Avatar f tn For starters, I'd see your doctor and let them know you are having exercise induced asthma problems. May I ask what controller asthma meds are? (Inhaler & pills, aside from albuterol or levalbuterol.) Prednisone should be a last resort anymore. Leukotriene inhibitors such as montelukast (Singulair), and Advair (diskus or HFA inhaler) are better choices for controller medications. There's other options, too, I'm just mentioning the two I use.
Avatar f tn ) challenge is the standard and definitive test for asthma. You are give puffs a methylcoline to try to induce an asthma attack. If you have one, you have asthma and are given albuterol to recover. If you don't have an attack, you look at other potential causes. Not everyone sympotoms are the same. Broncho-constriction is a symptom of asthma. It sounds like you may have exercise induced asthma. Another posibility is a reactive airway disease.
3086858 tn?1340852861 About 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with asthma. At the time of my tachycardia diagnosis I was also given a diagnosis of a protein s functional disorder (I believe it was called), blood clotting disorder. I was put on Bystolic 10mg for the tachycardia, which I take daily. I was also put on an aspirin regimen, for the blood clotting. My doctor gave me two breathing treatments due to my severe wheezing at my appt. in which he discovered my asthma.
1398693 tn?1343684738 25 MG/3ML IN NEBU 2X a day before Advair, Singular 10 MG PO TABS, Advair Diskus 500-50 MCG/Dose in AEPB 2X a day, Qvar 80 MCG/ACT IN AERS 2 puffs 2X a day for my severe asthma and I do get relief from the Combivent only to have the chest heaviness come back hours later. So if it were from tight muscles in my chest wouldn’t the Combivent not work because is affecting the lungs and not the muscles?
Avatar m tn I was curious if i could jog or do a tread mill, and when my problems occur even after use of my inhailer before the workout, use my nebulizer machine for a treatment would it eventually get a tollerance? or would it not be a good idea to do that?
1398693 tn?1343684738 Back in February my a long time diagnosis of asthma became severe asthma and I was told at that time I had viral bronchitis since then I have a lot of problems breathing on a nearly daily basis with a day here and there with no symptoms at all, also there’s very little mucus I only cough anything up in the morning every now and then not very often and I don’t wheeze either.
Avatar m tn hey! 1. No, never have been. Never smoked anything, no alcohol and no drugs. (I am 23 years old - male) 2. About 1-3cm to the right of the xiphoid process, there is something popping. When im short of breath, it pops alot (30-40 times per minute). It pops as you'd pop your knuckles.. sometimes loud, sometimes not.. but def, you can feel it as it pops. Sometimes it pops so much my chest feels sore... no doc has yet taken interest to see why... they just said its normal. 3.
Avatar n tn Dr said it would take up to 6 more weeks for it to totally clear up. I am now using my nebulizer twice a day with a mixture of Levalbuterol and Hypertonic saline 7%. Mucus now all white again. Hopefully I can keep my lungs flushed now and prevent more recurrences of pneumonia and pseudonymous. I have already had my heart checked because of shortness of breath just to be sure and my heart is good, no blockage, etc. I appreciate the responses.
Avatar n tn I was wondering where the best place for me would be to find a complete list of medicines I should stay away from with Long QT syndrome. I have a list but it is over 5 years old, and I am in need of a new one! Thank You!
Avatar m tn Asthma attacks are kind of irrational sometimes. When you are a kid and you had an asthma then when you reach the age where your body has gotten rid of that sickness then surely until you grow old Asthma won't be a bother while if that Asthma sickness struck you when you are at the age of 17 and above then say hello to long term medications.
1580703 tn?1651904887 There are more than a few lung diseases that can mimic asthma. This may require your getting a 2nd opinion from a lung specialist. This would be an additional expense but, in the long run, could save you a lot of money and misery.
Avatar m tn Thanks. I have only had asthma for a year or so. However, the person who told me about the bacteria that can cause asthma, or at least make it worse, had it since he was very young. He has successfully treated his asthma. To find out whether it's infection, you can have blood tests for mycoplasma pneumoniae and chlamydia pneumoniae. Unfortunately, a lot of doctors misinterpret the results.
