I would never take Levaquin. The side-effects are well documented. They often last for months and are sometimes permanently debilitating. Levaquin is a fluoroqinalone, and Cipro will do the same thing without many of the problems, even though they are quite similar from a chemical standpoint.

For an infection like strep throat its better to start with drugs like Cephalosporins or pencillins and azithromycin or Co trimox.As drug like Levaquin has more fatal side effects I think its better you switch off to other broad spectrum antibiotics like said above.Stop using Levaquin now.Its not that long that you have severe adverse effects,so better change the prescription.Use salt water gargles to relieve symptoms of Strep throat.Get a better medication like Cepahlosporins.

You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin. Most times this wears off (the good news), but there are instances of long-term damage from this particular antibiotic (that's the bad news). Statistics are on your side.

and next day had shortness of breath......back to er got prednisone,and levaquin...went to work and ppl are freaking that rather I'm sunburned or Bp was high.....turned out Bp was high 152/102 ...was red and flushed only on head neck and face.....nowhere else......was told prednisone side effect....but being riddled with panic disorder I checked latuda site......rare but deadly side effect called nms...neuropaletic malignant syndrome.....symptoms are.

The drug is a class called fluoroquinalones, and the side effects may include anything from aches and pains for months to tendon rupture. If a fluoroquinalone is prescribed Cipro has far fewer side effects.

I was told that some people are particularly likely to experience these side effects on Levaquin and that we tend to get hid pretty hard with them. Tell your doctor about every symptom and enlist his/her help in treating them (symptomatically or at the source) and in remembering to prescribe a different drug if there is a next infection. Side effects should dissipate after discontinuing/finishing the medication. Did you finish all the tablets? It's very important to take all the pills that are prescribed to you because 1) it will fully get rid of the infection 2) If you dont finish the tablets, the next time you take this med, it will not be as effective .My guess would be that maybe something else is going on that is not in relation to Levaquin or maybe you were allergic to the med??? Call the dr.

Tinnitus and the being off balance are two different symptoms. One is not causing the other. Have you read the side effects from Levaquin? There are quite alot, and I believe this drug has been "black boxed" in the USA. However, I am not so sure this caused your problems or your problems are unrelated to the Levaquin.

After discovering greenish discharge in my underwear in the morning, I went to my doctor who prescribed me the usual course of 1 g of Azithromycin and 1 400 mg of Cefixime for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. At first my symptoms lessened but later returned. I waited two weeks before seeing my doctor again who prescribed me the same medication. I did test positive for Chlamydia. Again the symptoms receded but again they returned.

I believe you can continue to take your Ativan as it is in a different class of drugs from your other meds. BUT.................I am NOT a doctor nor a pharmacist and I will tell you right now that you MUST check this out with someome with real knowledge of the interactions of medications. And that is NOT me! Zoloft, an antidepressant, normally reaches steady state in about a week and in my humble opinion, you should not still be feeling "really anxious and nervous.

I've been taking 500mg. of Levaquin for 4 days for a uti. Nasty side effects. I wanted to know if I can cut the pills in half. Would taking 250mg. be as effective? All the symptoms of my uti are gone. I was supposed to take the pills for 7 days and I stopped after 4 because of side effects.

Now with episodic painful stabbing sensation in soft tissue rt foot. Concerned about short and long term effects or late effects since I have MS and do not have mobility issues until now.

Could anyone share any side effects they had and the herxing feel with these? The Dr said they can be tough on some people that was it nauseating , headaches, absolutely no alcohol ect. And what did you do to help cope with any side effects? It would help me to know what might possibly be around the corner for me so I can work thru it. I have to work regardless of how I feel (not an option), so your info will help me prepare getting thru the work day.

Both Cipro and Levaquin are drugs of a class known as quinolones. Of the two Cipro has the least side effects. The sore muscles may last for weeks or months or you may feel better in a few days. With that class of drugs there are ocasional reports of permanent tendon damage. This does not mean they should not be used. It is a matter of risk and benefit.

1 month later, I went to my podiatrist. I had an MRI and it confirmed 2 tears in the tendon as a reaction to Levaquin. Had surgery in May 2017. In a cast for 3 months, then 12 weeks of PT. Today, still swollen, but was told it will last about a year. Now, 12 months after my doses of Levaquin, same Achilles tendon symptoms but now in my right ankle. And possibly feeling it in my right shoulder and right hip (but not sure if this is part of the Levaquin). This is awful!

Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.

unless the researchers have discovered something new.I have seen all these side effects in people and warn everyone of the possibility.I just don't see the rationale of blocking GABA during withdrawal,usually one wants to increase GABA in such conditions.But I do learn something new every day and if you find out the use of levaquin blink please let us know cause I am curious.

I am not a big fan of Levaquin, which has some very serious side effects, however I would also suggest you get an hbcA1c test for diabetes before jumping to conclusions. Alpha lipoic acid supplements are helpful and you might consult your physician about using a medical grade dilute solution of DMSO which is a very powerful anti-oxidant and antiinflammatory. The DMSO treatments are controversial and you might want to review the material on the net before making a decision.

Yes, I will NEVER take any levaquin or any others in that family. Had terrible side effects, had to go to ER. I think these are very powerful antibiotics... should be used only as last resort. Good luck to all!

Good to see his symptoms improving. It could a side effect of levaquin, as this can cause swelling and pain in the joints, this is more so if he is prone for joint/tendon problems such as tendonitis and bursitis. It should resolve once the medication is stopped. Discuss these symptoms with your consulting doctor he may change the dose or the medication. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Just wondering bcz I am on the Levaquin 500mgs 1X day for 7 days for a pretty bad urinary tract infection / small stone that passed (kidney) and along with normal side effects like gas, and feeling some tired/dizzy which I usually get from Levaquin I keep getting chills and more tired than normal but it comes and goes and yet my clinical symptoms for the UTI/stone passing are cleared up I do not think the chills are related to the medical problem and really wondering if after 5 days my TSH is

Try to avoid Cipro or Levaquin if you can. The side effects can be horrible including orthopedic problems you do not want to have, so tell them you throw up when you take them if they try to give you Cipro/ciprofloxacin or Levaquin.
