Avatar n tn I've been taking 500mg. of Levaquin for 4 days for a uti. Nasty side effects. I wanted to know if I can cut the pills in half. Would taking 250mg. be as effective? All the symptoms of my uti are gone. I was supposed to take the pills for 7 days and I stopped after 4 because of side effects.

Avatar m tn The drug is a class called fluoroquinalones, and the side effects may include anything from aches and pains for months to tendon rupture. If a fluoroquinalone is prescribed Cipro has far fewer side effects.
Avatar f tn I've been on Levaquin twice. Ugh!!! I have severe joint pain and fatigue both times. I have a really high pain tolerance and was allergic to my other options at the time, so I toughed out the 10 days both times. I don't recommend that and my doctor has promised to figure out an alternative for future infections. The first time, the serious fatigue and joint pain lasted about 3 weeks total (including the 10 days). The second time it was about 5 weeks.
Avatar n tn Side effects should dissipate after discontinuing/finishing the medication. Did you finish all the tablets? It's very important to take all the pills that are prescribed to you because 1) it will fully get rid of the infection 2) If you dont finish the tablets, the next time you take this med, it will not be as effective .My guess would be that maybe something else is going on that is not in relation to Levaquin or maybe you were allergic to the med??? Call the dr.
Avatar m tn Hi and Welcome t o our Pain Management Forum. Levaquin is an excellant ATB (Antibiotic). However like many medications it comes with some risks and side effects. Form a trusted Web-site: "Levaquin is associated with an increased risk of tendon rupture or swelling of the tendon (tendinitis) in all ages. This risk is higher if you are over 60 years of age, are taking steroids (corticosteroid drugs), or if you have kidney, heart, or lung transplants" .....
Avatar f tn Hello about 3 months ago I was prescribed Levaquin for an upper respirtory infection. Well I did experience the normal side effects listed online but then started getted ringing in my ears. I only had a few days left of the medication and didn't realize the ringing wouldn't go away since the doctor told me it was due to an ear infection. I have been off balance and have had visual problems and anxiety of not feeling right sometimes through the day.

Avatar m tn After discovering greenish discharge in my underwear in the morning, I went to my doctor who prescribed me the usual course of 1 g of Azithromycin and 1 400 mg of Cefixime for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. At first my symptoms lessened but later returned. I waited two weeks before seeing my doctor again who prescribed me the same medication. I did test positive for Chlamydia. Again the symptoms receded but again they returned.
Avatar f tn You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.
Avatar n tn Levaquin has some terrible side effects besides tendon rupture. It was my own fault. I read about the side efects but I had a bad infection and insisted on that specific drug. My problems (muscle pain, tenderness, discomfort) lasted six months after I took the medication, but they did go away. Curiosly Cipro, which is of the same class of drugs, doesn't seem to cause any problems.
Avatar n tn I think I would ask the pharmacist about these reactions, sometimes they are more educated in the long-lasting side-effects in drugs than some doctors. I would also see your GP and discuss this with him/her. 12 months seems a very long time to be getting new symptoms. If after you talk to your GP and pharmacist you still are having this issue, then maybe see a chiropractor, you may have some pinched nerves in the affected areas causing the pain in the areas that are bothering you.
Avatar m tn Both Cipro and Levaquin are drugs of a class known as quinolones. Of the two Cipro has the least side effects. The sore muscles may last for weeks or months or you may feel better in a few days. With that class of drugs there are ocasional reports of permanent tendon damage. This does not mean they should not be used. It is a matter of risk and benefit.
Avatar n tn unless the researchers have discovered something new.I have seen all these side effects in people and warn everyone of the possibility.I just don't see the rationale of blocking GABA during withdrawal, usually one wants to increase GABA in such conditions. But I do learn something new every day and if you find out the use of levaquin blink please let us know cause I am curious.
Avatar f tn I am not a big fan of Levaquin, which has some very serious side effects, however I would also suggest you get an hbcA1c test for diabetes before jumping to conclusions. Alpha lipoic acid supplements are helpful and you might consult your physician about using a medical grade dilute solution of DMSO which is a very powerful anti-oxidant and antiinflammatory. The DMSO treatments are controversial and you might want to review the material on the net before making a decision.
Avatar f tn Levaquin or levofloxacin is usually indicated to fight bacteria in the body. Side effects usually resolve after the medicine has been discontinued. If the symptoms you mentioned persist after stopping the medicine, it is best that you discuss this with your doctor for proper evaluation. Factors such as your medical condition, medical history, symptoms present and over-all health are important considerations. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Yes, I will NEVER take any levaquin or any others in that family. Had terrible side effects, had to go to ER. I think these are very powerful antibiotics... should be used only as last resort. Good luck to all!
Avatar n tn Good to see his symptoms improving. It could a side effect of levaquin, as this can cause swelling and pain in the joints, this is more so if he is prone for joint/tendon problems such as tendonitis and bursitis. It should resolve once the medication is stopped. Discuss these symptoms with your consulting doctor he may change the dose or the medication. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
168348 tn?1379357075 All of the side affects are due to the Levaquin. I would have to have a gun pointed to my head before I took levaquin, and even then I might still refuse. Levaquin is a very "punishing" medication. Levaquin has it's mplace in the physicians armamentarium. For example, if I had bubonic plaque, I might consider levaquin. But they have an EXCELLENT drug marketing program. The symptoms will eventually disappear. Don't change your synthroid dose.
