Levaquin and heart palpitations

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin and heart palpitations

levaquin

Avatar n tn I can't take Levaquin, as I had server heart palpitations. I would not take any more Levaquin, until you talk with your doctor. This sounds like a bad reaction to Levaquin. There are other medications to take but you will have to talk with your doctor about it.
Avatar n tn I had horrible heart pounding, swollen knees and it felt as if someone had beaten the crap out of me with a baseball bat...2 days after stopping it, the swelling went down and the heart palpitations stopped, but it took weeks for the aching to stop...if your side effects were as severe as mine, you should always tell your health care providers that you had a reaction to Levaquin...it is a scary antibiotic and i know i will never take it again...hope you are all better...God bless!
Avatar f tn Hi. I have been experiencing some really disturbing set of symptoms. I was a healthy and happy 22 year old and now feel almost crippled. I have peripheral neurpathy, horrible anxiety, deppression, nausea, weight loss. I took Levaquin for a UTI infection in November 2009 and didn't have symptoms then. I also had a susequent yeast infection. Do anybody have any idea what could be causing thIs? Thank you and God Bless.
Avatar f tn Tachycardia, shortness of breath, hypertension, palpitations and chest pain. The most common ones are: Avelox (moxifloxacin) Cipro (ciprofloxacin), Factive (gemifloxacin), Floxin (ofloxacin), Levaquin (levofloxacin), Noroxin (norfloxacin), and Tequin (gatifloxacin). If you have taken any of these drugs, do you remember if you took them before or after you developed cardiac symptoms. I am wondering if my cardiac symptoms are due to taking Avelox for a sinus infection.
Avatar f tn 24 hr tape showed no abnormality, some supraventricular ectopics(which i never felt), but was told thats normal. I have had palpitations on and off for years, but usually only related to stress/hormonal times in month, alcohol. They were a bit more frequent towards end of last year, hence the ECG. Anyway, cardiologist has seen results, and ruled out any serious causes of short pr interval(I was terrifeid it was WPW at first, but he sees no sign of that).
Avatar f tn I was prescribed leviquin for bronchitis and sinus infection after a prior antibiotic didn't work. I was also put on a steroid (dextremethisone) something like that. It was a 10 day treatment. The first couple doses made my heart feel like it was coming out of my chest, that passed.
Avatar f tn I just finished a 5 day z pack that was prescribed for a sinus infection that was giving me severe headaches. My heart started to feel funny and I looked at the insert which said could cause irregular hearbeats. I've taken this medication in the past with no issue. I do not have any cardiac disease but I do smoke, should I just wait for about 5 days to see if once the meds are out of my system I'm ok, or should I go see a doctor or go to the ER?
Avatar m tn holter monitor shows nothing, heart looks good. Only way to sometimes try and ease it is to lie down. Once I stand it starts pounding.. I am totally disabled by this. I cant walk more than a few feet. It is the most horrible feeling.. I am wondering if it Is related to the sensory neuropathy as sometimes it alters with the pins and needles all over. I have seen so many doctors, no one can help me.. I am just hanging on as I can not live in this agony.

