Avatar m tn The ENT may put you on systemic corticosteroids for few days and topical (nasal spray) corticosteroids for a few months for this.
Avatar f tn Seemed like it got better, but about a week or two later after I finished the antibiotics I got sick again and got another (this time over the phone) prescription for more Levaquin. Then I got double sick again WHILE STILL ON the Levaquin. This meant another expensive doctor's appointment, confirmation that my lymph nodes are swollen, and more pus found in my nose. Now I have just finished a round of oral steroids, am on more nasal steroids, and am on Biaxin for 14 days.
Avatar n tn I have allergic asthma, and have had it for 33 years. Chronic infection, especially sinusitis, seems to play a big role. I've had two ENTs check me out - no fungus or polyps or anything like that. I've been on immunotherapy most of my life. I take all the current meds and just started Xolair. I get several infections a year. I've tried Levaquin for as much as a month at a time. Any suggestions as to where to go next? Other tests to run or things to check out? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Your symptoms sound like chronic sinusitis. I have had this problem too BIG Time, and I beat it, Completely. The good news is "Yes there is a magic bullet". The bad news is that it's "Not fast and easy". Except to help diagnose your problem, ENT's are useless. There is no magic pill or antibiotic. Levaquin is the most powerful, but wont keep your infection from recurring, and Surgery is a complete waste of time and money. I have experience with both.
Avatar f tn Good luck with the antibiotics for your sinusitis and pneumonia. I'm sorry you're sick. What did your doc prescribe? Sorry you need tubes, how long has it been since your symptoms started?

Off to ENT continued clindamycin 20 days still had green drainage. Got CT scan.
Avatar n tn I also asked the doctor since i work with the public, to check me for TB, but he said my longs sound fine. I also asked him if I had Chronic Bronchities. So far my quest has been fruitless. The drainage almost went away, but not really and this morning is back with a vengance. I took nasarel and i'm fine right now. tomorrow will be another day. My problem seems to be at its peak in the morning. Can any doctors or nurses offer some suggestions?
Avatar f tn I had a sleep study done and waiting for results. I have had Levaquin 500 mg for 20 days. Then Levaquin 750 mg for 10 days. I still have fever and sinus headaches. The doctor also started me on Mucinex. I do not think it is doing anything at all. My fever varies from 99.9 to 100.5. I am always tired. I don't feel I am getting any answers and I don't want to feel like this anymore.
Avatar n tn Hello everyone, I have been suffering from the problems mentioned above for the past four or five years. Symptoms include chronic blocked ears (comes and goes in intensity but is always present), a crunching noise when I move my jaw around sometimes, some ringing of the ears especially when trying to sleep.
Avatar n tn I'm very tired and worn out. I made an appointment with an infectious disease specialist for next week. Any other suggestions? Also, should I being taking certain vitamins to counteract the impact of all the antibiotics and steroids and to help regain my energy? By the way, I've never smoked.
242516 tn?1368227505 org/cgi/content/abstract/134/6/479 When do I need antibiotics for sinusitis, as an adult? Doc! My face hurts on one side and colored mucous is coming out! These are common complaints from adult patients who think they have acute bacterial sinusitis. What people don't know is that it's not common before 7 days of illness, and it's usually best to hold off on antibiotics until symptoms have stuck around for more than a week.
1330489 tn?1275245504 Hello, I am searching for help on a headache I have had for 8 months. I don't know what to do, and my ENT doesn't seem to know what either. The headache began in November 2009. I went to an ENT because I had a deviated septum which was operated on in 2004, but I thought I never really got much airflow, and I wanted to see if there was more we could do.
Avatar n tn 15 days of broad spectrum antibiotics is often helpful for acute sinusitis, but for chronic sinusitis sometimes more than 3 weeks of antibiotics is necessary. Nasal saline rinse and nasal steroids are important in helping sinusitis as well.
Avatar f tn They gave me toradol for the headache which helped minimal, and when I got home I took Lortab which helped more. Now my right eyelid is swollen. I have history of chronic sinusitis and had surgery a few years ago for it, was on prednisone, levaquin and avelox in nov/dec and ct scan showed some blockage, but surgeon said he could do surgery but I wasn't sure.

Avatar n tn This is crazy, I have the same problem and its driving me insane....Please tell me what any of you have discovered. I am between jobs, never get sick....really never use my insurance I've been paying for the last 20 years and now of course I could really use it. HELP!
