symptoms are much improved so we'll discuss with his doc about dose reduction vs discontinuation.
4939681 tn?1361299299 Discussion of doxycycline, a more economically reasonable, generic drug with anticipated equal efficacy for postexposure prophylaxis compared with ciprofloxacin, as a treatment option was relegated to government Web sites and belated press releases.
Avatar m tn Is it common in final stages of congestive heart failure for the patient to not be able to digest food? My father is fed liquid food through a feeding tube, and it seems to me he is not digesting it. He coughs up material that looks like a hardened form of the liquid food, and there is a foul smell coming from his mouth and the tube area. I wonder if the food is just rotting in his gut undigested.
Avatar m tn s more of an educated guess, which got me into this mess originally with a different doc and Levaquin). Currently I am prescribed meds that cost almost $2000 for a month supply, which I may be on for six months or more. It's ruining me financially and having just finished my first month's supply of meds the symptoms are not getting any better. I hope no one else has to go through this.
Avatar n tn t take Levaquin, as I had server heart palpitations. I would not take any more Levaquin, until you talk with your doctor. This sounds like a bad reaction to Levaquin. There are other medications to take but you will have to talk with your doctor about it.
Avatar m tn Was told I probably had no std and the Flagyl would kill potential NGU / Clamydia if present and Levaquin would take care of Gonorrhea. Other risks he said were not valid with no apparent viral sores on mouth of partner. Took the Flagyl and 4 days of Levaquin and resumed contact with normal monogomous partner. Partner later developed what GYN called a bladder infection with horrible back pains and frequent urination / urgency. She rcvd, Nitrofuran mono 100mg and took several days...
168348 tn?1379357075 mine was on its way to kidneys so had to do big gun antibiotic this time (boohoo) I took my Synthroid this AM and will let the post know out of curiosity if it interacts with the Levaquin today .............................could have been chills from GB not working right still, too ............................grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr this is the *pesky* stuff we can do wtihout right!!!!!