Avatar n tn For almost a year now, I have small amount of thick mucus (not severe but annoying) in the morning most of days. Sometimes, I notice that I have to breath harder (again it is not severe) when I play sports, as it apprears that my lung is not taking oxigen efficiently. It may be coincident, this happened after I had flu shot last year. Is it possible that is the side effect of flu shot?
Avatar n tn I seemed to get a little better after a week, but a few weeks later got worse and went back to the doc to get antibiotics. Stuffy nose is gone, but there's still something going on in my chest. So basically, since I got sick, I have this constant wheeze, which gets tons worse when I sleep. The weird thing is, my peak flow readings are always normal. It almost feels as if there's plegm in my lungs that I just can't cough up.
Avatar f tn Asthma can come up after a virus or bacteria infection. I would listen to the doctor about his treatment or ask about the possibility of doing full pulmonary function tests including a methacholine challenge to confirm the asthma diganosis. I believe coughing after a bad infection can last up to 4 months.
Avatar f tn t till I got a nasty lung infection which caused a severe asthma exacerbation that I finally got different inhaler treatment. Now it is much better. However I have residual affects from that infection, that I"m sure is some lung damage. In children with small airways they are more prone for damage, and that can set them up for small lungs (lower lung function) as adults.
Avatar m tn In the past week I have been woken up from my sleep gasping for air. I take a few breaths and it's better. I also have difficulty taking a deep breath. Is this asthma or something else. I also have chest cavity problems from a viral infection 5 months ago. Thank you!
Avatar n tn If your GP (primary care provider) is having a hard time helping you gain control of your asthma, it is time for a specialist, either an allergist or a pulmonologist. Personally, I prefer an allergist as they are equipped to treat the allergy trigger better than a pulmonologist. Depending on what triggers you identify, there are many life style changes that can be used to reduce your need for medications.
Avatar m tn A few months later, one of the cats started having asthma attacks. We took her to the vet, who diagnosed the asthma and started her on steroids. A few months later, the other cat also started having asthma problems, and also got started on steroids. Over the summer of 2011, I went to Washington for about 3 weeks to do some field work (I am a structural geology grad. student).
7993104 tn?1396090856 I feel almost like I need a nebulizer treatment. I cough for a while and my the late morning I feel better but it is concerning. Is this normal? I would like to point out that while I snore, I didn't go to the doc complaining of any sleep issues. I feel that I sleep better w/o all that stuff on me. However my oximetry test said otherwise...
Avatar f tn My asthma started to act up when I was around 24 weeks it lasted for a little while but then went away. I always have an inhaler on me in case anything happens.
645390 tn?1338555377 Well, now it is Asthma. I had a virus about 2 months ago, and this cough/shortness of breath/chest pressure has stayed with me. I have a history of asthma, but have been "fine" for the last 6 years or so. I have been having lots of trouble breathing, and PCP has had me on now 3 rounds of prednisone, inhalers, etc. No improvement, sent me to a pulmonologist yesterday. I have been also having extreme upper back pain that wraps around me, feels like the MS hug I had in the past.
Avatar f tn night for an asthma attack. The asthma is a new diagnosis. He was in ER in mid Feb. for asthma. I just pray I will find a good sitter to help me out with my son. I think this time I want to find someone who can come to my home, I think my son will feel better about it. I know his being in the hospital has been hard on him and they gave him steroids and that was tough too and that makes personalities different, more moody. Today is a better day for him.
Avatar f tn Hello. I know it's been almost about a year and a half, but I just want to say thank you for posting. I was becoming very desperate for an answer, and I now know I have Allergic Fungal Sinusitus. I had surgery in March 2010 and was on very high doses of Prednisone for a year, which helped tremondously. Although it did help a lot, I hated the side effects. I gained 10 pounds, which doesn't look all too great on my 4'10" frame or help when starting college in a new place.
Avatar f tn it is a good drug for nasal allergies and also, for a fair number of people, effective treatment for asthma. And it is safe, not a cause of significant liver disease, and not associated with other side effects, deemed serious. To the best of our current knowledge, the long term use of a nasal steroid, as directed, does not pose a problem. However, if your symptoms diminish during certain seasons, you may not and should not take the drug during those times.
Avatar f tn if you are very worried about it go to a doctor as they will be able to give you a better answer, and if it is asthma they will be able to help with treatments.