Avatar f tn It's an advanced nasal rinse that actually reaches all of your sinuses, not just part of them, and it cured a 5 year chronic infection and 10 subsequent acute sinusitis bouts. It's mildly risky, because you have to bend over in a shower, but uncurable sinusitis is even more risky. Put your cursor on the blue friggy and go to my Journal for instructions. They seem complicated, but it's worth the effort. If you try it, stay on the levaquin, it'll work better after a few flushes.
Avatar n tn You did not say what the head x-ray revealed, however, if you have chronic sinusitis, you ought to try and find the cause. My son had chronic sinusitis and our regular doctors kept treating him with antibiotics. About the time they referred him to a specialist, I had tracked down a doctor Norton Fishman (M.D.)who practices complimentary medicine, now located in Bethesda, Maryland. Although the ear, nose, throat specialist's (Dr.
Avatar f tn I have chronic sinusitis, had surgery x1 about 5 years ago and am currently having horrible migraine (Was in ER over weekend uncontrolled vomiting and migraine) I will see neurologist friday he mentioned maybe topamax but will discuss when i come in. I also have chiari malformation 3 mm. My current ent who did the first surgery isn't thinking i need another surgery based on the cd he read of my ct scan, but he said the radiologist said he saw more blockage. So what does that mean?
Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, your symptoms are suggestive of chronic sinusitis. Sinusitis is caused by too much mucus, or a swelling of the lining of the sinuses and nose, which can block the narrow channels. The causes of these are bacterial infection like streptococcal, staphylococcal, Tuberculosis, Bronchiectasis and Fungal infections. This can be associated with postnasal drip and throat clearing. This can in turn irritate the throat lining.
Avatar m tn For the 12 months in between UTI 1 and 2, I have consistently experienced recurrent fatigue, quick exhaustion after exertion, malaise, blotchy skin, chronic sinusitis (persistent burning in nose and nasal mucous always streaked with blood) skin pain (hypersensitivity), back pain in the lumbar region (arthritis in lumbar region diagnosed by MRI), pain on either side of my spine, sore groin and armpits, muscle twitches, muscles easily cramped and fatigued.
Avatar n tn sicker patients, who had a positive CRP and needed longer antibiotic regimens like the 3 weeks of antibiotics you were prescribed. This is a common way to treat chronic sinusitis You should see your doctor immediately about the lip swelling. That could be an allergy to the ceftin.
Avatar n tn My son is 22 and has chronic sinusitis and has had 3 surgeries - I know how awful it is!! I would post your commnet on the EXPERT forum on this website and maybe get a 2nd ENT opinion. Ask if your problems could be fungal in nature. We just returned from the Mayo clinic and they emphasized using nasal saline rinses - check with your doctor and admitted that once the sinuses get inflamed like this, it can take awhile to clear up. My heart goes out to you - hang in there!!
Avatar n tn I was wondering where the best place for me would be to find a complete list of medicines I should stay away from with Long QT syndrome. I have a list but it is over 5 years old, and I am in need of a new one! Thank You!
Avatar n tn I finally went and saw my GP on 5/03 *because I got so tired of it, I thought it'd eventually go away*, who did a CT Scan, which showed sinusitis. They gave me biaxin for 2 wks, which didnt help. I saw an ENT who Id seen back in 1997 & she gave me levaquin for 3 weeks, with no improvement. I got a referral to another ENT, & he gave me augmentin for 4 weeks, guafenicen, & also presdidone to take for 4 days. No improvement.
Avatar f tn (I am diabetic type II insulin dependent along with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver due to fatty liver, chronic pancreatitis (even after having an ERCP), bipolar, hypothyroid disease, and insomnia) My internist gave me a prescription for Levaquin 500mg 1x/day for 10 days. It has been 1 week since I started this round of antibiotics and I still have mucous coming from my right nostril, pain etc.
Avatar m tn THE USUAL TREATMENTS FOR CHRONIC SINUSITIS The treatment for chronic sinusitis is similar to that for acute sinusitis, at first. Doctors may prescribe antibiotics for 10 to 12 days, and if that doesn’t work, as it rarely does, they may prescribe a different antibiotic for anywhere to 4 to 6 weeks, which is often effective. Sometimes it takes months and even a year of antibiotics to effect a cure.
Avatar n tn I had an upper respitory infection several weeks ago and ended up in Urgent Care. I was prescribed Levaquin 750mg for 5 days. During that week I had my 24 wk PCR. I asked the same question you did. Would antibotics effect my treatment. The answer is no. You will be fine and the effectiveness of your Peg will not be compromised. Hope you feel better soon. BTW, 24 wks PCR was UND.
