Levaquin for prostatitis

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin for prostatitis

levaquin

Avatar m tn Levaquin isn't used in 90% of the country (if you mean the US) for gonorrhea, but it is used frequently for prostatitis. And no, gonorrhea wouldn't show up on a pap smear. It would, however, show up on an std test that the doc might have done along with the pap. You have a clear diagnosis of an infection in your prostate. I would go with that.
Avatar m tn The doctor said it probally Prostatitis, so they put me on smz-tmp antibiotic for couple weeks. During this time pain got worse, into my testicles and burning in my penis. The doctor put me on cipro antibiotic for couple weeks no change. I then was sent to a urologist were he also did a prostate exam. He also said it probally prostatitis he put me on 2 more weeks of cipro no change.
Avatar n tn No change in bowel or bladder except he recently has been on levaquin for second episode of prostatitis (first episode 20 years ago). Any ideas about what is going on? thanks so much.
Avatar m tn at the same time I was still on the Levaquin...that I feel is important because we were on the Levaquin at the same time for a week. If We had any GC or NGU...that should have been cured concurrently right? From that point she got better with exception of 2 yeast infections which she insists are normal and she does have frequently... and I did not...which leads me to the prostatitis again. But the timing of the prostatitis really has be snagged. On a side note...
Avatar n tn I appreciate your prompt response. I will get a urine test right away. Will the levaquin for my prosititis affect my urine test results?
Avatar n tn 35 yr old male. with a history of UTI's, approx 2/yr. Symptoms were slight sensitivity in lower abdomen but no burning during urination - I know the feeling so went to the doc very early. Urine test at doc's was negative. Prescribed Levaquin 250mg 1/day for 14 days. On my last incidence, approx. 6 months ago, went to doc with same symptoms, based on physical exam doc confirmed prostatitis (slight enlarged and "squishy"), prescribed antibiotics.
Avatar n tn Is there a chance that the initial treatments for my girlfriend and I did not clear up the infection completely? Is Levaquin a treatment for these and would the extended course have cleared these up? I do not have the classic symptoms of either of these maladies but my urinary tract does not feel 100% right. I appreciate any help you can give.
Avatar n tn Went to see a doctor, who confirmed prostatitis--not BPH--with digital probing, and gave me azithromycin, then levaquin, ten day courses of each. Neither had any noticeable effect beyond making me constipated. I did online research and found out that most prostatitis is not bacterial, a possibility the doc (who was elderly) did not even appear to consider.
Avatar m tn At that time I was given a shot and antibiotics for Chlamydia and Gonorhea as a precautionary matter. I did not show any signs of an STD. Since then I have developed Prostatitis. In the past I have had Epidimitis, so I wasn't really concerned about the Prosatitis. I went to my Primary Care Physician to get this diagnosed and he put me on a 2 week dose of Levaquin. He took a urine sample at that time, but was not looking for STD's specifically.
Avatar n tn I DID NOT see the Dr but rather a PA. He told me I had chronic non-baterial prostatitis and gave me a 10 day cycle of levaquin, saying that it should help the inflammation but that it’s not bacterial. The diagnosis of “chronic” from what I have read come only after 6 months or more of symptoms, which is not the case for me. I’m 7 days in and done a lot of research on this disease that no one has answers for or agreement on.
Avatar n tn I am only 27years and old and have been on Levaquin for two weeks now without much change. The external urethral meatus is also slightly discolored. Its more of a vibrant pink color but obviously different from the rest of my glans penis. I also notice that the tip is always kind of wet and sometimes stuck together. I believe this is from a slight clear discharge. I have had two urine tests, both which came back negative.
Should I have a follow up STI screening? I appreciate any help you can give.
Avatar m tn I mostly trust her). I was given Levaquin 500mg for a month by my doctor... also saw the urologist 2 weeks later. Both doctors said they don't think it is a STD... but not for sure. I was also given paxil and xanex for anxiety. My girlfriend and I did not have sex for a couple weeks and started again about a week ago. I was still on the antibiotic but am now off it. I recently started to have the symptoms again the day before I quit taking the levaquin...
Avatar n tn I have diagnosis of chronic prostatitis. The symptoms, which are mild and include painful erection, ejaculation and tenderness in the prostate and penus, started in late December 2007. I began treatment in early January. My primary care physician put me on doxycycline (twice a day) until late February 2008. Because my condition did not improve, I was referred to a urologist. The urologist put me on bactrim (twice a day) until late May 2008.