Avatar m tn The older i got, the less amount of basketball I played, going to school and working and then married. At the same time, this heart palpitation issue became more frequent and I started to become nervous and was afraid of playing basketball, so i basically stopped. I'm now really out of shape. 6'1 and 250 pounds whereas when i played as a teenager, I was about 185.
Avatar f tn Hi. I also have had heart palpitations. I talked with the doctor and she said probably is nothing, but they are going to check the thyroid hormonea..they can increase during pregnancy and cause palpitations, but i even if it is the case she said not to worry, it is nothing complicated, maybe some supplements to get them under control. Ask your doctor, but don't worry. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Recently I saw my MD and she ordered several blood tests and MRI to look for MS and other peripheral neuropathy causes. All blood tests and the MRI were normal. I think that I have had a severe drug reaction and do you think the shooting pain is Levaquin related? I took Ibuprofen for the tendon pain for 2 years starting the day after I finished the Levaquin 3 years ago. Did this increase the nerve damage? I have no balance or muscular strength problems.
Avatar m tn My son is 18 and started having heart palpitations and chills tonight. He also has a headache. He can't relax because this is bothering him so much. He does have a doctors appt tomorrow at 11:15am. Any suggestions to calm the palpitations?
Avatar m tn Hi and Welcome t o our Pain Management Forum. Levaquin is an excellant ATB (Antibiotic). However like many medications it comes with some risks and side effects. Form a trusted Web-site: "Levaquin is associated with an increased risk of tendon rupture or swelling of the tendon (tendinitis) in all ages. This risk is higher if you are over 60 years of age, are taking steroids (corticosteroid drugs), or if you have kidney, heart, or lung transplants" .....
Avatar n tn I get heart palpitations from time to time with no concern and have been to the doctors within the past yr and have had my heart listened to. However last night i was talking my dogs for a walk up this steep hill and stopped because i got a heart palpitation, but also had this quick sharp pain in my heart, the pain only lasted for a second or two and the palpitations ended soon after. I felt fine afterwards but had much anxiety about the pain.
Avatar n tn This is very concerning to me now because this is symptomatic of heart att. He cant afford to go to the er and is hoping that the pain would go away but im scared and feel helpless cause he is so stubborn. He doesnt smoke cigarettes, only medical marijuana through a vaporizer but he has definitely been under alot of stress. He does not have high blood pressure or cholesterol.
Avatar f tn I have been having heart palpitations for about a year now and I'm 24 years old. I usually get the palpitations before and during my period and when I'm in stressful times. I am worried that in the future when I get pregnant this will affect me.
Avatar f tn Went back after 2 weeks and the dr said the bladder infection was gone, but I had to keep on with the Levaquin as I was showing signs of pneumonia and he took another blood test. On the 3rd week of Levaquin, the dr called and said I was highly allergic to Levaquin and get to his office immediately. He gave me a new antibiotic shot and within an hour I was very ill. The next morning I woke up with a fever, unable to breathe and move my left side.
Avatar n tn my doctor ordered blood work and chest x-ray and given Levaquin 500 mg 1 day for 7 days then in 3 weeks another chest xray. Thank you for your reply. I appreciate you.
Avatar f tn Our adrenal system is closely related to our hormones, so if your adrenals are having issues, it will effect hormones and could in turn cause heart palpitations. Also, if progesterone is off, that could cause it. Additionally, low Magnesium, low Vitamin D, low B12, - all an cause heart palpitations. Get a full panel done and see. Maybe it will be something as simple as a vitamin deficiency. Hope this helps... God Bless.
Avatar n tn I DID stop the levaquin after 9 days (approx 4 days after the burning started). An ekg and labwork were also normal. Though the neurologist has ruled out TIA/CVA, MS, ALS and tumor, I am still concerned about MS or ALS. My left leg has also felt "strange" but my strength seems to be intact. I have heard that levaquin CAN cause peripheral neuropathy and that it is often irreversible. I would actually prefer this all to be anxiety, but really just want an answer.
Avatar f tn thank you for advice i do have stress but even when im relaxed watching tv i get this tingling all over my body its not always the same time as the flushing and palpitations i have been in hospital a few times on a drip to slow my heart rate down from 230 beats my heart dr is starting me on a new tablet next week and says i might have to have an operation its really scary i feel for everyone on here and wish everyone well take care.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed prednisone, Symbicort, and also wants to give me Levaquin. I am over 55 years old, and I also have pre-diabetes (6.0 A1C - and am on metformin), and high blood pressure being successfully treated via Benicar. Two nurse friends of mine are literally screaming at me to not take the Levaquin due to achilles muscle rupture tendencies (one is suffering personally from it at this time and has been for more than one year now).
Avatar n tn About a month later I started having A LOT of heart palpitations. I went to the ER and they did an EKG that came back normal and the doc said my heart seemed fine. He did indicate that he could see my palpitations on the heart monitor. My blood pressure was 100/65 and my pulse was 65. He tested my TSH and it was at 25. He told me to drop my synthroid down to 50 mcg until I saw my doc because he thought the medication may be the cause of my palpitations.