Avatar n tn Drugs other than Levaquin, prescribed for the treatment of prostatitis, include Bactrim, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, carbenicillin, nitrofurantoin, and tetracyclines like doxycycline. You may not be able to take ciprofloxacin as it is of the same group as Levaquin and may cause an allergic reaction as well. You will need to discuss the option of treatment with these antibiotics with your urologist. The course of treatment may last for 6-8 weeks or longer depending on the infective organism.
Avatar n tn I got diagnosed with prostatitis. They gave me Levaquin and it went away. It came back 5 months later and I got the same treatment. Well in the past month or so I visited 2 CSW. I use a condom with both and only one gave me unprotected oral. I started getting lower back pain again, and in my perineum and testicle discomfort. After I pee I feel burning, but there is no discharge and even my thighs hurt. It even hurts in my lower stomach.
Avatar n tn I had the same thing happen to me and he gave me levaquin for it.
Avatar n tn Cipro for 2 weeks still in pain. Then switched to Levaquin for 10 days. While still on the cipro I began to feel mild muscle aches. After 4 days of Levaquin my muscle aches and joint pain increased. I stopped the pill doc's orders 2 weeks later on no antibiotics.
Avatar m tn levaquin 750mg for 10 days is what finally cured my prostatitis
Avatar m tn that particular antibiotic is generally prescribed for prostatitis. it's also the cheapest. there are others that are given in once a day dosing called levaquin. did your doctor do a PSA blood test? this is a test to determine if the prostate is overactive and will help rule out other problems. this test was helpful for me because it help my doctor diagnose my prostate cancer before it spreaded. not intended to alarm you!
Avatar n tn Because of my history with prostatitis the doc gave me 5 pills/1 a day for Levaquin. I still have the discomfort regardless. When I masterbate my lower back hurts and my left testicle. I know you said this is not a symptom of an STD. For every vaginal sexual encounter I have ever had in the past 6 years I have always used a condom. What are my chances of contracting HIV? I doubt I had an STD, but if for some reason I did, would the Levaquin have taken care of it?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with acute bacterial prostatitis (confirmed by a semen culture) recently. I did about 5 weeks of levaquin and most of the symptoms went away. The only problem that seems to linger is this strange sunburn-like feeling in my inner thighs. It's just always warm and irritating down there. It's not painful. It's just noticeable enough to prevent me from forgetting about this whole awful affair. Has anyone experienced this? Did it ever go away?
Avatar n tn I eventually (June 2008) go to a urologist who tells me i have Chronic Prostatitis TYPE II and III...............He prescribed me Levaquin and Flomax but i had a bad reaction to Levaquin after just 5-7 days on it (Rash on one shoulder and weak knees).....After coming off the Levaquin my Prostate seemed to be more sensative and more inflamed. I experienced pain in my underarm Lympnodes and an increase in stomach gas...
Avatar n tn my symptoms have not improved and are pretty much debiilitating. the doctor i saw today gave me levaquin for 20 days, will this help? This discussion is related to Epididymitis, Chronic Prostatitis, or other?.
Avatar n tn It did not work and I took ceftriaxone and azithromycin which appeared to get rid of the GC, but I still had lingering symptoms (prostatitis) I returned to the US and I was tested negative for G/C. My doc put me on Cipro for 2 weeks for prostatitis and urged me to wait and see, so I will give it a try. I will let you know how it goes.
Avatar n tn i was then sent to a urologist and everything came back normal beside a large hydrocele. i was prescribed levaquin for 14 days, that seemed to work. now the second part of the question. 2.) i'm not sure of the cause but was diagnosed with NGU - chlamydia and gonnoreah were negative. i felt like these symptoms came on after about 3 days after an encounter with a woman without a condom, i was treated with doxy and cipro.
Avatar m tn He said that he was concerned about prostatitis, and he gave me a script for Levaquin (750mg for 3 days, then 500mg for the next 7 days). At my insistence he also did a BiostatHSV-2 test, which was negative. The question is whether I continue with this course. Levaquin scares me to death, and I am definitely feeling mentally spacey after just the first pill. I realize that there could be other causes of urethritis, like adenovirus. So I kind of feel like the Levaquin is premature.
